Hi Everyone!! I have not posted here since a couple of weeks before I was banded.....and I now realize that I need to have some band buddies because I feel that I am not doing this right!!! I have lost a total of 31 pounds, but most was before the band. I had my 1st fill August 11, then my 2nd fill, September 12 and I only lost 4 lbs for that month! The Dr. said it was fine, since I was at the low end for BMI on the lap band, 41, but I feel that I could have lost 4 lbs without the band! I really don't feel full when I eat, (only sometimes can I tell I have the band). I thought it would be more consistent. I am exercising, about 2-3 miles a day, walking. HELP!! I need to get on track regarding eating...... Can someone tell me what they have for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & any snacks for a day? That would help me a lot!!

Hi Everyone, I just started doing research on where to get my fills (mexico lapband) and I was so surprised when I spoke to Georgetown Bariatrics in Lexington KY and they said that the Dr. never does fills always a nurse practitioner.....is that the norm???

Nurse Practitioner doing fills?????

Thanks everyone for the input......I had NO idea that that was the norm!! Here I was getting paranoid for nothing!! -
Can you have band slippage if you drink too much liquids....I was banded 2 weeks ago, all I have been on is liquids, but I can drink a whole "cup of soup" (cream of chicken, very smooth) with small sips, but I still drink it all!! Any thoughts??

Anyone heard of Dr. Francisco Gonzalez in TJ?
suzielondon replied to Liz1531's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi Everyone!! I was just lap-banded by Dr. Gonzalez July 23, 2007, it will be 2 weeks tomorrow!! I am so happy with Dr. Gonzalez and his team! I would definitely recommend them to anyone. I felt like they were very sincere regarding my care and well being. The day before my surgery I met with Dr. Gonzalez, he went over the whole procedure, showed me a band, was very patient and answered all my questions, so I went to bed that evening very content. The next day I was nervous, I will admit....the whole staff is so easy going and assured me everything would be o.k.......the next thing I knew I woke up and was wondering when I was going to have surgery.....I had already been!!! The nurses were great, making sure I was well hydrated (best I can after surgery and the next day), making sure I was comfortable and always checking in on me. If there was anything that I could say could be improved was the fact some nurses did not know english well....but I have to say they did know all the important words....Pain, Jello, shower, etc.!! And would always take care of me!! The most important part is coming home and healing properly and I have, my incisions, my pain, etc. have all gotten so much better since surgery 2 weeks ago. I even woke up on my "port" side last night.....big improvement. If I had to do it all over again I would not even hesitate to go to Dr. Gonzalez. His team and his skills are wonderful! Especially Dr. Valenzuela and Laura.....they explain everything.....100 times if you need it!! One other thing, I went alone to Tijuana, and Laura picked me up from the airport and brought me to the hotel which is located right in the same complex....you do not even have to go outside to get to Dr. Gonzalez's office. I felt very safe! When I went home, Laura brought me back to the airport. I am actually glad that I went alone, I was really able to rest and recuperate before I went home to my hubby and 3 boys! You definitely need that. If anyone has any question just let me know! By the way...I was 275 (time of surgery) and now I am 259.......it's working!! -
What does restriction feel like??
suzielondon posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, I'm a new bander, just banded July 21. Today (which is 5 days post-op I feel WIERD......is this what restriction is: -feeling like I have to sit straight up (when I slouch it feels like I ate too much) and I only have had small amounts of liquid today. -feels like when I would eat too much before being banded -feels like I have to burp -feels like if I did try to eat dinner (liquids) I couldn't -I guess I feel full, but really have not had much! So Expert banders what is restriction supposed to feel like....the above??? and when should "restriction" after you eat (liquids) get back to normal "restriction" so that you can eat your next meal....hope that makes sense??:grouphug: Thank you for all your help!!!!:grouphug: -
Hi Everyone... Another question for the experts:), When does the port pain end? I have had surgery 5 days ago and I still feel pretty good port pain.... -hard to roll over, stay on side, either side -area feels tender sort of swollen Am I jumping the gun thinking I should be Super Woman on healing or what?? Thanks again!!

When does Port Pain end??
suzielondon replied to suzielondon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

What does restriction feel like??
suzielondon replied to suzielondon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, Thank you all for your insight....I am feeling much better now, 9 days since the operation....I'm so glad the people who responded really calmed me down!! I think you were right TerriDoodle, it was probably just swelling and extreme restriction, I'm still on a liquid diet and it definitely feels much better!! It is so difficult to know what to expect your body to feel like, Thank God for the LapBandTalk.......I would be a basket case without all the info here!!! -
Some info for the logs.... Chimboree Yes, my surgery is on a Saturday!! It works out great since my husband has to be Mr. Mom!! My current weight is 275, 5'8", was there any other information you need for the spreadsheet? I have started weening myself off of some foods, I've been off of coffee for 4 days, and no sugar/sugary foods for 2 days. My Dr. also has a Pre-Op diet/Liquid for 8 days before surgery. I can't imagine going from regular eating one day to lap band eating the next day! I would be definitely setting myself up for DISASTER!!! I just don't want to not succeed at this like I have all the other diets that I have been on. I really get worried about that?...anyone else have these same fears?? Good Luck to everyone who is getting their lap band in the next couple days!!:clap2:

To Everyone flying to get their band..... I just called Delta Airlines ( I will be flying in 2 weeks to Mexico) and requested the bulkhead seat for the flight back, I can't imagine being in a squished seat just having surgery. This is what they told me: -1st they entered the request in the database under my reservation, -then they said when I arrive at the airport to request the bulkhead seat and -I am also going to bring a note from the doctor that I just had surgery. The airlines always hold bulkhead seats for the day of travel. I guess I just need to get to the airport early to insure this works!! Makes me feel so much better, I'll be able to stretch out a little more!!:biggrin1:

Vicki & s_springston - I have done a good amount of research and I thought that I was going to go to Monterey and get banded by Dr. Rumbaut, but the banding day, July 24 (mid week stay) they offer a discount but the airfare was too high.....not that money alone was going to make my decision. I never had the opportunity to speak to anyone but the patient representative (she is wonderful) but I thought that I should look around. Dr. Oritz, Dr. Huacruz so I did and I ended up on Dr. Gonzalez website and I was very impressed, so I made a call and actually was able to talk to one of his team. Wow, I was really impressed, he took the time to answer my questions and I am very impressed by the facilities and all the wonderful reviews on this site. Well I ending up deciding this is the team for me. Vicki, we are going to meet!......he had an opening July 21, (so awesome that he does weekends!) Now we will be banding buddies!!
