Smye, you said: "Short version - we'll both be finding new exclusive partners when we're each ready as individuals, divorcing at that time, but maintaining our incredible friendship through it all." Are you talking about an open marriage? Hmmmmmmm....interesting concept for your situation. That might just work.

Congratulations! You are offf to a great start. That six-month supervised diet will definitely help you establish habits that are essential to bariatric success. One of the hardest concepts for me to change was night eating. I could actually be doing well on a Mediterranian diet, then would blow it around midnight with a carb fest. I just had to determine that the kitchen was closed after dinner and I limited my trips to that part of the house. 21 months post-op, night eating is still a challenge, so I just keep popsicles on hand. Right now, my late snack is cherry tomatoes from the garden. Success also depends on how you stock the fridge and pantry. The fewer temptations, the better. So at least if you cave in, you can grab something that won't do so much damage.

For me, a slider is any food that I can eat mindlessly without engaging a restriction. And yes, it usually starts with a C or is the color white (potatoes, bananas, Pasta, bread, sugar, flour, pancakes...that sort of thing).

Newly sleeved and nearly single
Miss Mac replied to SimplyMsE's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, she can't undo your surgery, so she may as well go along for the ride. That said, it is no secret that bariatric surgery will expose the raw dynamics of your relationships with friend, family, companions and co-workers. One excuse is as good as another when you don't want to do something, so if she is dragging her feet about embracing your healthcare choices she may not be supportive in other ways that you just had not noticed yet. I wish you the best, but do you remember the old song lyrics to Ray Steven's Everything is Beautiful? "There is none so blind as he who will not see." ??? I hope that as you become healthier she will come around to realizing that surgery was a brilliant pro-active choice to give yourself extra years to enjoy her companionship. -

My 39 year old daughter just got married on August 15th to her gal pal. As her mother, I oftened wondered if she would lean in that direction eventually. She has had a few short-term boyfriends, but just did not have personal fulfillment in those relationships. They had a beautiful back yard wedding with supportive friends and family to Celebrate their love. Coming from a very judgemental and traditional religious background makes it hard to wrap my head around this whole concept of same-sex relationships, but this one thing I know: it's not who you love, but how you love. My daughter has taught me so much about acceptance of people very different from myself. Just the same as I would support your wife in following her happiness, I would encourage you to do the same. If you had to go your separate ways to accomplish that, it sounds like you could have amicable results. You deserve full companionship as much as anyone else. Life is too short to be unhappy with a mate who does not reciprocate your affection. She can still be a cherished friend. If you both recognize a disconnection, I wish you the best in finding a way to cope. This is a good time to be open and honest with each other. Counselling will expose the true dynamics of her sexual orientation one way or the other. If nothing else, maybe the counselor will help her find ways to accept your love and learn how to return that love back to you in an intimate way.

Costco Rocks! And NSV.
Miss Mac replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Losing your pants is the gold standard of NSVs. Congratulations! -
Mine was stopped the day of surgery.

I did not have to, but I could have gone it alone with others just checking up on me. But that is because I am retired and do not have to take care of little ones. Just be prepared to be tired. If someone offers to help - let them.

Full liquid diet using unflavored protein ideas needed
Miss Mac replied to krystalgenie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have become a fan of vanilla milk, just adding a capful of vanilla with some sweetener to 10 ounces of milk and mix in my Protein. Sometimes I add a little cinnamon. -
I live in a tri-level and was all over the place since the day I came home from the hospital - day three....and I'm old - no problem.

You had better be drinking about a gallon of Water today to flush that out of your system. Even if you don't tell your surgeon, the truth will be evident as soon as your stomach is operated on. Now you have put yoursel at risk for an infection in your abdominal cavity. Normally, I am not so harsh, but I don't wish acute peritonitis on anybody. Water, water, water, like your life depends upon it.

Donate or Save Clothes
Miss Mac replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I donate stuff as soon as it does not fit. I do not want to give myself any room for gain back like I used to. -
My sleeve was my 12th surgery, and frankly the easiest and least painful. The big factor here is how your surgeon handles pain management and whether or not they extract the CO2 before they close you up. The worst was the knee replacement.

What do you say?
Miss Mac replied to Adrianabelle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Here is a marching cadence for you while you are out taking a walk: I don't care what people say. Gonna get my surgery anyway. They're gonna get a big surprise, When they see me go down in size. Pounds off 1 - 2 Pounds off 3 - 4 Pounds off 1-2-3- 4 1 -2 - 3 -4! -
The most important question I asked my surgeon was "How do you handle pain management?" My concern was that I read where so many people in this forum suffered accumulated CO2 gas in their shoulders post-op. The doc uses CO2 to inflate the abdominal cavity to make it easier to manipulate his instruments and see what he is doing. Apparently, many surgeons just close you up when they are done and tell you to walk it off. My doctor said he would extract as much as possible before closing. Consequently, I had no shoulder gas at all. Good luck with your surgery and recovery. It will be money well spent.

What was the deciding factor?
Miss Mac replied to Chelsea Marshall's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had bad reflux and esophagitis and got sleeved 12/23/2013. I have had no problem with relux since my surgey. -
I am soooooo glad I am retired. Even at the age of 62, I was still dealing with "mean grls" at work. It sounds like yuo are a dedicated hard worker who will do just fine working someplace else. Just consider that every little thing you do (even tasks you don't like) can be considered as resume bait. Plus, by venting here instead of cutting loose at work, shows that you can add "diplomatic" to resume. You hang in there. They don't deserve you. It will all work out in the end.

WLS for the "right" reasons
Miss Mac replied to ShrinkingButtercup's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A stroke did it for me. I figured that I did not have any more time to try yet another diet. I had been on a diet since 1978 and gained an extra fifty pounds. -
Help..idk what to do
Miss Mac replied to rosebud_char's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the sleeve because I wanted "one and done". I did not want a port in my belly and to have to deaL with fills and deflates and the risk of the band rupturing my stomach. I have enjoyed a textbook recovery with no hair loss. I could not have asked for better results than that. -
Weight loss - does it pick up any faster?
Miss Mac replied to brandeett's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Take that twenty pounds a month while you can get it. When I hit six months, the weight started coming off in grams instead of pounds. -

Miss Mac replied to lmm300missouri's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is the one I got: http://www.americanmedical-id.com/product/womens-stainless-steel-expansion-band-73 They engrave three lines, so mine has my name, gastric sleeve, no NG. A clasp opens to hold a piece of paper that you can put other ID and medical info on.
