How did you handle telling everyone about your surgery
Twylad replied to vincereautmori's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like others posting here, I was unsure who I wanted to tell. I told my immediate family and my 2 best friends. I received nothing but the best from each of them. My parents did, however, tell all my aunts who then proceeded to pass it on to others in the family. I would have been happier if that had not happened, but, oh well. My parents also put me on the prayer list at their church, so a whole new batch of people knew. As you consider who to tell, just remember you can't count on their holding your information confidential. I am now 6 mos post-op. I've lost 78 pounds and 5 dress sizes so far. This is the best decision I've ever made for my health. I have not announced my surgery, but when asked how I have lost so much weight, I do tell people about my surgery. I've even recommended my doctor to one person who is contemplating the surgery. This is a very personal issue. Do what feels best to you. Wishing you much success! -
Sleeved August 12 & I've just broken through my second stall. My first came when I moved from liquids to soft foods. My second came when I moved from soft foods to all foods. This latest stall lasted 3 weeks and I thought I was going to sit in the floor and cry each morning. I searched My Fitness Pal entries looking for my daily mistakes, but couldn't find a pattern. I am so thankful to be back on the losing track again. Although my doctor assured me these stalls are natural, they certainly are no fun, especially when it lasts 3 weeks! I guess the trick is just...keep following the plan.

Constapation post sleeve advice please
Twylad replied to rcc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was over a week post-op for me. I became concerned, so I called my doc and he gave me permission to use Miralax, which did the trick. I've also been surprised by how much smaller my BMs now. (TMI?) -
I was so happy with my small victory today. I had a doctor visit, which, as always, began with a blood pressure check. In the past, the nurse has always had to use the large cuff. Today she didn't! The standard cuff fit and worked! Happy dancing in Texas.

I was sleeved 8/12/13. This was my first week off liquids and on to some soft foods. I'm a little frustrated because I've gained back 2 pounds. I keep telling myself it's ok because I've nearly doubled my caloric intake, but I'm still under 800 calories a day. Is this weight gain with "real food" a common occurrence?

How do you make the cheesy meatballs? Do you grate the cheese into the meat? I assume you bake? what temp and how long?

I was sleeved 8/12 & will finish my 3weeks of liquids this weekend. I get to start eating foods on Monday! My dr gave me a few meal ideas...tuna & 2 crackers, chicken & mashed sweet potatoes. Anyone have other meal suggestions for a "new eater"?

Thank you NMJG! I've read lots of posts about Greek yogurt & cheese sticks. Have you had encounters with either of those. I'm not a huge fan of baked fish, so I'm hoping chicken will be my friend.

The first week was a challenge. I'm still challenged each day to get at least 60 g of protein & 64 oz of water. I went back to work 1 week post-op. it hasn't been as hard as I expected. How are you doing?

Pre-Op Liquids Are Kicking My Toosh!
Twylad replied to AggieSleever's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I'm 1 week post-op so still on liquids for another two weeks. I'm so thankful my pre-op diet let me have 1 "meal" a day. The shakes are all so sweet just the thought of them makes me nauseous. Someone on another thread introduced me to Swansons flavor infused broths. I really like the Mexican Tortilla soup. There is also a Thai ginger & hot and sour. The provide enough flavor to cancel the sweet. -
IMy doc provided my tummy belt, and i have to admit it has been great. The belt provides the support I need to curb the pain on my left side & lower back. I was sleeved 8/12 and have had the belt on everyday since. I'm able to sleep without it. I'm not sure how much longer I should expect to wear it.

NMJG my husband came home from the store talking about the tortilla soup broth. Glad to hear it is a good choice.

Thanks NMJG. Your encouragement is helpful. I've started today with the resolve to drink more water. I'm still trying to figure out how to get in the protein and other foods and still get the water. It seems like drinking this much water is going to keep my stomach full at all times. I'm not a the place where I can tolerate 3 protein shakes a day- it just makes me nauseous. Still working...

I had my surgery Monday and spent Tuesday and Wednesday so nauseous I could not function. I describe it as morning sickness on steroids. I couldn't get anything other than water down- I even threw-up 3 times. OUCH! I'm feeling better today, so I'm trying to figure out an eating plan. I had 4 oz of protein shake this morning and 4 oz of bullion for lunch. I've been sipping on water, but not getting even close to the amount needed. I'm nervous to make myself sick again by putting too much in. Any ideas on an eating schedule that might relieve my nerves?
