  1. I'm not keeping it at secret at all. At first, I told my family and some close friends...then I said what the heck... what's the big deal. Told a couple of colleagues and employees last week at lunch. Those that agree, will agree and support and those that don't well.. to heck with them. This is for me and my health. Like it or Lump it. If someone wants to past judgment on my decision, who cares... I'm sure some of those that do, would love to do the surgery too but don't have the cajones..because they are afraid of what others will say or think, or are terrified of making a positive change in their lifestyle and health choices. Oh well..again, if they don't like it.. C'est La Vie.
  2. Back2Barb... I know that look... like WTH happened to you..and what did you swallow! I'm avoiding my cousin's birthday tonight because I don't want to see that look on people's faces.

Congrats! Yep, it's probably the surgical tape. I had an allergic reaction to it twice when I was in the hospital, it pretty much came from the tape combined with the sweating I was doing. Anti-itch cream helped the best...as did Vitamin E

    Most excellent!
  6. Ugh..I understand. Been there. Done that. While in Dominican Republic I saw a couple of resort workers making "grande" curves in the air to one of the fellas that said hello and was nice to me. My feelings were so hurt. I shouldn't have let my friends talk me into traveling there. For the last 8 years, I've always vacationed in Jamaica . The men there love larger women and I felt totally adored and beautiful, but alas it was only vacation and I always had to come back to the reality of my life and health issues.

    Hello Everyone! :)

I was just curious, just got some hair back. I've been through chemo multiplie times and have been completely bald, so only losing some probably ain't so bad :-) Thanks for responding.

    Hello Everyone! :)

Fantastic job!! Did your hair fall out at all?
  9. Oh and the office did give me a Sleeve pamplet about 12 pages thick. I think the pre-op diet probably is addressed in it....I kinda like tossed it on the back seat of my car. Had to concentrate on making all my appts, so I haven't really read the whole thing.
  10. Hmmm..really? My initial consult was about an hour. He also won't operate on a smoker, said you must be 6 months smoke-free because it can cause complications during surgery. I'm not sure if there is a pre-op diet, haven't gotten that far yet, but I'll find out soon, if it is so.

Scared this might be a mistake

Yeah, don't do anything you're not sure of... that is my only advice. As for me, I've tried pretty much everything, I've lost a great deal of weight on my own and over the years, only to regain it plus some. This is not just about the weight for me, it's about my health and my history and medical issues. I've done my research, discussed it with several doctors, my oncologist, gynecologist, the WL surgeon and my PCP..and I've arrived at the same conclusion they have... it's a postive step in the right direction.. For Me. You have to decide if you're truly ready to do it. I know, I am. Best wishes.

    Only a few weks out!

From everything I've read here and from what the doctor and nurse told me, you will still be very sore 4 days out from surgery. I was told to count on being home from work a minimum of two weeks.
  14. Awww I feel so bad for you. All that prepping... but I was told the same thing by my doc..even if the CT Scan & MRI doesn't show anything, there could still be something there when he goes in...especially with my cancer history. Here's hoping it all works out quickly and you can get your sleeve and start your journey. Stay positive.

How did you pass the time?

Yep, I understand. I've scheduled all mine close together to get it done and over with as quickly as possible. My insurance will pay for it, but I have to do three separate months of visits, my initial consult with the doc 8/15 is one, NUT eval on 09/11 counts as #2 and then NUT eval on 10/1 counts as the third. They are waiting for my cardio appt to submit paperwork to insurance... Doc says I should be able to get surgery early October (fingers crossed). It also depends upon the results of my CT Scan & MRI...my oncologist already agreed verbally but wants to submit his written approval after Scans...just to make sure I am truly cancer free... Just hang in there..it will go quickly.. look at Summer...it's pretty much gone.

  22. Yes Yes Yes.. I miss my heels. I have a closet full of expensive shoes...sandals, boots... when clothes stopped fitting, I transferred to shoes and boots...and I can't wait to dig back into them again!
  23. Skinny jeans, an off the shoulder winter white sweater, a pair of dangling silver earrings, killer pair of stilleto black leather boots, hair piled atop my head and a strut like I'm on the runway!!
