Outpatient surgery scheduled for February 26th...need tips!
Miss Mac replied to CL~ATL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This worries me. Are you going back the next day for a leak test? All I wanted to do for the next two days was sleep. I hope you do have someone in the house to help you for at least a couple of days. Folks who get their surgery in Mexico fly home in a couple of days, and hundreds have done it, but it takes about that long to get your senses back and get on your feet. -
Nope. Mine was a 1/2 hour conversation about my eating habits, weight history, willingness to follow doctor's orders, and my motivation for getting the surgery. This was at a major university teaching hospital in the big city.

There are a few people here on the forum whose pre-op testing saved them from serious disease. For myself, it happened when I had the ultrasound of my liver. My belly was really tender and had been for a few days, so she checked in that spot, too. OMG, I had an ischemic colon. I spent 8 days in the hospital trying not to have some colon removed or die. My doctor told me later on that he thought he was going to lose me. My sleeve surgery was already scheduled for a month out and went on as planned. Delay is not denial.

I don't know what to do about my judgmental father. He has my blood boiling lately.

Sorry for the odd numbering. I did not type it that way. It's just doing its own thing. -

According to the Michigan Penal Code, Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult Dependant (verbal, emotional, mental, physical) is a crime punishable by fines and up to 15 years in prison. Unfortunately, what your father is doing with you and your money may very well be a crime. These statutes explain what qualifies as abuse and what the penalties are. MCL § 333.21771, Abuse, Mistreatment, or Neglect of Patient Prohibited Nursing Home Patients MCL § 750.145n, Vulnerable Adult Abuse MCL § 750.145o, Violation of Act by Operator or Employee of Unlicensed Facility MCL § 750.145p, Caregiver or Other Person with Authority Over Vulnerable Adult6 Michigan MCL § 750.174a, Person in Relationship of Trust with Vulnerable Adult According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, http://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/0,5885,7-339-73971_7119_50647---,00.html the following people that you interact with have a Duty To Report required by law to report this abuse to authorities. Mandated Reporters: Health Care Services. Including, but not limited to: Physicians. Nurses. Psychologists. Counselors. Aides. Hospital Administrators and Staff. Educational Services. Including, but not limited to: Teachers. Administrators. Counselors. Public Services. Including, but not limited to: Social workers (administrators, supervisors, caseworkers, etc.) Law Enforcement Officers. County medical examiner and employees of the county medical examiner. Adult Day Care Providers. If these people know of your situation and do not report it, then they are committing a crime. As a survivor of domestic violence, the best advice I can give you is to start eliminating road blocks one by one. -
Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man------then I gave it to my daughter whose girls will be teenagers soon.

Guy's Room - Men, you might want to try this...

This this post showed up on the main forum, I am going to chime in. Check this out: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Diamond+Dallas+Page+Yoga&&view=detail&mid=9A007E586E2E404BBA299A007E586E2E404BBA29&FORM=VRDGAR Diamond Dallas Page is a retired wrestler who says he has never done a crunch in his life. He promotes the concept that Yoga is sufficient for body-weight strength training. He says, "This is not your Momma's Yoga!" It is definitely a "manly man" work-out. There are several routines posted on You Tube. -
8 days out and getting cold feet
Miss Mac replied to bobr68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This thread will encourage you. It currently has 1, 277 reasons why we went ahead and had bariatric surgery. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/219831-what-was-your-final-straw-that-broke-the-camels-back/page-128?hl=%2Bfinal+%2Bstraw#entry4074142 -
What should I ask during last Dr. visit?
Miss Mac replied to MIMISAN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask him what is his approach to pain management. Ask him what he does do to prevent gas from accumulating in your shoulder. What our doctors do is inject CO2 into the abdominal cavity to expand it. This way it is easier to manipulate their tools and see what they are doing. My surgeon said he would extract as much as possible. Therefore, I did not have shoulder gas. So man people suffered needlessly for days while this gas dissipates. -
Completely Emotional...
Miss Mac replied to sam1016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of us go through tormenting doubts before surgery and buyer's remorse until we get back on regular cooked foods. So.....you are in good company. What I want to address more specifically is your concern about losing friends. It is no secret here on the forum that bariatric surgery exposes the raw dynamics of your relationships. People can't hold back their comments as you re-invent yourself and some may hurt your feelings or back off of their friendship with you. This is not necessarily a bad thing. You will find out what people have actually been thinking of you all along and how they do or don't value your companionship. What you will just have to do is evaluate whether or not their response is toxic to your recovery and peace of mind. Unfortunately, this goes for spouses, too. You will also find out how you value yourself and where encouragement is needed. Stay with us. We are a very supportive community. Opinions and tact will vary, but we mean well. -
How long were you on pain medicine for at home?
Miss Mac replied to scoots's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two days......my largest incision only bothered me if I was careless about how I got up from the bed or chair, for about a month. I did not take anything for that since it was momentary from time to time. -
Shoe Size Dropping (NSV?) - What about you?

Way back in the day (1960's) TV's Granny Clampett (Beverly Hillbillies) treated Mr. Drysdale for a cold. She had convinced him that her homeopathic remedies were far more effective than what his fancy city physician could provide. Granny told him to drink plenty of fluids and stay in bed and rest. She slapped mustard poultices on his chest and made him eat possum Soup. As she tried to comfort him, she told him that he would be alright, and in two weeks he would feel as good as new!!! On a personal note, a pharmacist gave me an over he counter product called Cold-Eeze. It helps because it contains massive amounts of zinc which (according to a 1996 research study from the Cleveland Clinic) hinders a cold virus from reproducing and cuts a cold short. According to a 2010 report published by the National Institute of Health (a part of the U S Department of Health and Welfare), some doctors even require a zinc supplement after surgery if blood work shows a drop in zinc values. Cold Eeze may not be for everybody, but it works for me.

Pre-op clearance - SO FRUSTRATED!
Miss Mac replied to RNsleever715's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being a seasoned medical professional, I am sure that you did not really expect a physician who does not know you to risk his license and reputation for approving an elective surgery removing 80% of a major organ. I don't know how or why you have not accepted the fact that you are worth regular medical attention just the same as your patients. That primary physician is not only protecting his practice, he is protecting you from a strange physician who treats without proper examination and a new patient profile of bloodwork and nutritional values. Hang in there. Delay is not denial. -
I ate some soft food, what's the worst that could happen?
Miss Mac replied to Joshua Torode's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was started on soft foods at two weeks. -
AFRAID! Surgery in less than 24 hours
Miss Mac replied to Jessee3897's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just think of it as a nice nap and when you wake up you get to re-invent yourself. For me, all the pre-op requirements and emotions were much more to overcome than recovery. Give your new tummy a name. Mine is Miss Tummy, and two years later, she is still the boss of me. -
Anyone had to do a low carb before liquid diet?
Miss Mac replied to 2016NewMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. Three months of 1200 calorie low carb. Lost 22 pounds. -
How many clear liquids can you consume without discomfort?
Miss Mac replied to provenzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's an ounce every 7 1/2 minutes......not so bad since it pretty much goes through quickly. -
Mine did not melt away either. Every gram was hard-earned. Keep in mind that stalls are like lovers; your first will probably not be your last.

O'hare.......Ugh! That is why I am glad that Midway Airport is not far from home. However, you stand less of a chance of getting direct flights to many places.
