  1. Congratulations on your speedy recovery. Enjoy not being hungry while it lasts. I am 2 week po and I am defnitely hungry! You're right, this is just a phase for recovery and soon you will be able to eat again. You will be able to eat regular food, just in smaller portions!

    question about burning sensation..

I have the burning sensation too...it is a few inches below my port. I have heard that eventually it will go away. I think it may be some nerve damage, but maybe it will heal itself. I am only 2 weeks po.

    Banded yesterday...have questions

Darr, Your dr should have given you some instructions to follow post-op. I got mine from my dr during my pre-op appointment. For clear liquids = anything you can read a newspaper through if you have it in a glass. broth, Water, flavored water, sf Jello.

    Southern Sweet tea!!!!!!!!!

Sweet tea is an addiction!! I have been having thoughts of it ever since I had my surgery. There is a restaurant here who serves it with pellet ice...and it is soooo good. My problem has always been that I can't just drink 8oz of it, I drink like a gallon. But now, instead I just get the unsweet and put splenda in it. I know it's not the same, but it's a good substitute! I always negotiate with myself... sweet tea or food? The food always wins over the drink in my case, lol.

How do you get over the head issues?

I am reading a book to try do "self-therapy" if you will. It's very good at helping us realize where the "head hunger" comes from and to try to get to the root of emotion/stress and express it in a way other than eating. It's called "Life is hard, food is easy". I ordered it from Amazon and it's really good.

    Grrrr! I'm annoyed.

I didn't really tell anyone either. Just my family knew. I did tell one girl at work AFTER the surgery. I knew from just being around people and hearing them talk crap about people who do wls, that most people wouldn't agree. Quite frankly, it's none of their business. It's sad that someone who you thought was your friend was so unsupportive. I have had the same kind of interaction with people over other things before. Screw her! You don't need a friend who is that unsupportive!!

    Just need to complain!!!

I hear you and I am right there with you!! I am so sick of eating soup and mushies. All I want is a sandwich!

    Burping...

I seem to have the OPPOSITE problem. I can't burb anymore. i have these weak attempts to burp but it just sounds like I am breathing hard. I fear the only way I was able to burp was from soda. Now that I can't drink soda...will I never burp again!!?

    Need To Vent!!!!

No, you are not overreacting. The most difficult part of this process is dealing with insurance, case workers and getting approved for the surgery! I absolutely HATED that part. ' The worst part for me is that a co-worker was doing it at the same time and he was approved in 3 weeks. It took me 3 months! It will all be worth it once you have your surgery! Hang in there!!
  10. That's the EXACT same sheet that I have. Except my dr didn't make me use Myocel-- they said I can use a protein shake at home if I already have one I like. I didn't have any diarrhea at all with this pre-op diet. It may be the protein shake. Or your body could be adjusting to the high protein diet. Either way, it should go away in a couple days.

    Fashion Divas

The best (and most expensive part) about losing the weight is getting new clothes!! A new mall is opening up about 2 miles from my house. I can't wait to shop in all the "regular" stores!!

    Finding a boyfriend/girlfriend on LBT?

LOL, I think this is a funny question. No, I have never met anyone from LBT and dated them. (I am married anyway). But, I have met a couple guys on the internet and dated them before. This was about 10 years ago. Good luck with your LBT love!:eyebrows:

    A Pre-Op Tip

I think it also depends on the anesthesiologist. I had abdominal surgery a few years ago and I told the anest. that I got naseous from all pain meds. BAck then I didn't feel sick at all. This time when I was banded I told the anesthesiologist and it was written on my wrist band that all pain meds make me naseous. However, after I awoke in recovery I almost threw up twice. Some dr's are better than others!
  14. Hello, My Dr said to try to get in 50-60 grams of Protein a day. Does that mean only w/in that range? Does it hurt if I have more? My Protein shake has 30 grams of protein and then after lunch. I've hit my limit. This means I wouldn't be able to eat for the rest of the day. TIA for your response!!
  15. Ok, I know I am about to sound like a hungry hungry hippo.... but..... I am 8 days PO. I am so hungry today and I think I am eating/drinking too much. Today I can start on mushies, but have mostly only had liquids. 1. 6 am, I drank a danactive yogurt at 6am (3 oz). 2. 8am, I drank a Protein shake (8oz) w/ 30 grams of Protein. 3. By 9:30, I am hungry, wondering when lunch will be. Soooo I eat a cup of broth w/soft vegetables. 4. By 11:30, I am hungry again! I make ANOTHER protein shake, hoping this will curb my hunger. 5. Now it is 3:00 and I am hungry again and want something. Am I out of control??? I am hungry every 2 hours. The good thing is that I am tracking my calories/protein/carb to make sure that I am not overdoing it on the calories, but I think I am hungry too much!

    September 07 Roll Call

So far I am 8 days post op and feeling good! Today has been the best day by far. I can almost reach my toes again (soreness in stomach is going away). I started on mushies today, had mashed potatoes for dinner. They were delightful. However, I can eat a cup before I get full. I think it's already time for a fill! Good luck to all the rest of the september banders!!

Was wondering about milk and cereal

Wow, that's a good question. I didn't even think of that. I can't to be able to eat cereal again!
  18. sugar free pudding, applesauce, yogurt.... My dr also allows soft vegetables, canned tuna or chicken, mashed potatoes, soft fruit, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, grits, soft Pasta (well chewed), Soup with noodles. I've only had soup so far.... I am kind of scared to try everything else. I am already so hungry...those other foods might push me over the edge!

    Just got a call..

Congratulations on your approval! i know the emotions you are going through. We all have a way of "beating up" on ourselves and talking down that you couldn't do it through traditional diet and exercise. Or that maybe you took the easy way out and you are defeated. Don't beat yourself up. Instead think of your decision and upcoming surgery as "SUCCESS!!!" Coming to this point in your life where you realize this is the best decision takes so much courage. It is not easy to admit this is the best way for you. You will do great! Through thick and thin this LBT board will be here for you!
  20. I have the same question... what they heck are all those noises!! Now I know FOR SURE that today my stomach was growling. Some on here say no, that is just some other noise. But I know it was....undeniably stomach growling bc I was hungry! Already!!
  21. I know the liquid diet is hard. BUT, Don't take diet pills!!! I was tempted to do the same, but you really shouldn't and here is why: Diet pills alter the way that your heart beats, raises your blood pressure & can stay in your system and alter the way you react to anesthesia. Being under for surgery next week, your heart is going to be struggling enough, why make it harder? Make sure you have a safe surgery and stay away from the diet pills! Don't do it!!

    Tomorrow's my day....

Congratulations on you big day!! I know exactly how you are feeling... I was feeling the same way before my surgery last week. I think it is a fear of change and not knowing what is on the "other side" of being banded. It's really not THAT much different, but it will take some getting used to. You'll like it - we all promise!
  23. Just look at a lot of people on here.. plenty have lost 90%. You can do it with the lapband. Sometimes I think that they just push the bypass bc they make more money. My Dad did the bypass 6 years ago and he has gained most of it back and stretched out his stomach.
  24. Hi, My dr is a very good dr. He has done over 500 lapbands and is a mentored by the top lapband dr in the world (some dr from australia, I forget his name). Anyway, i start on solid foods on day 15. week 1 post op is liquid week 2 post op is mushies week 3 post op is anything that is tolerated, full food. I know a lot of dr's are different, so it is just important for you to follow YOUR dr's instructions. Good luck!!

    Worried about Food

The new band has pockets where the saline goes instead of the band of saline The pockets help grip around the stomach so it is more even when you get fills and prevents slippage. I have seen a couple. Ask your dr to see one when you go to his office. Also, if you have lapband seminars in your area, they usually have a sample new band to pass around (if they have the new band).
