  1. Sorry to go back to the original topic here, but beyond all of the other advice here.

If you are complaining about having to eat the cheap food, stop buying the alcohol and spend that cash to buy better quality food. It doesn't have to cost a lot to eat good, it takes thought and will power to make good decisions, like not buying bad things like Cereal and alcohol.

  2. My surgeon is a wonderful guy, He could have put a lot more bandages on my stomach and I'm sure he would have had a good laugh. His attitude was such a positive motivator to have the surgery. My progress is continuing a little slower that I'd like but it continues. Daily step on to the scale can be a bummer but writing it down only every week or every other week makes me realize just how much I'm loosing. Realistic 6 month goal maybe 75 - 90 pounds basically 13 pounds every 4 weeks.

  3. I started walking around the unit, but I didn't have much pain, 1st steps out of the room was a walk (okay a shuffle) around the unit, maybe 5 minutes, second time out was 2x around, next morning was 3, and eventually up to 5x around before being dismissed about 5 PM. Walks at home continued, starting around the block at 1/2 of a mile. continued increasing to 2 miles 1/2 a mile at a time, so for September it was about 40 miles, about 18 hours of walking for the month. It was a good change, my wife and I walked together, first time in years do to a regular activity together.

  4. Why, well I yo-yo'ed for years, and could loose the 1st half but never the 2nd half, with this tool I feel my odds of loosing all of it are much more likely. A year a go I would have said no way, 6 months ago I would have said hmmm. The seminar was a way to placate somebody else, well at least that is what I thought. I met an excellent surgeon and critical mass of others who had done WLS must have been met because I committed to it after that seminar, for the purpose of having a better 2nd half of life.

  5. As a born citizen I know we have had individuals at my work go to passport offices around the country, Chicago for the mid west and they were able to expedite a passport in a day by paying extra fees. My last experience with this was like 5 years ago so I don't know if it's still possible.

You need to go the state department web site read down to the bottom of the page where it says if you need your documents withing 4 weeks and go from there.

    Good Luck

  6. You need to try some different shakes, have you tried nu-way available at wal-mart ? they might not be great but they are 42 gm of Protein in 3.5 ounces, if it doesn't seem right, mix it 50 / 50 with cold Water and add some ice. Isopure premixed is also a good one. When it doesn't taste right, change it up. I'm 2 weeks post op, and am doing a GNC powder mix now, it's much better when I add ice to it after mixing, it sips much better.

  7. I went back and forth with the though of to do or not for several weeks, The though that has stuck with me and let me convince myself was, are you ready ? I can yo-yo up and down and only ever loose about 1/2 of what I need to be be considered healthy. A sleeve will enable me to loose that 2nd 1/2 that has always been elusive. The first 1/2 has never been "easy" but the 2nd 1/2 has always been impossible, that is not the case going forward.

  8. How's it going for everybody sleeved on the 29th ?

Just had my 2 week post op followup, lucky me I can go back to work full time on Monday.

    Side effects noticed:

    - Have to tighten the belt another notch :-)

    - Some clothes are starting to feel a little big :-)

    - Walking a lot more than I have in the past 20 years

    - Little bit of re-flux that I never had before

    - Little bit of tingling in the leg and arm, likely because I was readied for surgery and then waited and waited and waited I'm told, should work it's way out

    - A slip of diet coke tastes horrible, 2 more weeks of puree'ed food

  9. It all kind of varies by the practice you are going to but mine was the following.

Seminar (they took my info and checked on insurance benefits notifying me a few days later)

Patient Education class (more detail beyond the seminar)

    Psych Eval

Some type of a cardiac clearance (mine was a cardiac cath screening)

    Visit with dietitian

    Blood work/lab

The real insurance letter coming in the mail rejecting you asking for more documentation, (the gal at the dr's office was great, had this final approval in 5 days)

Pre-Op diet 10 days of mostly Clear Liquids

I'm 2 weeks post op now and had the follow up today.

    Hope that helps,

  10. I'm in, it's surgery + 5 days using MapMyFitness, one of the tools that my work Vitality program partners with, works well with my Android phone when I remember to turn the GPS on.

1.5 miles down, better get the walk in for today

  11. The 10 day liquid pre-op diet has made me doubt if this is the right action to take at this time. I feel like I've never been so committed to doing the rhght things for me, and while it's not been easy, it also has not been hard. So I reason to myself that if this is so easy why have the surgery. Doubt sets in.

My answer that keeps me on track forward is that even if this is so easy, and I've yo-yo'ed up and down so much but I've never been able to get lower than what I think is 1.5 my ideal body weight always in that 1.5 to 2x range. I see moving forward as the path to be able to reach the goals of being my ideal realistic body weight.

So I got the final approval phone call today so next Thursday I take the next important step in this adventure we call life. I still hope this is the right path.
