Beating myself up :(
Scylla replied to bellaaa_vita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think sometimes we are too hard on ourselves! I am pretty strict with my food intake. Although over the 4th weekend in a moment of weakness I ate two Reese's flavored Oreos and about 1/4 cup of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. I ate that small amount and was totally satisfied--but I was pretty disappointed in myself! HOWEVER, my husband pointed out that back in the bad old days pre-sleeve I would have eaten the ENTIRE pint of ice cream and probably had some Oreos, too! All we can do is dust ourselves off, learn from our mistakes and try to do better the next day. -
Woohoo! Way to go!

Thanks for asking this question! I've been curious about this, as well. I am about 10 weeks out also, although I like to eat a Quest bar for Breakfast.

GREAT NEW SINGLE LOCATION FOR "STALL TALK!"
Scylla replied to LivingFree!'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes! I had the dreaded 3 week stall also and that lasted for two weeks. I am now about 10 weeks out and just hit a stall again, but I was just under 300 for a long time. I hope I don't keep stalling every 5-6 weeks! -
I hate to be gross but i have not had a bowel movement
Scylla replied to Erica517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon recommended Peri-Colace, which is a combination of senna (a stimulant laxative) and docusate sodium (a stool softener). The brand name is pretty expensive, so I buy the Walgreens version for a fraction of the cost. When I was on the 1 month pre-op liquid Protein diet I was so backed up and miserable! The Peri-Colace helped normalize the situation. -
Vsg 4 weeks out and struggling
Scylla replied to vsg_meredith's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My experience has been like that of Sleeveless in seattle's. I am 9 weeks out and have just lost 25ish pounds since surgery. It has been very SLOOOOW (to me, anyway) but steady. My surgeon and nutritionist say 2-3 lbs a week is great. The average for a sleeve patient is 1-2 and 2-3 for gastric bypass. Just keep doing what you're supposed to and you'll do great. I find that I do better if I make sure to get my exercise in. -
Liquid Protein, anyone?
Scylla replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whey Protein isolate is the most absorbable protein for bariatric patients. I initially started buying the Premier Protein shakes and loved them, but my NUT did not recommend them because they are not 100% whey protein. She told me that even though it says 30 grams of protein, you'd probably only absorb about 10 of that. -
Chewable vs gummy vitamins
Scylla replied to Texas Moon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon and my NUT both said no gummies because if you compare them they don't contain nearly the same amount of Vitamins that chewables do. -
13 lbs. in a week is fantastic! My doctor told me that the typical loss will be about 2 pounds a week going forward.

Dr. Alberto Aceves a well known and respected Bariatric Surgeon from Mexicali was killed in a tragic plane crash
Scylla replied to Georgia's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
That is such tragic news! He made a huge difference in the lives of so many people--just on this board alone! My condolences to his friends, family and patients. R.I.P., Dr. Aceves! -

Non-NSAIDs Pain Relievers
Scylla replied to blondiebabs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have severe osteoarthritis in my knees. It was torture having to give up the Voltaren that I had been taking for about 7 years. My surgeon wants me to exercise 5+ days a week, but being off of the NSAIDS makes that very difficult and painful. I am taking Tramadol and Tylenol. It helps a little, but doesn't do much for the inflammation. I was OK'ed to take Celebrex about 2 weeks after surgery. I tried it for about a month but it did not really help me AND caused me to gain weight! No thanks! -
How soon did you return to work?
Scylla replied to countrygrl1978's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was on Wednesday and I returned to work 2 weeks to the day after surgery. -
How long until you had your first drink?
Scylla replied to 4.7.2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So did mine! The reason being that drinking can lead to poor food decisions and there is also a risk of addiction transfer. -
Ex-Friend Keeps Writing Negatively About Me on Different Blogs and Web Sites
Scylla replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh Sharon.... *hugs* You definitely don't need that kind of negativity in your life. It sounds to me like your former friend is jealous of you (or in serious denial about her own situation). In any case, she sounds like she needs to see a psychiatrist and potentially get some meds, STAT! It sounds to me that she is posting various places about what happened with your friendship in search of validation of her crazy actions. It sucks to lose a longtime friend, but you've decided to make this wonderful change for yourself and your health and that is what's important. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people. -
Freaking out. Surgery was Monday, have fever don't have phone #
Scylla replied to Sassypants92201's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sassypants, I'm so sorry to hear you are having trouble! Did your surgeon in Mexico put you in touch with anyone locally to follow up with? If not, you may want to follow up regularly with your regular doctor or get a referral to a bariatric surgeon who can see you for follow up visits. -
It depends on your insurance. I was shocked to find that my surgery and 2 day hospital stay cost $34K. I was only responsible for $500, thank goodness!

My favorite is Syntrax nectar chocolate Truffle. Also, it is 100% whey Protein. Some of the others mentioned are not. If you do a search of "protein powder" you will get THOUSANDS of results (and opinions) where people have asked the same question. I'm only saying that in case you don't get a lot of responses here.

I would be honest and ask your doctor. I quit smoking over 17 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, but before that I quit and re-started more times than I can count! I'm sure that it also the case with many people after surgery. I know it's the case with friends of mine who quit smoking for pregnancy and then started smoking again after the baby was born or after they stopped nursing. Chances are after two months your incisions are pretty well healed, but I think you should see what your surgeon says about it. Good luck!

Yay! Congrats!
-
You should ask your doctor's office, but my doctor's office said that they use the BMI from when you first came in, especially if the insurance or physician's practice requires that you lose weight before surgery.

I have joint pain in my hips, knees and ankles, but that is because of osteoarthritis (mostly caused by my weight.) It developed when I was about 35.
-
I am right there with you! I am 6 weeks out and saw my NUT at one month out. At that point, I had lost 14 lbs. since surgery. She thought that was great--an average of 3.5 lbs. a week, she said. But it seems so darn slow to me!

What month did you first try carbonated drinks?
Scylla replied to Unhappysleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor doesn't want his patients to go back to carbonated beverages, either. Honestly, as long as there is Mio and other brands of "Water enhancers", I am fine! -
I'm going through the same thing. I was sleeved almost 6 weeks ago. Most people in my office think I just had gall bladder surgery (which I did). My boss and two co-workers whom I trust know that I also had the sleeve. People are starting to notice that I've lost a bunch of weight, so I'm just telling them I am exercising more, avoiding carbs and generally trying to eat less. You don't owe anyone an explanation. What you've been telling them is just fine!
