OUCH! I have never had broken ribs, but I just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery!
-
I think that snacking is an effective way to do it. In the past my meal plans have been a schedule of meals like: Breakfast at 7 (cereal, oatmeal) 150 cal Snack at 10 (yogurt or apple) 100 cal Lunch at noon (salad, protein) 200 cal Snack at 3 (popcorn or apple) 100 cal Dinner at 6 (protein and veggies) 300 cal Dessert at 7 (WW dessert) 140 cal Eating like this is supposed to boost your metabolism. However, I havne't been able to do this since the lapband. I try to stick to 3 meals but can't do breakfast or morning snack anymore.

Any Other Newbies Scared of Gaining During the Different Diet Phases?
TulipStar replied to Miki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very afraid....and I did gain. When I started the mushies phase I gained 3 lbs starting week 2 po. It happens, but it will come off. My surgeon told me to expect some weight gain bc the metabolism is adjusting from liquid to mushies to solids. I was so mad at first, but realized that it quickly came back off. -
Trouble telling my therapist
TulipStar replied to PennyLane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IF she is a good therapist she would never try to talk you out of it. She would listen and talk to you about your reaons for doing it but should never judge you. Tell her. Good luck! -
Help me find a D/FW pychologist
TulipStar replied to bard4fun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Bard. I have a excellent therapist who has really helped me with emotional aspects of my eating. She is far as she is in McKinney (45 min from me and I live near Denton). If she isn't too far from you and you would like more info, send me a PM. -
Let me preface by saying I mean this in the kindest way with no disrespect whatsoever. This is a tough one. How tall is she and how much does she weigh? I agree with some on here that you should really help her by finding out why she is doing the eating. Otherwise it could be the wrong message that something is wrong with her and she needs to diet or be thinner in order for people to love her or herself. This could turn into a lifetime struggle or lead to worse eating disorders. I am just talking from my perspective from my experience. I started dieting young -- before I was 10 and my first reaction was "something's wrong with me" and "I'm not good enough". By the time I was 11 I had developed a serious eating disorder and no one ever knew. I never had a clue until recently that all this weight was emotional weight that I had been carrying as a burden since my childhood. And the line "I succeed in all other areas of my life except for my weight" is classic perfectionism/eating disorder. I have always said that too. What I found was that because something else was bothering me and I didn't want to feel emotion, I always focused on losing weight, dieting, etc. I was obsessed bc if I obsessed about diet/weight it I wouldn't worry about what was really bothering me. I recommend reading "Don't Diet, Live It!" It really hit home with me...it was written by some counselors who have a decade or so of experience with women w/eating disorders and perfectionist traits. It was so spot on...I couldn't believe there are people out there who felt this way (even though I didn't know I felt that way at first). It is in chapter/workbook format with exercises and really fixes on healing the reasons why we emotionally eat and when it started in our childhood. Good luck on your journey and with your daughter!

I was losing 3 lbs a week but now that has slowed to 1 to 2 lbs per week. I do cardio 6 days a week for 1-2 hours each day. I also weight train 3 days a week for 45 minutes.

I had port revision...it was a lot easier than actual first lapband surgery. I'm glad you insurance covers it! Good luck!
-
Yes, it's the anesthesia that is the risk...not the actual surgery. I was a little scared...but not of dying. I was scared of not being able to eat. lol I figured "if it's my time to go, it's my time to go".

Who is that girl? Is it really me?
TulipStar replied to mumof2boys's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WOW! Who IS that girl??? You look great!!! -
Sounds like you ate too much or ate too fast. How did you get the pain to go away? Where was it and how long did it last?
-
I take gummy vites childrens chewables, twice per day. I also have a prescription chewable from the dr that i just started taking.

How did you decide on a goal weight?
TulipStar replied to tonyahebert's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Those charts are right IMO. I decided to use the BMI scale. I am 5'5 and to get my BMI to a 25, I should weigh 150. That's how I set my goal. -
I wouldn't lie, I just wouldn't say anything. At first I was really secretive...only told a choice few people (even that was hard to do). Then after surgery I started telling more and more people...I am not ashamed. It wasn't and hasn't been easy. If people don't like it, screw them. They are not you and don't know what you go through.

Intolerance to heat/does it change?
TulipStar replied to Catalystmb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to always be hot. To the point where I would always carry a fan in my purse for those times when it was unbearable. I don't have a thryoid prob. I only had my surgery 7 months ago so I have been going through the winter and haven't experienced summery yet. However, I have noticed that I am more cold now then I used to be. A lot of my "insulation" has gone away  -
going on holidays with the band
TulipStar replied to andreerichards1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I fly on long flights it definitely makes me tighter. If I fly within the U.S., I am usually OK, but when I go to Europe/Asia there seems to be some swelling associated with the pressure/altitude that ruins my eating for the trip. -
Exact causes are unknown... Mine flipped, it came unstitched from the muscle.

I have dealt with emotional eating for a long time and I always knew I was doing it, however not so much until I started asking myself before I reached for food if I was really hungry? If not, what was really bothering me. Do you realize when you are emotional eating? A major part of the battle is realizing that you are doing it so that you can recognize the emotion you are having. Then you have the choice to do the "R.E.D" which is 1. "Recognize" the emotion you are having and why you are trying to stuff it with food 2. "Express" the emotion you are having by other methods (crying, journaling, talking) 3. "Direct" the emotion you are having towards the person you are having it for. You may still eat with any of these actions, however when you start realizing that you are emotionally eating, that is half the battle so you can catch yourself. I have been doing this and it has gotten easier.
-
Yes, you are correct. You have to make the choice to make it work for you. There is risk of no results with any diet, weight loss surgery, etc. Those who do not have success know truly in their hearts if they are giving it their all or not.

Hi Puddin, There are quite a few bandsters who have their port moved to their breastbone area. One that I know of is Laura (FairyFacade). I am sure that she would be willing to tell you about it if you PM her.

Yeah, I burn a lot less since I have lost weight too. That is the part that stinks! I had to move my target down from 3300 calories burned to 2700 I think you have to sync it first to be ready to use. Can't you just plug it into your computer?
-
Yes, I think that the owners manual/apex site recommend that you wear it consistently all day/night (Except water activities/showering) for the first 7 days .
-
I schedule mine every 3-4 weeks and I usually keep them because it takes about 2-3 weeks to get in!
-
That is an awesome NSV!!! Congrats!
