Band to sleeve success question....
asauv replied to luvzpitbullz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i was banded in2003 and went from 217-110 lbs and regained to 157. revision to sleeve on 9/16 and was 157 at time. i am now 135. so far, so good and still losing -
i was told by 2 surgeons that they do not cut through the tissue that was banded but they cut around it, creating a pouch up top. i was not told this up front. i was told that when I asked both surgeons.

HAVING BAND REMOVED ON WED..OCT 9TH OMG!
asauv replied to JewelJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
had my lapband since 2003 and had it removed with sleeve in same procedure 9/16. it all went perfect! No problems. I thought for sure there would be, having lapband for over 10 years -
i was told by my doctor that people successfull with the band tend to be successfull with the sleeve. the "cut" is also different with a revision versus a straight sleeve. the surgeon cuts around the scar from the band and not through it, leaving a "pouch" at the top. my surgeon denies this has any effect on weight loss. I had aband to sleeve on 9/16 but still on liquids. I get really full and feel stuffed, if I drink my protein drink a little too fast. So far so good. I like the idea of the sleeve and felt it was 100% of what I needed to be successfull.I don't think it is for everyone. Just weigh your options and good luck.

Goodbye band hello sleeve ! So much anxiety ! Surgery tomorrow !
asauv replied to Band07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i had my revision last monday 9/16 and I must say the absolute worst part is the drive to the hospital! my revision was much easier than the band probably because i did not have much gas in my shoulders, as i did with the band! i was discharged yesterday and taking nothing for pain. i know some people recover differently. the only thing sore is the side where my port was. good luck to you! -

things probably changed in four years. i had my band for over 10 yrs now and got down to 110 but it just doesn't work for me with constant port irritation and band slipped, causing weight gain. not sure why you keep having to leave a msg at their office. i never have issue getting through. keep trying and good luck with whoever you may use. i just always put my trust in Dr. Cribbins bc I have seen him over 10 years and i always feel he is doing what is in MY best interest. i am a nurse and super critical of doctors! also Cribbins is doing one step revision for me in two weeks!! good luck! -
you can go onto bcbs website and look at what determines medical necessity for certain procedures. Aetna too. research their guideline and copy/ paste in your letter. i am an insurance nurse. believe it or not, if you can mention ways it will save them money in the future too, that will help. if u are adiabetic you can mention that insurance pays so much a year for insulin but if u loose this weight, it will save them money in the future. i would not mention a lawyer because it has no affect on their decision. physicians and nurses with a license to uphold make these decisions based on medical necessity but if written in plan that it's not covered, that's really hard to get denial overturned. Good Luck!

i saw Dr. Cribbins in April and was scheduled the next month for a revision to a sleeve. i put it off until September. they are really quick. no 6 month wait for me. Dr. Cribbins was one of the first in Dallas to do lapband surgery, so he has been doing these for years. i made appt with Dr. Barker and ended up walking out bc his waiting room was so full of people and i really hate the feeling of being a number and not the patient. went and saw Dr. Nicholson who does the two step surgery, which I did not want. stuck with Dr. Cribbins. he is awesome. i actually work with a nurse, who used to be the nurse of Dr. Hamn, ( dr.cribbins partner) and all she could say is how wonderful Dr. Cribbins is. -

Dr. Cribbins did my band 10 years ago. going for a revision to sleeve in three weeks. Dr. Cribbins does revision in one surgery. Dr. Nicholson does it in two surgeries one week apart. not sure why because the cut is made around the scar tissue from the band and not through it. Dr. Cribbins is the best. No doubt! I believe Dr. Cribbins is the director of Bariatric surgery at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano.
