hi, Roseann here. I just got out of the hospital 2 wks. ago, diagnosed with diverticulitis. Now am adding more fiber to foods, can't really get pasta down anymore, rice is a no-no. I am making a protein shake today, with a banana added, 20 g protein powder,10 g fiber added with FiberSure, all in a Slim Fast shake. I don't have much tolerance for dried meat, so I add some mayo, I also make chick pea and white bean salad, by adding oil and vinegar, and then eat them cold. I try to eat some fruit also.Dinner is small piece of meat, a few bites of veggies. I am trying to add more fiber. Before the hospital, I was doing all ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, hard cheeses, meat, no fruit. No wonder I was so constipated and put into the hospital. FIBER is so important, I can see that now. So please be careful in what you choose to eat, carbs only make you crave more. I don't want to end up back in there with those horrible stomach pains anymore. I am confused also about what to eat. You guys are giving me ideas. Thanks. Anyone out there who has diverticulitis?

I am doing lots of reading on this, and trying to add fiber to my diet. I was SOOO constipated for so long, now it is the opposite- I am adding fiber slowly. I eat chick pea salad, and have no problems with beans. I can't do lettuce, the band is too tight for that. They say cheese, or dairy isn't good. Is that true? I have shredded wheat for breakfast, lunch is a few slices of meat on 1/2 slice double fiber bread, dinner is meat, a tiny bit of potatoes for the low potassium problem. This is all new for me, who ate ricotta cheese, cottage cheese and lots of protein almost everyday for so long. Everytime I got hungry, I ate cheese, which contributed to the straining. My diverticuli got infected somehow, but it feels better now. I just don't know what food will cause any further problems. I do know to stay away from anything seeded. Thanks for your replies.

thanks everyone, puddinpie, teresita for all your ideas. I am really restricted, so it is really hard to eat all that you guys can eat. I did try lean cuisine chicken and beans, got thru a few bites, couldn't keep it down. Then yesterday I put it in my magic bullet blender, had some for lunch, it was ok, but some still came back up. I lost 2 lbs. this week just from trying different foods, not just ricotta cheese or cottage cheese. Your thread is inspiring me to eat more variety, and I really appreciate it. I love Curves, and for my crazy schedule, it works best for me. Thanks again.

I work with a plastic surgeon one day a week and from what I gather from him and the talk in the office, ins. does mostly cover it if you are a bypass or banded patient. It should not be considered cosmetic. It is a medical necessity when it hangs and gives rashes, back problems. You gotta fight it, and if it comes back rejected, you gotta keep fighting. You have to get your dr. to write up a really good letter, and begin now with the documentation of the rashes you get, or yeast infections, and all the treatments you need. Just keep track of all that, and when you go to the plastic surgeons for your consult, have all that ready to give to them to send into the ins. co. The stomach also has to hang down a certain amount for it to be covered. Start documenting any dr. visits now for problems. Good luck.

i am going to try other stuff, thanks for the ideas. I don't exercise much. only Curves 1-3 times a week. Lost lots of inches, which is so great. talk later.

i went to a mexican restaurant a few wks ago, had refried Beans, only a few bites. Before that, for the appetizer, they gave us a small cheese quesadilla. I was able to eat it, in small bites, but after the beans, I started to feel sick, and had to use the bathroom. Since this last fill, things are really hard to get down, which is good. I just need to figure out what foods ar good te eat and keep down, meanwhile getting nutrition.

3 weeks out and NOT LOSING WEIGHT ! hmmm
roseann replied to kaybee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thanks for the ideas. I know protein in lg. quantities isn't good, so i will try to vary the diet with other stuff. thanks, will keep in touch. -
any ideas for me on how to eat properly, I would appreciate it. :phanvan I have been trying all protein only, like cheese, ricotta cheese , some chicken for dinner, protein shake for breakfast, cheese for snacks, then i go off, and have candy and blow it all. I don't get enough calories in, hence my body is rebelling. I need to discipline myself and do each day one day at a time, i am getting so frustrated, that I start out good, then as the day goes by, I get worse. Funny thing is, I am not hungry. I just need to pick, pick, pick, and can't get rid of these bad habits that got me fat in the first place. I was banded 3/05, lost 54 lbs, love the way I feel, but know i need to lose 30 more. I don't keep a food journal, because when you eat the same thing every day, why bother? For those of you who can eat Lean Cuisine, doesn't it come back up?:nono:

3 weeks out and NOT LOSING WEIGHT ! hmmm
roseann replied to kaybee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thanks, but sometimes a bite of lettuce will get stuck. I have a friend who knows someone who runs a support group and this person swears by only protein, that why fill your belly with other stuff if you can feel more full from just protein? Lettuce and veggies are only watery fillers, and they don't stay in your pouch long enough to keep you full. SO, I am stuck between listening to her, who has lost lots of weight just by eating ricotta cheese, refried beans, cottage cheese, protein shakes and nothing else. I would love to try veggies and salads again, and will try that today, see what happens. I PB hard stuff, tomato skins don't go down easy either. I eat raisins for the iron content and sweetness, and they are ok. I guess I am just confused about what foods to eat. I don't go to a nutritionist, but I know they tell you to eat more. I have been eating way too less calories, thus no weight loss. Problem is, I get weighed every month with my psychologist who has the band and she also tells me to eat just protein, nothing else. HELP............. -

What kind of veggies can you eat? I have trouble with them. -
You have to eat really slow and take smaller bites. I PB on certain stuff on some days-the band is tighter on certain days. I have a 4 cc band, and am 3.25 filled so far. My problem is that I lost 53 lbs, 13 months since surgery. I feel soooo great, that I am telling myself I am happy like this, but I know I need to lose more-at least 30 more lbs. I get alot of compliments, which makes it harder to lose this weight. I don't eat the right foods anymore, and that isn't helping. I can't eat bread, or pasta, it just won't go down. I have been craving chocolate alot lately, never liked it before this, so i am worried. Help me anyone with food choices. I am sick of ricotta cheese, cottage cheese.

roseann replied to lovecats85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am at 3 cc, in a 4 cc band. it is getting harder to eat alot of things, which is what I need. The menu is getting boring, can't eat ricotta or any other dairy, due to lactose intolerance. Need more ideas on other foods from all of you. -

can anyone give me info on the support meetings with mauri in goshen? Do they cost money, and can anyone go, even if they weren't banded by Dr. Kwon. Roseann

the only thing I would be concerned about is how much Biotin is in the vitamins. I understand that helps counteract the hairloss, or thinning. DO the Flintstones have Biotin? I take Centrum chewables, and they have it, but doesn't list the amount.

Hey there Jenna, I am in the same boat. I got banded on 3/22/05, and can't even get to the the 10 lb. loss. I am at 9.6. I CAN eat alot, but am really trying not to. I am hungry in the a.m., first thing, and try to wait til 9 for breakfast. Eating protein first does fill me up, tho, so it works. I have been on foods for almost 3 weeks now, and have no problems with anything. Haven't tried pizza tho. I know this is the beginning, but I do get depressed because I thought it would come off quicker when you eat less calories. I feel like you do, princess, a failure. I go for my first fill in 2 weeks, so hopefully it will help with the cravings and hunger. Hang in there, I keep telling myself it will only get better.

Is this right? Seems strange.......
roseann replied to Feel2Young2B40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm with all of you, just 11 days out of surgery, and I only lost maybe 8 lbs. I am hungry between meals, so I eat 1 oz. of cheese, or cottage cheese. And I also have no restriction, so I was able to chew to death a pork chop the other night for dinner, and 5 french fries, being very careful to mush them up though. I hope I get a fill in one month, not the usual 6 weeks, because I find myself CRAVING food again. HELP -
Corgi, I don't know the date of my first fill, but this monday when I call the dr. for an update, I will tell him that I am still hungry. Maybe he will fill me soon. It has only been 10 days, so I guess I will have to wait a few more weeks. I had ricotta cheese tonight, mixed with spag. sauce and mozzarealla cheese, heated up, and it was like having baked ziti without the pasta. It was really good. Someone also said to mix refried beans, cheese and salsa. That was sad about our Pope, but he went quickly, and that is a good thing. Roseann

thanks corgi, i willgo to the food section, and yes it does feel good eating regular foods, but I do need a fill soon-am hungry after 3 hrs. Roseann

Wow, Corgi, good for you. I am 9 days past surgery, and only 6 1/2 lbs. The water weight is gone now.any ideas on what to eat for mushy foods that are not high in sodium? I had chili yesterday, and was up 1/2 lb. from the sodium in it. My tummy is still sore at the port site also. But I can feel it, it feels hard. Roseann

wow Porclndoll, you sure do have a busy summer coming up, and so many things going on. BUT you will have the engery(As I have been told) to do alot of stuff when you lose the weight. Good for you, and keep up this positive attitude. I got on the scale this a.m. and only lost .2 lbs. My honeymoon stage with the water weight loss is now over, and now the fat should start coming off, and this is the hard part. I only had 6 lbs. of water in me, so that was my first weeks total loss. I am a bit depressed, thought it would come off quicker the first 2 weeks, but I will not give up. I walked a bit yesterday at lunch at the dr. office that I work for(Plastic Surgeon in Scotchtown). So, that is getting me going now. TOday I will do the video Richard Simmons has out,I love him. I am off today from work, gorgeous sunny day so far. Have a good one, ok? Take care, talk to everyone soon. Roseann

Hi Jenna, good for you----11 lbs. wowee. I got banded on 3/22 and lost 6 1/2 lbs. since I got home from the hospital. That is an accomplishment for me, believe me. I started on pureed foods on monday, and am having a hard time getting all my water in. Could that be why I am hungry again after 3 hrs. of my meal? And also the reason my weight loss wasn't as great as yours, right? I will try today to drink more water. I am doing that now, before my coffee and breakfast. It is just hard planning my meal, and when to stop drinking. I have never been on a schedule before for eating. Also, any ideas on soft foods for this week? I pureed roast beef last night-no problems with any PB, but it is early.
