Okay, your replies have put things a bit more into perspective for me. Michee - I never used to eat anything healthy before being banded either! But oddly enough, now that I know I can only have a little bit of food, I make sure it's something healthy (well 90% healthy anyway

Okay, but how do you get in the old recommended five fruits and veggies, much less the ten recommended now? And that's just fruit and veg. Then there's protein and dairy ...

So a while back I got stuck on a Vitamin and it was stuck there for quite a while. After that I felt a burning along my throat, all the way to my stomach. It felt like when I was pregnant and had heartburn where you need to take a lot of Tums, if you get my meaning. I've never had it before or after that, so I'm not quite sure if heartburn is the right word for this sensation. I got a partial unfill because everything got a little too inflamed due to the stuck pill. That was about a month ago that it was stuck. Since then I still have that acidic feeling in my throat. It's gotten somewhat better, then I think it's gone, and then it comes back another day. Have any of you experienced this? You'd think after a month my throat would have been healed.

Sounds kind of like when I decided being a pilot would be cool. FYI, ANYONE can learn how to fly a plane, and it's pretty darn unglamarous as well!

Thanks Steph, I'm going to look into these vitamins.

Happy Thanksgiving! Well, what we did on our special day was almost get lost on a mountain in the Ozarks. We went for our first mountain bike trip as a family (me, my husband, and four year old on a tagalong). It was supposed to be one hour, 4 miles. We kept going and going and going, then realized we'd better just turn around as we'd already gone 4 miles and there was no end (there was an option to go 8 or 12 miles, and I think we missed the turn off). So we turned around. The sun was going down, we ran out of water, had NO survival gear, not even jackets. This was not an easy path - very rocky and hard to see with leaves covering it, so no way to follow it in the dark. I prayed to my deceased grandpa and God the whole way that we would make it back to the truck before the sun went down. We finally made it with 1/2 hour to spare - a one-hour trip turned into a four-hour trip. I lost count of the times I fell due to sheer exhaustion. But it ended up being a very, very thankful day. I'm not uber-religious, but I find God usually in nature, and he/she was certainly watching out for us that day. I kept watching the sun go down and just kept praying God stay with me, give us a bit more daylight. It would have been very scary being caught out in the mountains at night with no water or fire. I will never go into the mountains again without the basic survival gear.

November Nymphs Bandiversary Celebration!!!
lindata replied to Momto1plus1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had this feeling pre-band when I took my son to a place with inflatable jumping things and the weight limit was 200. I couldn't believe I couldn't go on it even if I wanted to. :wink2: Bandpal, Wendy, you're like completely different people!!!! -
What is happening to me is a lot of acid reflux, but no vomiting or nausea, no PBing or sliming. I got a partial unfill today so I hope it's just that it was too tight. I'm also burping quite a lot.
-
I'm going through similar things now. Sorry for the dumb question, but what exactly is an upper GI? Like, what is the process involved?

Another thought that has held true for me ever since having been banded is this: no matter what my mind is telling me, I don't need food as much as I think I do, and if I do, I need a whole lot less than I think I do. Yes, Bandpal, I have discovered this too. It's amazing what we can live on. And those multi's are like an SUV. I've tried crushing them but they hurt going down that way too because they kind of burn my throat. I think I'll have to find a safe chewable (I don't like the Flintstones - too much fake stuff in it). I backed out of the X-ray today. I don't want to have any radiation exposure unless absolutely necessary. I told the nurse and she was okay with it since she agreed it didn't sound like "slip symptoms" but more like being too tight. I got a partial unfill. I'm 99% positive my problem resulted from that stuck pill, because ever since then I've had the acidic feeling in my throat. I'm already feeling better today, but can still feel it somewhat in my throat. I think I just need to let it heal more. Everything is going down good today. Bandpal - I think I was as tight as you were - didn't want to get an unfill because I was still losing a bit and didn't want that to stop. But things were just painful going down. Please don't hurt yourself! Get an unfill before you really get inflamed. You're quite a distance from your fill doctor, aren't you? You sound like your head is really in the game now, so a bit of an unfill wouldn't hurt you mentally, would it? Like I mean you've got the self-control there now? I think I'm getting there. This whole idea of surgery scared me though because if I ever get it taken out, I will NEVER be able to eat my trigger foods, because once I do I literally don't stop. Steph - I have looked into the sleeve a bit but haven't researched it a lot. I wish I had looked into other options before the band. Is it just me, or does it seem like it's really easy to screw up and hurt yourself with it compared to other surgeries?
-
Well, I think you're doing great. It is easy to become obsessed about calories/fat grams, etc, especially with the aid of the band to help us along. I'm getting an X-ray done tomorrow for my problem. The nurse said if there's a slip it usually means surgery. I'm thinking if I need surgery again I'm just going to take it out. I've been thinking lately about all the things I don't like about the band - for me personally - and that if I ever did have a complication I'd just get it taken out. I'm concerned about not getting enough nutrition (I hardly eat anything), I never want to go on holidays anymore because I'm terrified of getting food poisoning and the accompanying slip that goes with it (or even just the flu), I am still concerned about having a foreign body inside of me and the health concerns that go along with that. But we'll see what tomorrow brings. Maybe it's not a slip and I'm just too tight ...

I had the same thing occur. I needed an unfill - was using a spit cup all night long. The next time I was in a touch and go situation, I had some liquid benadryl before I got to the stage where I couldn't swallow my own spit. Then I sipped very slowly, just liquids, for about 2 days or so. Then I was extremely careful with mushies, and I was fine.
-
Steph, you are doing really great with your weightloss - to change the topic, but since I am the thread starter, I can do that, right? Give me the details. What are you eating day to day and what are you doing exercise-wise?
-
I've read through and couldn't find anything similar to this - so I apologize if this has been covered already, but I couldn't find it. About a month ago I got stuck on a multi-vitamin. Everything got a bit inflamed so I got a little unfill. Since then I've felt an acidic feeling in my throat - all the way from my stomach up to my mouth. It's not like liquid acid, just a burning sensation. There's no liquid coming up or anything. I've read that liquid coming up could be due to a slip. So this is not like that. Quite a few nights I have to sleep elevated or else that acidic feeling won't go away. And it's not all the time either. Some days I'm fine. It was a lot worse closer to the days I was stuck. Now it's mostly at night when I feel it. I will go to the doc and see what's up, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or if it sounds suspiciously like something you've heard of. Thanks!
-
Steph - I think I'm going to have to call my doc. I don't want any permanent damage if this is a slip or something. It just sucks because I'm self-pay and I'm sure that an X-ray or whatever they have to do is going to cost a lot of moola.

Thanks for the perspective Foofy. So an environmental consultant? You're like my new person to look up to. I'm a huge environmentalist on a personal level. How do you go about getting the kind of job you have? I'd love to help the environment and get paid.

I miss it too. There seems to be times when I stay away for whatever reason - either I'm depressed because I'm not losing, or just in a slump in general, or too busy. I'm always very glad to come back and talk to everyone though.
-
Been there, done that, still doing it! I still feel I look big even though I can't possibly. Steph, you look AMAZING!!!!! I am so proud of you!!!:tt1::tt1::tt1::eek::drool::biggrin::w00t::cursing::tt1::w00t:

Shortgal - you are doing fantastic! Sades - I'm so glad you are near restriction! Skinny Jill - you look GREAT!!! Look at your skinny lil face! -
Cindy, I'm not talking about the band leaking, I'm talking about just in general the plastics that are out there. Have you heard of BPA in plastic and cans? Just google it and you'll find lots of info. That's what I was concerned about.

Flu shot during first tri?
lindata replied to pvchickie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I understand your concern. I have a child as well, so have been through pregnancy and all the risks associated with it. Please just look into what is in flu shots. If you go to www.mercola.com and put flu vaccine into the search engine, you will come up with a lot of info there. There are other places online you can look it up as well, I'm not saying this is the only site, just one I recommend for things like this. From all the reading I've done, I'm convinced that flu shots don't actually do any good. It's hard to predict what flu strain is going to occur when they make up the flu shots, so you may get a shot for a strain that is not even around. Please don't go just by what your doctor has told you. Do your own investigation into what is right for your body. Look into the risks of the flu (or any other) vaccine and see if you like all the toxins that are in them and if you think it is healthy. I wish I had done that when I was pregnant, and afterward when I was vaccinating my child. -
Flu shot during first tri?
lindata replied to pvchickie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Flu shots still have mercury in them. I wouldn't get one at all - pregnant or not.
