I don't think I know what I'm in for....
TulipStar replied to katie78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used to have reflux all the time before I was banded....all the time. It was mostly bc of the juink I was eating. I haven't had it since my surgery! 6 months and no reflux-- not once! -
How many incisions did you wind up with after surgery?
TulipStar replied to JennyC724's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
5 for me, but 1 has dissapeared so it looks like 4. -
I was always the HOT one. I always carried a fan in my purse so that I could fan myslef... haha. Now I am cold a lot. My hands are freezing right now as I type this. I have no idea why....but I figure if I am cold, then my metabolism is having to work harder to warm me up!

Non food substitutes when the munchies hit
TulipStar replied to tapshoes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I chew gum or down a lot of Water. Also, I try to address the issue at hand. Eating for me has always been emotionally driven, so I have to take a step back and ask myself what I am really feeling and why I feel the urge to eat. I used to snack all day long.... because I was stressed, etc. Stuffing my emotions is what I was trying to do. -
My first reaction is "leave Carnie alone". I have been there...lost a lot of weight, had plastic surgery to remove excess skin and then I gained it back. I know how she must be feeling. It is possible to gain back the weight with any weight loss surgery. My Dad had the bypass 7 years ago and put back on about 100lbs of what her originally lost. He eats a lot of ice cream, eats in the middle of the night, and grazes all day. It's possible, that's why you have to be right emotionally.

How does it feel when out with frieds
TulipStar replied to big dawg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's not so much out with friends that I feel self-conscious as with co-workers in social situations. I travel a lot and have to eat with co-workers (sometimes strangers and clients). A lot of times I feel embarassed, self-conscious because it is very evident that I don't clean my plate like others. I get a lot of comments like, "you don't like your food? You aren't hungry? Are you feeling ok?" etc. It's ok if its just one meal, but if I eat several meals with the same people, they really notice that I don't eat much at all the meals. -
No, not really. I wish it were easier. I have restriction, but I still have to make choices. Of course the band helps A LOT so that I can't pig out on pizza or fast food. We all have different metabolism, etc. so some of us have to work harder than others. I honestly feel that I am one that has to work harder by exercising a lot, etc.

Doc says, "It won't work unless you make a lifestyle change"
TulipStar replied to angelsoul's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I will say this: It hasn't been easy. Some people I know who have the band never exercised and lost 100lbs in 6 months (damn that lucky man!)...some people try and try and the weight comes off slowly. I personally exercise 6-7 days a week for at least an hour every day and I do this because I am a slower loser. If I don't work out, I don't see results. I can stay at the same weight for weeks at a time or I even start to gain weight. I guess my point is that it is easier for some than others, and yes, you are going to have to work at this... emotionally, physically, dive right in because it's your life! The band is just a tool, you have to make it work for you. It will help you to lose weight as long as you don't try to sabotage yourself and you can...by eating soft foods all the time or liquids like lots of chocolate, ice cream/milkshakes, etc. The best part of the band is that it gives you that jump start kick of motivation that most people need. -
Never has happened...ever. All around the world, all through the U.S. In Europe they even do extra wanding for "fun" and it never goes off as they pass it over my stomach.

I agree about AIGB (now True Results)/Lapband solutions. I used Dr. Marsden. He is awesome.

How often do you vomit/PB?
TulipStar replied to mandi78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Kimmie K, I could never imagine making myself puke with the band. when something wants to come up (PB), it just comes up, there is no forcing it. I guess you could still do it the old fashioned way, but who wants to do that? Throwing up too often can cause complications such as band slippage which requires surgery to correct. -
How Many FILLS BEFORE YOUR 1st Restriction
TulipStar replied to LovingWhatIs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Fills 1-3 I felt slight restriction. However at fill 4 & 5, I really felt it. -
I almost bought a trikke once! I used to see them all the time when I lived in FL, but haven't seen them since I moved to TX. I was just thinking about them the other day, wondering if they were still around...

Innertube, yes you can eat it when you can eat solids.

I HAVE to post this recipe bc it is sooo sooo sooo delicious. Even though I can't eat chicken much anymore, this is so moist with the sauce, you shouldn't have a prob. Trust me, you will love this and so will your whole family. You can even take the final product and use it as a stuffing for burritto's, etc for the family. (of course I can't eat tortilla, but my DH loves it). 4 chicken breasts 1 jar of salsa 1 cup of frozen corn (or you can use canned corn) 1 can kidney Beans Put all ingredients in a crock pot. Cook for 10-12 hours on low. Falls apart and is so delicous. I sprinkle a little cheese on top when I serve it. Also, if you are looking for a quicker meal, you can put all ingredients into a pressure cooker and it is done in 20 minutes. YUMMY.

How often do you vomit/PB?
TulipStar replied to mandi78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Mandi Usually 1 time per day (and it's always if I try to eat too early). I can't tolerate food before about noon. Are you chew chew chew chew chewing? That might help. Also, be careful of the types of food you are trying to eat. -
Pre-banding Feed Frenzy....
TulipStar replied to HarleyGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, what you all are feeling is totally normal!! I was like a hoover vac trying to inhale everything before my surgery. I gain weight really easily and gained just over 20lbs in two months!! My Dr. did have a pre-op diet but it was just for 1 week and you could eat real food for breakfast/dinner and had a Protein shake for lunch. I only lost 7 lbs on the pre-op diet. -
It's a 16oz jar of salsa. You can add more if you like it a little soupier.

TulipStar replied to LAEXGORDITA's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, I had to have revision surgery to re-stich my port after it flipped. I dont' know how it flipped, but it just came undone about 2 months after surgery. -
What you are describing sounds like you need a fill to me...
