Kristina - I had my surgery Nov 2 and it gets better every day. My incisions only hurt when I'm getting up or down. What hurts the most is the gas pain in my left shoulder. It was so unberable I had to take pain meds. Linda

Nessa, we're going to Disney World in Feb and I actually can't wait because I'll be so much lighter. It's the first trip in a long time that I haven't been leery due to the weight. Linda

Banded4life - it might make you very sick. I'm not sure if it's possible to get sick under anaesthetics, but definitely when you wake up. I think the docs want your tummy to be as empty as it can be. And, believe me, you do not want to be puking with a sore tummy from being operated on. It can also cause your band to slip if you puke, especially if newly banded. It's too bad you didn't have your last meal a few weeks ago. I had my last "mealssss", many, many meals (haha) before the pre-op diet. Linda

I'm allowed cream soups mixed with milk. They fill me up pretty good and taste soooo good after the clear liquids. I really like the sugar free pudding as well. The other things I have are protein shakes, broth, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello. Linda

When do your doctors say you can start exercising? I'm not planning on doing anything soon, because even driving still hurts when I go over bumps. Linda

I must admit I'm keeping mine - but just in case I get pregnant again. Linda

Day three and my shoulder pain is still very intense. I even had to take pain meds for it. Anybody else still getting this? Longhorn - I'll definitely be staying home if I ever get the chance to go through somethingl like this again! What's everyone's post-op diet like? I'm only supposed to have 3 meals, 2-3 ounces per meal of liquids, and Water in between, but I'm so hungry that I'll be having a few Snacks as well. Linda

oh yeah, it also hurts to cough. I can't quite get a bit enough cough going to be effective - and it also hurts to laugh hard. Linda

Sades, I had never had surgery before either and I was quite terrified of the "unknown." I was in hospital for my recovery too and I totally get ya about the nurses popping in ALL THE TIME. I couldn't believe it. I have a 3 year old son and thought hehehe I get to stay in the hospital overnight and get a good rest for once in three years - boy, was I wrong. I was sharing a room with a really old lady who had to be moved every so often, then our call buttons weren't working and they had to do maintenance on it between 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning, all the while turning on and off the lights. That's why I wished I had an eyemask. Then woke us up bright and early at 6:00 a.m. I kept walking to the nurse's station the next day asking when can I go home? I'm very glad to be home now! Linda

Edeva, what kind of job do you have? I think I'd be able to do a sit down job, but I don't know ... I'm a SAHM but my parents are here to take care of my son so I can recuperate. I'm very lucky. I'm still having shoulder pain. I'm glad to know other people are as well - well, not GLAD but you know what I mean - glad to know that it's gas and nothing to be worried about. Walking seems to help me a lot. I seem to get gas everytime I take a sip of anything. It still hurts to get up and down but once I'm sitting or standing and walking it's not bad. It takes a while to straighten up while walking and for it to not hurt. Hope everyone's recovery is going well. Linda

Definitely roller blading! And biking. I'd also like to run a marathon someday - something that can now be a definite possibility. There's an outdoor group around here that I'd love to join but of course not at this weight. Linda

By the way, if anyone is doing this in a hospital, one thing that REALLY was a lifesaver was earpugs. Another thing I wished I had was an eyemask. I shared a room and the lights were on and off all night. Linda

Hi again. Since I've been home I've been walking around a lot more than in hospital and the pain is decreasing all the time. It's really helping with my shoulder pain (gas) as well. Linda

Had my surgery and it went well! Linda

Hi. Had my surgery yesterday at 8 a.m. I was really out of it until around 1:00 and then woke right up. Apparently the band placement and surgery went so well that I didn't need the barium swallow. I stayed in hospital overnight and finally got away this afternoon. Glad to be home. I'm up and moving around but it hurts at the incision sites in transitions between getting up or down. Laying down I can barely feel it. I have to walk quite slowly as well. Now, as for shopping a few days later, I don't think I'll be up to that - or cleaning my house. What's with you guys!! lol I have recurring pain in my shoulder which I am assuming is gas pain. It gets worse when I'm upright and goes away when I'm laying down. I didn't feel any nausea ever. I'm eating broth/jello/juice for my meals for the next 2 days and Water in between. OMG I almost forgot to tell you guys. I was so scared on the drive in, but the second song on the radio, I kid you not, was "I'm Too Sexy". Can you believe it? I had to laugh at that. How appropriate. I was VERY scared and crying leading up to surgery time and so relieved to wake up again. I am so happy right now that it is over!!!!!!!!! Good luck to the rest of you going in for surgery. Linda

Okay, it's so heartbreaking to hear of people losing weight and having to take the band out due to slippage or erosion. Is it something that just happens or is there a way to prevent this? Linda
-
Andie, after the first two days or so I wasn't that hungry. I just have 3 protein shakes a day with V8 in between if I'm still hungry. If you drink a LOT of water, especially with your protein shake, you'll find that helps with hunger. I still get hunger pains at night at bedtime, but not during the day. Linda

Well, the November 1 bandsters are probably all done surgery. Can't wait to hear from y'all!!! Linda
-
Bandster, thanks for your response. I want to leave notes too and I've been telling dh what to do "if" IT happens. I'm trying to live my life positively too though and don't want to attract anything negative. Me and my son had a wonderful relaxing day today - no yelling! We just hung out at the library and playground and talked for about an hour (an hour is big since he's only 3.5 years!) I'm just trying to be the best mom I can be just "in case". Linda

Good luck, Longhorn!:biggrin1:

Rvingdi - I know exactly how you feel. I get totally out of control with food all the time and every time is worse than the last. For me it's like I'm an alcoholic except with food. When I cut out all the junk, it's hard for a few days, but then gets better. But if I eat one little thing, it's back to eating bad again. Right now on my pre-op diet I'm eating well. It had to take something extreme to make me eat well though (being banded). Just stay clean of junk for a few days, will yourself through it, and you'll probably feel like you can do it the next day and then the next and then the next. Take it one day at a time. Linda

Good luck, Raph!

Mammathang - before and after pics, yes, definitely about a million times here too! That thread and the thread about after reaching your goal weight really keeps me inspired to do this. Bandster - you mentioned ketosis. Are you doing a low-carb diet then? If so you'll lose loads. And Bible is an accurate description of this place for me as well right now. I'm so nervous, I'm actually getting butterflies as I write this. This sounds morbid but I'd like to share. I'm telling my husband all the things he has to make sure he does with my son if I die. Did anyone else go through this worry? Another thing, I'll be very pampered because my parents are coming to stay with us for two weeks to help take care of my son (and me too, I guess!) I feel almost guilty writing that! Linda
-
Good luck, Nessa. You'll be the first one out, and I'll be one day later! Linda
