Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

Technically, the only people who were in Canada for a loooong time were the Native Americans - they're the "most" Canadian, I guess. For me being coined Canadian can mean I have all sorts of ethnicities in my background - it's a true melting pot of a country - something I dearly love and cherish about it. It's safe to say Canadians are all quite proud of their diversity and the diversity of their country - that's what being proud to be a Canadian is all about.

Longhorn, I'm starting to hate you! No bandster hell, no pain with injections. Sheesh!! :Banane20:

    First Fill

That's something I'm dreading too as we'll return home for Christmas. Some people there know, but not everyone. But everyone there knows how I USED to eat, so I'm sure they'll be wondering what the heck is going on.

    The All Important Popcorn Thread

Well, I was surprised when I got a reply so quick from my nutritionist. Here's what she said. I'm not sure what she meant by fibre content though. You are not going to like my answer. I would prefer that you didn't do the popcorn until you reach the point in your diet where you are eating regular foods again. By my calculation this should be mid January for you. IF you do eat popcorn in the future, be sure it is free of any butter, AND you should not be able to eat more than just a few kernals - a half of a handful at most -due to the size of your pouch. Popcorn is VERY treacherous territory due to Fiber content and could be a slipper slope towards bad habits (chips, fries) Just remember whatever got your here (lapband) - will not get you there (a healthier, fit physique). Discipline is remembering what you want and the band is only a TOOL to help you remember.

    Shoulder Pain

Hollyberries, when was your surgery again? I had the same pain on and off I'd say for a month after surgery. Mine would happen when I was driving a lot and hungry, the combination - but I think it was mostly the sitting and driving. I'm not sure why it happened only in the car, but there you go. Now that I'm thinking of it, it hasn't happened in a while, but I have heard some people having it for a long time. It's awful, isn't it?

    Question about losses

This is exactly how I feel too. And it's the first time I've ever felt this way about weightloss. I used to diet and weigh myself everyday and be depressed if there was no loss. Now I still weigh myself everyday (I know, I know!), but I'm not at all worried when the scale doesn't budge - even if it doesn't budge for a week - because I know with restriction this is going to work for me. It's such a relaxing feeling.

Cassandra, I didn't feel a bit of difference with my first fill either! Once you get that weight loss tracker, you'll be totally addicted to changing it every time you lose - I'm just warning you now! haha

    First Fill

Hi NYgirl. When did you get your surgery done? Mine was uncomfortable sleeping until at least 1 month out. Now if I sleep on my stomach I still need a pillow because it pokes my ribs a bit if I don't (don't know how that makes any sense, but the pillow does help), but if I sleep on my side I don't need the extra pillow anymore. So in other words, it got better with time. I'm so glad yours didn't hurt! Mine did a little. I wasn't nauseated though.

    Question about losses

Hey Wendy. I would be thrilled with 1.2 pounds a week also! Pre-band that would have been a miracle for me to lose that much in a week, if not a month. I've lost 29 since the pre-op diet which would have been, I don't know, two weeks before Nov 2! I'm not losing as much lately, but for once I'm not even worried because this band is going to work with me to help keep my eating in check. Pre-band I would have been on a diet for a few weeks, not lose, then binge, gain weight, be depressed, gain some more, and the cycle repeats. I did WW a few times, and the moment I started plateuing I quit. Anyway, I don't even know where I'm going with this - other than 1.2 pounds a week is great, and the band is going to help you achieve your goals instead of white-knuckling it the whole way on your own. Linda

So Munchkin, been putting any miles on that camcorder? What's going on?

    Now just obese

Way to go Kao! You got me to do it too, and I was pleasantly surprised to find I went from MO to Obese. Another 20 pounds and I'll be just "overweight".

    Getting Stuck

Where do you find little bottles of pineapple juice? I've found pineapple juice at Kroger, but only in big bottles.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

NOT that an English accent is irritating but that he is a Canadian, now with an English accent.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

Oh, that's irritating too. My brother moved to London, England a few years ago and he's getting certain mannerisms and accents in his voice that are very English. So irritating!

    Yeah Holly!!!!!

What do you like best about people?

Yeah, something positive! I like people like my grandma - warm, caring, always interested in people around her, laughs at little things, doesn't get mad over little things either, knows how to have a good time.

Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

Yikes, I hope I didn't offend. All I was talking about was accents, not anything to do with white, black, blue or any other "color". :phanvan I had to laugh at the "Elizabeth Hasslebitch." There's one I can't stand! Let's talk about her for a while! :heh:

    Which embarrasses you more?

Hahaha! Why, thank you! You're the first to notice. I did it with a lot of hard work! :biggrin1:
  19. So I've got a rant to share. I HATE it when I go to a function, (and where I live now most of the chicks are all thin at these things), and they all sit around ME and complain about how much weight they've gained since they had kids. These people might have one, two, maybe three OUNCES to lose, and they're talking in front of big fat ass ME about how fat they are. Like, hello, fat lady in the room, don't you think you're being very rude???!!! I would never call attention to something like that. It's like talking to a quadraplegic about how sore my legs are from jogging today. What's the quadraplegic supposed to say, "I know what you mean?" Why would you draw attention to it?

    Skinny people ignoring your fatness

Oh, I don't think it's malice at all. These people, I'm pretty sure, like me well enough. I know back in my skinny days I never would have called attention to the two or three pounds I gained in front of the one really overweight person I knew. I think it's just very inconsiderate.
  21. Hiding under the tree and building a fort with all the presents - then taking one of the small presents and trying very carefully to peel back the tape without making any noise to peek at what was inside. Waiting for the first star to come out before we could eat X-mas Eve supper. Waiting and waiting and waiting for the dishes to be done so we could start opening presents. Turning off all the lights except the X-mas tree ones.

    Something is wrong with Christmas

You sound like one of the good ones, SueSue. That boy is very lucky to have you for a touchstone in his life. OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD, why did you do this? Why did I look? Oh, no, I'm in a LOT of trouble now. This salt and sweet combination is calling my name ....:faint:If I don't post in the next few days you'll know my band has exploded due to ingestion of too many of these ... these ... these treacherous, traitorous, delectable things! (pssst, by the way, what's candy quick?) I've got a suggestion for everyone who has a hard time with Christmas and it's guaranteed to make you feel 100 percent better. Go to the dollar store, buy some extra large stockings and fill them with toys. It won't cost you a lot of money and you'll make a lot of kids really happy this Christmas.

That sounds terrible. I think phoning the police every time something happens, so it's on a legal record, will help. I can't imagine why a lawyer can't do anything if they are harassing you. Phone a different lawyer. Whatever you do, keep a detailed log of everything - the times/dates these things happened, what exactly happened, write down what was said by who, even videotape if you can get it, or tape record conversations. The more detail, the better, if you want to go to court. I used to type court trials as a living, so I know what a judge likes to see - the more detail the better!!! Have everything documented, every little transaction. If you're anticipating an event, like the one tonight, let your husband go out to do his shovelling, and you go behind him with the camcorder. Then you can tell them you're recording them in the event you go to court. That in itself might stop them - just the threat. Do these people rent? If so, complain to their landlord - on a daily basis.

    Kids can be so mean!

That's fantastic! That's exactly what it is too - parents not teaching kids any better. Why do kids think fat is such a bad thing? My 3.5 year old doesn't even know what fat means. He once described a lady as a potato. I thought he meant because she was big and round shaped. No, it was because she was a light brown colour with a lot of freckles on her face! That ticks me off too when they ask for race - and I'm white (can I say that?). What difference can it possibly make? I'm going to write "human" in those forms from now on. Good one!

What do you hate most about teachers?

I'll use examples from my past for this. What I hate about teachers: Labelling students. Although, my grade 11 science teacher labelled me as volatile, and that's a pretty accurate statement! Being impersonal. A caring, thoughtful word now and then goes a long way. What I love about teachers: Seeing kids' strengths and pouncing on that. Using humour as a way to teach. Teaching with hands on things rather than just with words -the visual impact. Taking a personal interest in a student and helping them achieve goals (whether academic or not) Words of encouragement and praise. The best teachers stick with you through the years - the things they might have said, how they were kind or thoughtful. Even though I've never personally gone back to thank any of my teachers, the favourites are in my mind a lot - so keep up the good work SueSue!
