5 Days Post-Op- Sick, Tingly, Hard to Swallow
AvaFern posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Monday (9/9) and I woke up miserable. After spending 24 hours super sick, they realized the narcotics were contributing to the nausea, so that seemed to fix that a little bit. Despite this, ever since surgery I feel like I was hit by a bus. My incisions don't hurt, and I haven't needed any pain meds, but I feel awful. My feet and hands get tingly when I sleep, I can't choke down enough of the Protein shakes to get anywhere near the goal, but my biggest problem is that everytime I take a sip of anything I can feel the Water (or whatever) making its way down the entire length of my throat, chest, and stomach. It feels like it gets hung up a little at a few places, and it's almost painful at points. Is this normal? -
Having difficulty getting water in. 4 days post op
AvaFern replied to TallGirl71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 days post-op and I know how you feel. Plain water of any temperature didn't work for me, and I can't choke down protein shakes or anything milky. I have been drinking the Propel Zero water at room temp and I just realized in the last 3 hours I've finished closed to 16oz! (This is a record for me so far, lol). I also feel like the water gets caught up on little chunks all the way down my throat, which is really unpleasant. Hopefully you and I will both be sipping liquids like champs in a few days- good luck! -
I'm 7 days post-op and the thought of food makes me gag a little. I am lucky that I would only be cooking for one, so the fact that you have to make dinner for your family must be very hard- you have my sympathy! In a few more days we can eat a little bit more normally and hopefully that will help a bit. Real food is coming!

5 Days Post-Op- Sick, Tingly, Hard to Swallow
AvaFern replied to AvaFern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That makes me feel better- thank-you! I may try freezing the protein shakes, that sounds more tolerable than drinking them. I feel like the only thing doesn't make me miserable is flavored water. I'm at 7-days post-op so fingers crossed there is a light at the end of the tunnel! -
Me too! (on the chunks part) I've been taking Prevacid because I thought it might help fix it, but I feel like everytime I swallow the water has to get past little chunks all the way down to my stomach. It's very uncomfortable. I'm 6 days post-op and I would be interesting in knowing if anyone else had this issue and how long it takes to go away (ohhh I hope it goes away :/ )

5 Days Post-Op- Sick, Tingly, Hard to Swallow
AvaFern replied to AvaFern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the input everyone- I feel much less alone. I keep reading these stories of how people feel awesome the first week after surgery and I'm like....why do I not feel awesome!? I also feel weak and kind of wobbly and I can't seem to choke down the Protein shakes in anywhere near the amounts I'm supposed to. Swallowing still feels uncomfortable, but maybe that's just part of the deal for the first week or so. I hope everyone starts feeling better soon! -

Thanks! I just feel like I'm gagging on everything. My doctor told me to take some prevacid and basically suck it up, so I guess we'll see how that goes, lol. I hope your recovery goes smoothly! -

My surgery is on Monday (9/9)...I'm also totally terrified. Statistically though, we should be fine.

SURGERY IN 5 DAYS AND I HAVE A BAD COLD.
AvaFern replied to Pattie1966's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is this Monday and I woke up Friday with a head cold. I haven't been sick in over a year! I took a bunch of vitamin-C and Airborne, and drank a lot of watered down OJ and today I can breathe through my nose again. I was so worried I would have to miss surgery on Monday, but I read that as long as you don't have a fever and you can breathe decently, it shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully you have enough time to recover between now and next week. I have to drive 10 minutes to the hospital for my surgery, so I can't imagine how upsetting it would be to get sick right before a trip to Mexico. I'll take some extra Vitamin C for you! Hope you feel better!
