    Feeling Alone

wow, I am so sorry that you are going through all of that. Support is an extremely valuable thing and I would not like to be feeling like I didn't have any at home. Just know that you can come here and get support whenever you need it! Someone is always here and available to help lift you up and answer questions. Do you have a friend or coworker that you could ask to take you to your appointment? Just remember you are doing this for your health and keep pushing forward. I have faith in you - you can do this!!!!
  2. I am 5 weeks out today and have had no problems. In the hospital I was up and walking right after surgery. I did have some minor gas pains and was tired the first couple of days but that is it as far as surgery effects. No need for pain meds after I left the hospital or anything. I have lost a total of 37 pounds, started at 265 and am at 228 today. I have not had problems with nausea and have had no vomiting. None of the foods I have tried have disagreed with me. I don't need to sip as I can drink a couple ounces at a time no problem. My only true issue has been constipation which I am working on. Pre-surgery though I wasn't exactly "normal" with bowel activities and this way of eating with high protein has exacerbated the issue so I am taking fiber gummies daily and miralax every few days. I am very happy with my recovery and with my surgery!!
  3. So yesterday I am out walking with one of my best friends. She has been having issues lately, stress at work and chronic pain, etc. and but has been even more emotional lately and withdrawn. We were walking and I ask how she's been doing. She said better, then started to cry...??? Turns out she went back to see her therapist the other day to see if she could get some help and figure out what was going on. They were talking and the therapist asked her if there had been a recent trigger that started all this. My friend didn't think so but started listing all the things that had happened recently. Guess what her trigger was..... Me having surgery and losing weight! It seems that previous friends have lost a bunch of weight and changed their behavior and attitudes and she was concerned that would happen to me. I tried to reassure her it wouldn't and I didn't get upset but when I got home I guess I slipped into a bad mindset and started thinking, so she's fine being my friend as long as I am the "fat" friend but if I lose weight and am "skinnier" then what? I am hoping that is not what she meant. Anyone else had to deal with something like this and have suggestions for how to help her along with my weight loss or do I just go on and hope she gets ok with it.
  4. Thank you so much for your insight. I really appreciate the advice and I think you both are right. I do need to make sure that she feels important to me and I don't want to lose our friendship. definitely something to take to heart.
  5. Thanks all. I do hope that we stay strong in our friendship through all this because I really value having her in my life. She said she didn't want me to feel like I had to be her friend??? Had to? Really? I didn't decided to be friends with her because of her weight or mine so I guess I just don't see how my weight changing would impact that but I hear what you guys are saying in that we do change as we migrate to different sized and through different experiences. I just need to remember that this is on her mind and do what I can to make sure that we stay connected.
  6. I have not had any hunger. I am just over 2 weeks and can have my protein shake sitting right in front of me and still forget to drink it because I'm not hungry. But I am tired of liquids at this point. I have had a few soft foods lately but am trying not to go overboard since I don't really get to start soft foods until Monday on my plan. I have heard that some say they have hunger but it can be head hunger or too much acid in the stomach?

    broth post op...

I am 2.5 weeks out and I feel the same way. I can definitely drink more than 1/2 cup at a time (although for some reason I still have trouble remembering to get all my water in), I can take normal drinks, not sips, and don't get any kind of full feeling. I have not tried to push to far cause I don't want to cause issues but I often wonder if he took enough too or if I won't ever feel the restriction. People say that once we move to solid foods then we should feel it so I am hoping that is true.
  9. Hi everyone. I am officially out 1 week from my surgery and I'm doing good. Still working on getting more fluid in. I am still on clear liquid and my dr says not to add protein until day10? anyone else have to do that?
  10. I had surgery on the 16th too. Doing really well. The pains not too bad and walking does help. I haven't had anything to eat but ice chips and can't until after my leak test tomorrow but I am hoping I tolerate food/broth ok. Hope everyone is doing well and healing.
  11. I'm going to agree with the kids. That's quite the spreadsheet you have there. lol
  12. My surgery is Monday, 9/16. Just 3 more days until I am on the sleeved side!!!
  13. You look wonderful. Way to work your sleeve, great job on our loss!!
  14. So glad to hear that those that have already had surgery this month are doing so well. I wish you continued success in your recovery. Just 5 more days until its my turn!!!!!!
  15. Good luck to all of you joining the losers bench tomorrow!! Here's to a speedy recover.
  16. My insurance requires 5 years of documented weight over a BMI of 40 in addition to 3-6 months supervised diet and other clauses if you don't have comorbidities. I have been overweight forever but I don't go to the doctor much and have usually been around a BMI of 38-39 or lower when on one of the many diets I have done. Since I don't have comorbidities I don't want to wait another 4 years for documented weight over 40 BMI or for comorbidities to develop so I am moving ahead on my own.
  17. I think I might have convinced myself mentally that I've already had surgery or something. I seem to be having the opposite problem as most on my pre-op diet. I don't think I am eating enough. I was never a water drinker except when trying to diet so I am really working on making sure I get at least 64 oz in a day. I was also a smoker for 25+ years who had tried to quit many times. Once I made the decision to move forward and scheduled surgery, I quit cold turkey without a problem!!! I have quit so many times over the years and it is always HARD, so I'm not sure why it was so easy this time. Now I'm not smoking (1 month now), I'm drinking my water, I gave up my Dr. Pepper addiction (3 weeks now) and instead of the 1 week full liquid diet my doctor requires I decided to do 2 weeks. I am 1 week in and getting about 400-650 calories a day and I'm not hungry. In fact between the water and the food I feel like I am always having something and I'm full. My typical day is 2 protein shakes, a can of soup or some broth for dinner and sometimes a sugar free popsicle. I am going to try and make sure I have 3 shakes a day to try and up my calories. Now obviously this isn't the way I always eat or I wouldn't be where I am at now. And typically when I am dieting I am tremendously hungry all the time so this is all very odd to me. I guess I'm taking this to mean that I really am ready. I know I was feeling like I "cheated" on the process since I haven't been through the counseling and visits with nuturitionists and all. I already know I don't qualify through my insurance so I didn't even bother going that route. I did my research, searched my soul and decided this is what I wanted and scheduled it in Mexico. So maybe this is my body's way of telling me that I really am ready for all of this.
  18. Glad you doing well moira a new! Walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip.
  19. Sure, from what I have read, heard and asked he sounds like a great surgeon that is very caring and compassionate. Lora his coordinator has been great in answering all of my questions and getting back to me quickly. With Dr. Kelly you don't pay a thing until you get there. I have started my pre-op diet already. He requires 1 week kind of Atkins style/low carb and 1 week full liquid. I did a few days low carb and am doing 2 weeks on full liquid just to make sure my liver is as small as it can get. I will let you know how it goes afterwards.
  20. My surgery is 9/16 with Dr. Ramos Kelly at Hospital Nova.
  21. I am supposed to do 1 week of low carb "atkins" type diet and 1 week liquids but I decided to do 2 weeks liquid since its also low carb to give my body a jump start on losing. I didn't qualify through my insurance but I am determined to make changes and get this surgery so I am heading to Mexico for my surgery.
  22. Way to go Heather, sounds like you are already rocking it!!
  23. Its getting more real now. Started my liquid diet today, only 2 weeks until surgery and I can't wait!!
  24. I'm just up the road from you MMXIII in Washington, near Longview, My date is the 16th but I am heading to Dr Ramos Kelly in MX. What kind of pre-op diet do you have to do?
