Have you become more of a Foodie since surgery?
LynRN replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well put. I find that I want better food and I will go to the store and buy 2 oz of beautiful scallops or jumbo shrimp and other things that I would never buy because I was focused on quantity over quality. I am embracing the restriction an looking forward to being truly successful at weight loss while enjoying great food. I have heard that tastes change and some even lose interest in food for a while. I guess I will just take things as they come. -
I saw a thread like this in the RNY forum and it had hundreds of responses. As a newbie (4 weeks out), I am very interested in seeing what other sleevers are eating, so I was hoping we could start one here. Pics and recipes welcome! I'll start: dinner is 1/3 cup of Hormel Turkey Chili No Beans w/ 1/2 oz of Cabot sharp extra light cheddar cheese. And I'll have low carb pumpkin custard for dessert (it's also my Breakfast this morning, too).

I was Nov 25th. I hope it's going well for you.

I'm 4 weeks out, too. When was your surgery?

I actually have been following that thread too. You always post such interesting and yummy sounding things. I just thought maybe I'd start another one for dinner selections. We'll see what kind of responses it gets:)

So, I am almost 4 weeks out and on a soft diet. I put my meals and snacks in MFP for the day and it looks like I may be able to get in over 60 grams without the protein shake. Does it matter what source the protein is from? Is whey protein better than protein from food? All of my meals and snacks equal about 575 calories. I might throw a Special K2O packet in my water for 30 cals, 5 g fiber and 5 g protein. I am choosing low calorie foods with lots of protein. Also, I am working a 12 hour shift tonight so I will be snacking through the night, but I included those snacks in my total. Thoughts?

Today is my last day on puréed, so I decided to make myself something special. I made Shelly's baked ricotta from "The World According to Eggface." And I burned it. Aaaaargh! Blackened Ricotta, NO BUENO! ....but I'm still gonna eat it, though. Shhh! Don't tell anybody.

What were you eating at 3 weeks post op? I am currently on puréed foods with some soft foods allowed like scrambled eggs, cheese, refried Beans, tuna/chicken salad, and watermelon. I am eating 3 meals per day with 1 or 2 Protein shakes which comes to 60-80g protein and 650-700 calories per day. Does this sound right? Also, I have noticed that sometimes I get burpy and it feels like the food is dancing up and down my esophagus for like an hour after I eat. There's no pain at all. It's just annoying. Does that mean that I'm not tolerating those particular foods or am I eating too fast or too much? I'd like some feedback from those of you who have some insight into this. Thanks.

Your tummy progress is amazing. I have a really round poochy tummy and I hope it is the first thing to go.

My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
LynRN replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much of that were you able to eat? -
Two weeks out here. What symptoms do you have when you're not tolerating a particular food? What have been your experiences?

Anyone go back to work two weeks after surgery?
LynRN replied to Phillyphan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am an RN and I went back at 11 days post op. I work 12 hour nights and I was fine. Granted, I never really had any incision pain and I wasn't super busy those first couple of nights. I also only work on the weekends. I wish you well. -
I found them in the dairy case with the other dips.

80%! That seems outrageous? I think that is a "superfluous" exaggeration. -
I am 13 days post op and I feel like I've already been stalled for a week. I have heard of the 3 week stall, but one week, really? I am at the puréed stage and I eat 3 meals per day (1 egg w/cheese for Breakfast, 3 oz chicken salad for lunch, 3 oz puréed chili w/ cheese wedge) plus one Protein shake amounting to 600-700 calories and 70-80 grams of protein per day. I haven't started exercising yet but plan to start walking next week. I have lost 8 pounds since day of surgery. Is it too soon to panic? Please help? Does this seem like too much food too soon? Thoughts? Also, this may be TMI, but my monthly visitor is here this week. Could that be the issue?

Stalled after the first week?
LynRN replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At least you got 4 weeks of weight loss. I guess it is normal. -
Stalled after the first week?
LynRN replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cheese is on my puréed list from my nut. I really use it more for Protein than anything else. I always use 0.5 oz of Cabot sharp extra light for 30 calories and 4.5 g protein or laughing cow light wedges for 35 calories and 2g protein. I will begin an exercise program next week. I am a bit tired still this week as I have already gone back to working 12 hour night shifts. I am really just hoping that I am not the one person that the sleeve doesn't work for. I have been meeting my protein and Water goals everyday. I am thinking of cutting out a meal and going back to 2 Protein shakes. But in all honesty, the protein shakes have more calories than my small meals. -
Anyone Else Think That They'll Be The One That Will Die?!?
LynRN replied to Sabredy12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started a thread a couple of months ago called "Smooth Recovery, Anyone" after reading[ too many complication stories and needed some positive reinforcement. I got a ton of responses. You should check it out. I'm 2 weeks post op now and so far so good. I'm already back to working 12 hour night shifts (with my surgeon's approval). -

Protein Shakes Vs Food On Pureed Diet
LynRN posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 13 days post op and I have noticed that I seem to get really full really fast drinking my protein shakes. But when I eat food (2-3 oz of chicken salad, scrambled eggs, etc), I don't feel as full or nearly as uncomfortable as I do when I have a protein shake. What gives? -
Protein Shakes Vs Food On Pureed Diet
LynRN replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I'm waiting the necessary time. It's just that it takes me 20 minutes to eat and an hour or more to get a protein shake down and I get full to the point of discomfort. -
I am 11 days post op. in the last few days, I 'be noticed that if I try to drink too fast, my heart starts to race and I just feel bad. Has anyone else noticed this? This isn't some form of dumping is it?
-
Has anyone tried Cabot Sharp Extra light cheddar cheese? It's 60 calories and 9 grams of protein per oz? I think it tastes pretty good, too. I have also started using Special K20 protein water. It has 30 calories, 5g Protein and 5g Fiber per serving. Both are kind of pricey, but I'm trying to find any way I can to eliminate the 2nd protein shake. Thoughts?

Things are going great. Just started puréed yesterday. Putting some chicken salad in the magic bullet as we speak. I go back to work for a 12 hour shift tonight. We'll see how that goes. Thanks for asking. How far out are you? Do you mind sharing your stats?
