Olive/darker skinned men/women and scarring from surgery
spunkyirishpunk replied to gamergirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
To aid with the scarring maybe try using mederma to lessen the look? I have a very fair complexion and that's what I've been using. -
Going back to work
spunkyirishpunk replied to nsweety123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really is dependent upon the job and the physical demand it has. I work in a gym and as a dog groomer and am unable to return to work for 4 weeks luckily I'm almost done. November 13 I am back at work I am going a bit stir crazy so I completely understand where you're coming from. -
Truth about protein...
spunkyirishpunk replied to callchrissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein helps maintain muscle and helps the body repair itself as well as build muscle. You very well may have consumed over 60g of protein prior to surgery you would be surprised. I looked at a label of organic chicken breast the other day to see there was 28g in just 4 oz I couldn't believe it. Also, the protein makes you feel fuller longer so it helps fight your hunger as well. I average 60g-80g per day -
How should you drink water
spunkyirishpunk replied to beauty29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sip sip sip!!! Even when working out its best to sip the water because otherwise you could get a stomach ache from chugging the water. Prior to surgery when I would run and I would guzzle down water I would get a terrible stomach ache or feel full which would slow my running. Small sips works best! -
Who out there gets hot and cold a lot?Q
spunkyirishpunk replied to mokee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been getting the freezing, I haven't experienced periods of hot and cold just mainly the cold. -
I was sleeved Oct 9 I didn't have hiccups. When you get the pocket of air try walking around it may help loosen up the air and allow you to burp I've had that a few times and it did help me.

Side effects from protein
spunkyirishpunk replied to kj44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you keep up with your water intake you should have no problems as the water helps flush your kidneys. You would have to consume TONS of protein in order for it to have an adverse effect. -
Yeah I would definitely listen to the doctor. It really is whats best

Pain-Free Almost
spunkyirishpunk replied to Bigbeaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with ya! My only pain is my large incision and I've had smooth sailing through mine too. Congrats! -
The gas pain really is the worse. I really don't know what to compare it to because I've never broken a bone besides toes which didn't really hurt to me. I had gotten chewable beano but never even used them. Walking really helped me a lot with the gas pain. Sorry couldn't be more help

I was told 4 weeks by my surgeon and my weight restriction is lifted. Since I have another week to go I joined another gym just to get in the cardio. Walking got pretty boring

Be sure to keep your elbows like glued to your body otherwise the rope shortens obviously making it difficult. Besides that just keep at it, you'll get there! I know its hard when you keep whipping yourself with the rope but you got this!

Just an observation- Governer Christie
spunkyirishpunk replied to tampa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No he hasn't at all and he claims he has no health problems which I don't buy. I was watching something and a doctor had said in his opinion he needs to lose AT LEAST 200 lbs which he wont be bale to do via the lap band. Although if he hasn't had virtually any success with the lap band who knows if he'd be able to adhere to the dietary restrictions of a vertical sleeve. -
Moving on from walking
spunkyirishpunk replied to cubbies76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2.5 weeks out and just went to the gym this morning actually and did the elliptical for 45 minutes I was walking 5 miles a day too! At my post-op check in my surgeon told me I can do whatever cardio just still no lifting over 10 lbs till I'm at 4 weeks -
Bars you could try the CarbRite diet off bariatricchoice.com, I've had a few so far and have yet to have a bad one (I bought one of each flavor to just try). I also drink isopure zero carb since its 40g of protein per bottle its basically like a sports drink. Could try Quest bars too! I do use the Bariwise pudding, and hot chocolate which are also delicious. Sometimes with the pudding to make it thicker I'll put an extra scoop of my choc protein in it.
