  1. You are not really eating enough calories to sustain an exercise program. Your body has been without solid food for over a month, now. Be aware that it is time for you to anticipate that "dreaded third week stall" that we talk about here on the forum, so don't freak out about it. If you stay with the formula of getting your Proteins first you will do alright. At the soft food stage you could even have very tender meat that has been broken up a bit in the blender, cheese, cooked veggies mashed up, some of us were even eating refried Beans at that point. Your new stomach is the boss of you now, so you may as well give it a name and listen to what it is trying to tell you. This whole process is about developing a sense of self-preservation through outstanding nutrition and new habits. Just like when introducing junior foods to a toddler, you don't give the child a lot of new stuff on the same day. Take your time. But you need to eat something. You can't trade overeating for anorexia. Due to your medications, Vitamins, and ketosis, some of your old favorites may no longer taste the same. My new stomach is Miss Tummy, and yes, at almost a year (12/23/2014) she is still the boss of me.
  2. Don't push it just yet....your stomach needs to heal from the brutality of the surgery. If you have not checked out a Youtube video of sleeve surgery, you should do so to get a direct visual of what just happened. Even a mosquito bite swells, so just imagine how swollen and tender that new tummy is. What you could do is suck on a piece of ice or a popsicle in-between your sips.

    Approved! Finally!

The hard part is over. The first week post-op is no picnic, but now you are on your way to discovering the new you.
  4. I have been living in sweats, tees, and diabetic socks for the last 30 years. Since my surgery I have purchased sun dresses, regular socks, skinny jeans, and jeggings. I also have been letting my hair grow a bit longer. It seems like the bigger I got, the shorter I cut my hair. In another six months (1 1/2 years out) my hair should be a shoulder-length bob with bangs. If you remeber Rita Moreno from when she got the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Oscars last year - that is the new style I am going for.......owning the gray hair and rocking some really sharp looking clothes.
  5. I buy the 85% dark chocolate bars at Aldi's at put them in the freezer. When I feel the urge, I just break off a small piece. It takes forever to melt in my mouth and usually satisfies whatever craving was there.

    NSV!

Good for you! I love all of our non-scale victories. Have you noticed that your bed probably feels bigger now that you are smaller?

    Rejection sucks!

Instead of thinking "I love him, so why does he treat me this way?" start thinking "Why would I love someone who treats me this way?"
  8. Oh, crud. Well, while you are deciding how to proceed, you can do what the rest of us have to do on our pre-op diets........you know the drill. Lots of Protein, some veg, a little fruit, limited starchy carbs. Don't become part of the couch. Drink Water until your eyeballs float. So, if that door has been closed, come in through the window.

    Breakthrough acid on Protonix

Omeprozol has been working fine for me. I am less than two weeks away from my one year....still take one every morning when i get up.
  10. Well, if we are what we eat, then I must be fast, cheap, and easy!
  11. The doc knew ahead of time to look for a hernia that showed up on th EDG scope. Once he got to actually see it, he decided that it was too small to fool with.

    Qualifying comorbidities....seriously?!?

I used that list from the National Institute of Health as well when working with my team to determine qualifying co-morbdities. I was told to include anything on that list that caused complications for anyone I was related to. So, we added my mother's premature death at the age of 67 (only four years older than I am now). She was 5'2" and weighed 320 when she died of an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm - a complication of her own obesity. We included my dad's two heart attacks, and my brother's heart attack and premature death at the age of 47 (he weighed around 420 pounds and the funeral was delayed so that a double-sized coffin could be built). Here is the list if anyone wants to use it for inspiration: Obesity Comorbidities To follow is a list of comorbidities (additional conditions or diseases) related to obesity which may help you in qualifying for weight loss surgery. Family history of heart disease Family history of stroke Family history of diabetes Family history of heart attacks Hyperinsulinemia Diabetes High blood pressure Coronary-artery disease Hypertension Migraines or headaches directly related to obesity or cranial hypertension Congestive heart failure Neoplasia Dyslipidemia Anemia Gallbladder disease Osteoarthritis Degenerative arthritis Degenerative disc Degenerative joint disease Recommended joint replacement from specialist Accelerated degenerative joint disease Asthma Repeated pneumonia Repeated pleurisy Repeated bronchitis Lung restriction Gastroesophageal reflex (GERD) Excess facial & body hair (Hirsutism) Rashes Chronic skin infections Excess sweating Frequent yeast infections Urinary stress incontinence Menstrual irregularity Hormonal abnormalities Polycystic ovaries Infertility Carcinoma (breast, colon, uterine cancer) sleep apnea Pseudotumor cerebri Depression Psychological/sexual dysfunction Social discrimination Premature death in the immediate family

    Work Rumor Mill

This thread reminds me of Bonnie Raitt's song "Let's Give Them Something To Talk About......let's give them something to figure out."
  14. Pre-op prep at 6 a.m. Transported to O R 7a.m. 1st patient of the day Into recovery around 8 a.m. Into a patient room around 9 a.m. 3 hour wait for my boyfriend, but just seemed like a nice little nap to me.

    PRE OP DIET SUCKS!

Yep. We may as well tape that stuff to our hips.

    Depression

On days like that, a shower always helps. Also, I make sure I open up the window shades so that I am not hididng in acave.

    Post op nutrition

My sample meals for a day come out to about 64 grams protein, 50 grams carbs, and 800 calories.

    Approved !

Every time a bariatric surgery is approved, an angel gets its wings.

    Hair

The hair thing is really a blind crapshoot. I did not lose any, while some folks suffer miserably. Just prepare for it and hope for the best.

    Bad breath...

Sweat and ketosis is just fat crying.

    Old habits....die hard.

Think of the contents of the candy jar as pretty little pieces of rat poison. While you are at it, do not stop at McPoison's, Poison King, Poison Bell, or TGIP (Thank Goodness it's Poison).
  22. if I have tea at all, it is decaf. Green tea tastes like feet.
  23. The sleeve totally resolved my gerd issues. I still do not take chances with caffein, but I am able to eat tomatoes and foods with mild salsa. I had a small hiatal hernia, but the surgeon said it was too small to bother with.
  24. Caffein was a major contributor to my pre-op reflux. I do not want to go there again.
  25. Oh yeah, this too......tell them you think the dog might have licked the brownies.
