What is the average # of calories everyone burns on a daily basis? Also, has anyone seen the calories burned go down as they lose weight? I have noticed that I used to burn 13 calories per minute at some cardio and now I barely hit 10 calories per minute doing the same thing. If I exercise I burn about 3200-3600 calories a day. On days I am sedetary I burn about 2700 - 2900 calories.

    Hardest Habit to break?

Slowing down is definitely the hardest for me. I have had quite a few PB's since my 3rd fill and it is all due to not waiting 30-60 seconds in between bites. I have to be conscious of my eating now instead of just shoveling it in.

    scared of being thin?

I had the same thoughts before I was banded. I think obesity and self loathing cause a vicious cycle. I am overweight and have to remind myself that I am worth it. worth the time, being healthy and I am good enough to be skinny and not depend on my fat to be my buffer. Even now that I am banded, at first while I didn't have any restriction I found myself in an emotional battle... In my head thoughts that I didn't deserve to lose weight or be thin, crossed my mind. I found myself trying to self-sabotage and eat things I shouldn't. I have had to work through all of these issues. A good book I am reading that helps is called, "Life is hard, food is easy" by Linda Spangle. It helps to identify emotional eating and encourage self-worth. You are going to do great. I thought I would too fail, but just remember that it takes a few fills before you feel restriction and then the lbs will start to fall off.
  4. My hubby has lost some weight with me. About 5-10 lbs. He is still within his normal weight range for his height.

    At the airport!

Mellis, where are you going for your surgery!? Jazzy, Don't be jealous, the temps here in DFW are freezing... it's 35 where I live in N. Dallas. The worst part is I just got back from FL yesterday where it was a lovely 80! I want to go back!

    How often do you PB?

I got my 3rd fill last week and since then I have PB'd 3 times. I can only eat a couple bites and then have to stop. For Christmas dinner with 11 people we had filet mignon and I took 1 bite and had to excuse myself. How embarassing!!!

    Gaining before first fill :o(

It's normal what your feeling. My dr even told me to expect to gain some weight before my 1st fill and I was so upset by this because I had already gained 3 lbs the week after my surgery! It took about my 3rd fill (3 months) before I started to really lose weight and feel restriction. The band isn't a miracle and you are going to have to use some willpower during this time of "bandster hell" before you feel restriction. I had the same problem as you and was still eating ice cream and potatoes. I cut out the potatoes and started eating only lean Protein and salad. As for the ice cream, I only buy single serving ice cream, this way I don't overdo. I recommend the weight watcher ice cream products like the giant oreo cookie ice cream bar or they have single serving ice cream cups. These all have 140 calories. You can do it! Hang in there!

    What is wrong with me?

I was feeling the same way until I got my 3rd fill. Now I can barely eat anything and the pounds have started to drop. Before the fill, I had been around the same weight for 4 weeks.

    How did your Christmas go?

I was really worried about Christmas bc we were going out of state to my in-laws for 5 days. I had just had my 3rd fill on the 18th and I could barely take in a few bites. It was really awkward sitting at that big table for brunches and huge dinners and only being able to eat two bites and having to stop. I even got sick on 2 nights and had to excuse myself from the table to PB. So, I didn't eat too much real food .....but my MIL made 6 dozen cookies and I ate a few of them. They were the only thing I could eat. I am so glad I am back home and back to the gym!

Did losing weight make you look older?

I have only lost a little bit, but everyone tells me that I look younger!!
  13. Amazingly, I don't miss diet soda at all. I drank at least 6 sodas a day for 20 years, so I am sooo surprised that I gave it up so easily!!

    Peanut Butter Issue

I think as long as you stay on track and stick to your Dr's diet you will be ok.

    Exercise and Port Pain

No, exercise does not make it better. Just rest up. If you exercise too soon, you risk injuring yourself. Especially don't do any ab work before 6-8 weeks po. Good luck on your recovery!

    For those who have PCOS

Applesmith, There is something your doc can give you to make it stop, if you really want it too. Unfortunately, heavy periods come along with PCOS. The longer you don't she your lining, the more there is to shed. I used to only get my periods about 1-2 times a year. This means that I would bleed for about 40 days at a time!! I know, TMI, but its true!!!

    Keeping it a secret?

KiminMd, Congrats on your weight loss!! People are so rude! I know how you feel. Two weeks before my lapband surgery a co-worker and I were sitting in a meeting. I guess she thinks she is my "friend" said to me out of the blue, "Look at so and so...they have lost so much weight, you can too." I told her not to worry about me, I had it under control (knowing I was going in for surgery in 2 month). She then continued to badger me saying, "You are just making up excuses". Well, I was so pissed right then, but I was in a situation where I couldn't get away from her. BTW, she is thin as a rail and has always had problems putting weight on. Anyway, now it's almost 4 months after she said that and I have lost over 40lbs. I see her looking at me, but she doesn't say anything. I am sure that she thinks because of her "intervention" I finally decided to get control of my life. Please! For some reason, people think it's ok to give you advice about your weight. They always have with me.
  18. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

    Where is everyone from?

I live in Texas...just moved here from Florida a year ago.
  20. I had a problem (my port flipped), but I still love my band. If I had to do it again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I LOVEEE my BUGG!! I burn the most calories doing step aerobics. I burn about 12 calories per minute at my peak. Also I like spinning class and if it is intense I can burn about 10-11 calories per minute. Today I did a step class and spin class back to back and burned over 1,000 calories!! I have found though that the more I exercise the more efficient my body is becoming and I burn less calories doing the same thing. Interval training is key to keeping the calories burning for me.

3 mo out, how is everyone?

Hey everyone, thanks for the update. I also wanted to say that since my 3rd fill, I have lost 9lbs in 1 week! IT seems like it was just the thing that I needed for my body to respond to all this darn exercise I have been doing. I can only eat a couple bites and I have to stop. Not much, but I don't care. This Christmas will be interesting bc I am going to my in-laws in FL and EVERYTHING we do focuses around eating. and I can't eat much. plus not all of my extended family knows I had surgery. oh well. I also figured something out about the fills... I go to a after-care center and some of them are better at fills than others. When I got in the room, i told the nurse that I didn't want to see who I saw 2 times ago. He then told me that the most requested fill dr was "dr. soandso" and he said I could request her every time. Soooo... I did and I will...she is so good at finding the port. It is quick and painless.

    What is wrong with me?

Hey Mandi, Are you exercising? Your metabolism has probably just slowed down and you need to give it a boost. Also, try to cut out the carbs as much as you can...no bread, no sugar, no potatoes, pasta, etc. I see that you went to benavides who is in the same network as my dr. I will send you a pm. Please don't get discouraged. You can do this!!

    Motivate Me

I think they key is finding something that you like to do. Something that you consider fun. Now, I just hate working out at home, but when I watch TV, I lift dumbells or do some floor exercise with a tension band. I also walk/jog at home. I really prefer going to the gym and taking classes, that's what works for me and it motivates me. I go everyday. It's a habit and I love it. We have so much fun and its amazing how your body feels. I feel so good after I work out (endorphins released). You can do it..no more excuses. The "time" excuse is so worn out, I used to have that one perfected
