Bodybugg users report here!

I have had the bodybugg for 1 week and lost 6lbs since I started using it. I think seeing the results on the screen has really helped me, plus being held accountable for all food logging makes me think twice about eating something! I have a heart rate monitor I have used for a year and I loved it. This gadget takes it a step about...I love this thing!!

    New in NW Washington

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! In my personal experience, there was NO way I would have been able to go back to work in 2 days. I was planning on driving my MIL to the airport 2 days po and I was not able to. I have had major surgery before so I thought it would be simliar, but it wasnt'. The thing that threw me for a loop was the muscle pain bc they stitch the port to the muscle. I went back to work on day 7 and I was still sore. I couldn't pick something up off of the floor, it was difficult to get in/out of the car, etc. and that was day 7! I work an office job, I sit at a desk all day in front of a computer and in meetings. I found this to be very hard, bc I was uncomfortable so I had to keep leaving a day long meeting to walk around a bit. I ended up working from home 3 days that week. However, we are all different and I have heard of people who go back to work the next day. You might heal differently than I. Good luck!

    Unfriendly Friends

All of my real friends are normal weight. I have always been the fat one, so none of them are feeling jealous or in competition with me. I do have some acquaintances who have been very curious about my weight loss and seem to want to see me fail. they always try to feed me or get me to go eat with them. Your friend is just probably feeling the heat and said something she shouldn't have said. Since you have been bf for so long, I would let it pass. If she says something hurtful again I would confront her and let her know that its hurtful. If it continues I would distance myself. You are going through enough without having to feel guilty about losing weight!! My BFF for 17 years knew about my surgery and hasn't even called me since it was 6 weeks ago to see how it went. I guess she just assumes. She also has 4 small kids and is a busy mom, so I forgive her, but it does hurt that she hasn't even asked. She lives on the east coast, so we don't see eachother much (once a year). She weighs maybe 100lbs, so weight has never been an issue for her.

    Binge Eating?!

I had the same problem as you. I suffered from a variety of eating disorders and binge/compulsive eating has always been an old standby. During my mushies phase was when I started to eat more. At first, I just let it happen...then I gained 3 lbs during the mushies week and realized that I had to get some control. I have been reading a good book about the emotional reasons we eat called, Life is Hard, food is Easy by Linda Spangle and it's helped bc now I think about why I want to eat and what I'm feeling (mostly stress). I just got my first fill on Thursday and I can tell you that things are a lot different now. I can't binge eat...even if I try (and I did try). I had eggs this morning and I started eating really fast to try to get the eggs and ham in before I started to feel full. After just 1 scrambled egg I couldn't physically eat anymore bc of the pain in my stomach. I think when you have restriction you won't be able to eat enough to "binge" (on solid foods, at least).

    My 1st Fill!

Update: Today is the 3rd day after my fill and I definitely still feel some restriction. Yesterday we had a party at my house, so I snacked a little (grapes, strawberry) and for dinner we had roast pork. I started eating some pork, yummmy, then ate a little more (About 1.5 oz in total) Once the pork hit, I got this feeling of sudden fullness and a sharp pain in my chest. I stopped eating immediately and about 5 minutes later the discomfort passed. Also, I have been pretty much a vegetarian for the last 3 years. However, I am finding it difficult to stay away from carbs without eating at least some meat (there's only so many eggs I can eat!). So I started eating a little meat again.

    My 1st Fill!

Today was my first fill and I was sooo nervous! I didn't know what to expect so here it is blow by blow: They weighed me, took my blood pressure (which was the highest it ever was) and pulse. I think my BP was so high, bc I was so nervous! I don't like needles and a needle in my stomach sound especially unappealing. The dr. had me lie down on my back, lift my shirt and she was feeling around for the area to try to find the port. Every time I would wince, she knew she found it bc I am still tender in that area. Then she gave me novacaine to numb the area and then put the saline in. It didn't really hurt, it just felt like there was some pressure. She said that she gave me quite a bit of saline, so I should notice a difference. (I forgot to ask how much exactly). She said I had to go back on liquids for 2 days then on to soft foods for 2 days. She also gave me eating guidelines...less than 1000 calories a day, eat Protein first, veggies second & then I could have fruit. Pretty much avoid carbs. Wow, this is going to be hard! Honestly my surgeon gave me no instructions for eating, he just said to eat whatever I could when I went back on solid foods. I have to go back in 2-3 weeks for my 2nd fill. I am happy about the agressive schedule, bc I would like the weight loss to advance. That's it...it was pretty painless!! I will let you know how it goes when I actually have to eat something again. So far, only a little tightness in my chest and my stomach is excessively growling (it must know I am back on liquids- lol).

    dealing with emotions pre-op

I just did a ton of research, read these threads and talked about it ALOT with my hubby. For some reason the day of surgery I was not that nervous. I have had surgery one other time and I keep it together for my family. If they think I am nervous, they will be even more nervous, so I just play it cool and the comedian in me comes out. My surgery wasn't scheduled until 2pm, so in the morning I went to the spa for a mani/pedi. It was a nice way to start off the day and relax!

Ok...will I ever not be hungry.

Before my first fill (yesterday), I was hungry all the time. The dr told me yesterday to eliminate protein shakes, bc they won't fill me up. She gave me a very specific diet to follow, eating protein first and then veggies. No carbs. I hope I can do it!

    Numb area on stomach?

I am numb a few inches under my port, but this is from a tummy tuck that I had a few years ago. I never did get the feeling back in my lower abdoment or left upper thigh. No big deal though...I don't need to feel anything there!

My trip to the filling station

    Smoking

About 3 years ago I smoked everyday, then I gradually cut back to a couple times a month. I smoked occassionally before the band. About 1 or 2 times a month. It helped with eating (as you all know) I quit 1 week before the band and I haven't smoked since. I am going to try to stay off the cigarettes. When I initally quit, wellbutrin really helped me.

    My 1st Fill!

For breakfast, I ate an egg white from a hard boiled egg and it filled me up right away! yahoo!! Restriction!!
  16. I had the same. I went back to work after 7 days, but could have waited about 2 more days. You will start to feel better day by day until one day you all of a sudden feel 100 % again. That happened for me at about week 3. Just take it easy, you just had surgery and try to walk and drink your fluids. My back was killing me bc I was sitting in the same position. when i reconfigured my setup, I was not in pain anymore. I used a couple pillows to help me out. I didn't sneeze or cough until 3 weeks po. I held it in bc it hurt sooo bad. This was especially hard for me since I have bad allergies and sneeze everyday! You will be fine, it takes time. Good luck!

  19. Hello! I am 5 weeks out and I get a "sloshing" feeling when I think I eat too much. I don't get sick, I just get this yucky feeling. for example if I am sitting in my recliner which rocks, my stomach sloshes and makes very loud slosh noises on each rock.. Does anyone else experience this? What is is from? will it go away when I get my fill? It is really bizzarre.

    Itchy stretch marks question...

I had the same itchy...all around my belly & the scars. I memorized the scars on my stomach so I could itch like a maniac around them, even in my sleep. What helped me was to moisturize the area. It was itchy because it was dry (I am also slightly allergic to adhesive from the bandages). The moisturizer helped a lot and the itching has almost stopped completely.

I lost over 100lbs about 4 years ago and I moisturized religously everyday with Nivea for skin tightening. I think that it worked pretty well. The only thing is that stretch marks never go completely away, but they can get lighter and less noticeable. I also had surgery to remove the excess adominable skin and this removal of skin and fat actually removed the stretch marks (bc the skin was removed).
Oh yeah, and tanning works for some people too...however, it can work against some. When I tanned, my stretch marks blended in with my skin. I do have friends who have the opposite happen (they tan and their stretch marks get darker, pinker, or whiter and show up more than before).
  22. Hi, I am currently awaiting insurance approval for the past 3 weeks and I feel like I am on an everlasting "last supper". I usually am on a diet and try to eat kashi Cereal for Breakfast and a lean cuisine for lunch. However, now that I know I am going to have this surgery, I have been eating everything I know I won't be able to post surgery. Like I will stop at mcdonalds for breakfast, have chips with my lunch, and I have been drinking regular soda. Is this normal? I feel like I am out of control, but that I have a right to be bc any day I will have to start my 2 week pre-op diet. Any advice? Thank you! Martie DFW, Dr. Marsden

    pre-op liquid diet question

I think so. I (or my husband) made all soups from home recipes. They are much better than the canned stuff.
  24. I am in the same boat. I started feeling hungry at 6 dpo and my Dr. said this was normal. He said to expect to gain a few pounds and I did gain 3 lbs, but have lost it again. I hate this feeling of hopelessness...that I have yet tired something else and it is not working as I had hoped. I am sticking to 1200 cal a day, but the weight is not budging. Then again, I should be grateful for what has happened so far. I get filled next week...so I hope that I feel some restriction!!
  25. Hi, Just wondering how many of you frequently travel for work or personal and how you deal with sticking to the diet/protein when traveling? I travel for work quite a bit and I'm ok to focus on eating right and protein when I travel within the U.S. However, International travel is really hard for me. First of all, I don't do protein shakes, bc it is not easy to find milk. I am on the go a lot. and I hate water with my protein shake. Second, I am a really picky eater and eat vegetarian, so I end up eating a lot of salad and pizza (gasp) (bc pizza is internationally the same pretty much anywhere). I am in Europe this week and this is my diet every day: breakfast: water Lunch: salad Dinner: pizza I am soo good at home. Travelin always gets me. Also, will I not have this problem when I get a fill?!!:help:
