Today's weight - 157.6 That puts me down 3.2 for the week, and .6 away from my Memorial Day goal. Woohoo! :-)

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

I just started running outside this week. Up until now I completed the C25K program but I did it all in the gym on the treadmill. My 5K is June 1st so I figured I need to start running outside. It is VERY different and much harder in my humble opinion. Even though I was running 3 miles on the treadmill, the first time I ran outside I only got 1.7 miles. It was just a lot different. That and the fact that it is all hills where I live, so no where nice and flat to run. Hopefully I will be ready in only 2.5 short weeks! I'm super nervous. I don't even care at all about my time. I just care that I finish it and that I run it. Luckily the course itself is pretty flat.

My goal for next year is the Pittsburgh 1/2 marathon. I'm from Pittsburgh originally and it's always been a huge goal of mine (and totally out of reach until now) to the Pbg 1/2 marathon.

    Hit the gym...

Good job! I know sometimes it is a chore to get there, but after you work out don't you feel great?? Like you accomplished something to help yourself. I am actually a much better mom and wife on the days I get to work out :-) For me it also has been the difference in breaking through when my weight loss slows down. If I really get slow, I up the running / cardio and it usually jump starts it in no time! Oh I also wanted to add that the first 2 weeks I was SUPER sore, but that passed and I don't really get sore anymore.
  6. Here are my numbers. I had 133 pounds of excess weight to lose 1 month - 246 - 32 lbs lost - 24% excess wt. lost 3 months - 214 - 63 lbs lost - 47% excess wt lost 5 months - 189 - 89 lbs lost - 70% excess wt lost 7.5 months - 158 - 120 lbs lost - 90% excess wt lost

    TOO SKINNY

Yep, people always feel welcomed to give their opinion regarding my weight for some reason. lol. My mom likes to throw around the word "anorexic" which really infuriates me. I just NOW hit the "normal" BMI range, and I have about 13 more pounds to go to get to goal, which is well within the "normal" weight range and NOT under weight. Usually if someone at work will say something like that I should stop losing - or imply that - I just say....well, I guess i hide the extra weight well. :-)
  8. Congratulations! That is remarkable! I'd love to see your before and after pics!

    It's the little things...

I think at first everyday I was discovering new "non-scale victories!" It's very exciting!! Congrats on your journey!! I think one of the best unexpected "NSV" for me has been how everyone has commented on how much younger I look now. I definitely wasn't thinking necessarily of looking younger as a benefit of losing weight. :-) But I'll take it!!!
  14. I had a moment about a week before surgery when I kind of started freaking out a little..... But it helped me to just go back and remind myself of all the reasons why I chose to have the surgery. Also know that the pre-op diet and the first couple of weeks after the surgery can be difficult emotionally. Prepare for that and just know that it does get way better and life will return to a "new" normal very soon! Good luck to you!

So...question for you all. What pace are you doing C25K at? I'm on week 8 day 2 and I usually do 4.5 and I'm only getting about 2.3 miles. With one more day left I'm not thinking I'm going to be at the 3.1 for the 5K. I guess I need to up my pace...... Thoughts?
  16. I started out my 6 month pre-op program thinking RNY for sure. About half way through my requirements I started to have serious reservations. What I realized was that it wasn't surgery itself that was giving me pause, but specifically the malabsorptive part of the procedure and re-routing of the intestines, etc. I realized that I could get all the benefits of the surgery without doing all of that by choosing the sleeve. So I changed my procedure to the sleeve about half way through and never doubted it after that point. In the back of my mind I was afraid i maybe wouldn't lose as much with the sleeve, but as you can see from my ticker, I've lost almost 120 pounds in under 8 months, so I am a strong believer in the sleeve. For me it was a tool to give me a jump start and what I did with it after that was up to me. :-) Good luck in making your decision.
  17. I think that is a pretty normal thing to feel. We've all tried & failed countless diets or we wouldn't have the surgery... It's normal to be a little afraid if that. Just stick to the plan & your sleeve will work for you & with you :-)

    How Many Calories @ Day?

I'm 7.5 months post op & avg about 600/day. Long term my surgeon says 800-1000 once I reach goal & reach maintenance
  19. One of the big indicators on this journey has been my BMI. When I started this journey -and at the time of surgery- I had a BMI of 43.6 and was classified as "morbidly obese". Those words were a wake up call. And a "normal" range of 25 seemed SO FAR away! But 7.5 months and a LOT of changes and hard work later, I weighed in this morning to see that I've reached a BMI of 25 which is classified as "normal".....not overweight.....not obese....not morbidly obese.....but "normal". I kind of hate the word "normal" so what's even better than being normal?? BEING HEALTHY! So I'll say that I'm so thrilled to have a "healthy" BMI! Along with my most recent before/after pic just for fun :-)

    Work is killing me!

That is TOUGH. I agree work can be a tempting place. Luckily my office is a little further away from the main office where all the goodies are. For me one thing that helped was making it known that I was giving up sugar, carbs, snacky stuff altogether. After a while people stop offering to you. And the other added bonus - at least for me -- is that the temptation to take it if it's sitting there is less because EVERYONE KNOWS I am not eating that kind of "junk" so I feel accountable. If I were to take something I would know that it would definitely be noticed. So a little self-imposed accountability never hurts! :-)
  23. That's great! Rewiring my brain was really the hardest part for me. Also, learning that there are just some things that are trigger foods and I just can't touch them. Keep up the good work and self-control and you will see awesome results!
  24. For me it was similar to what I experienced after childbirth....it would come out if I ran my fingers through my hair or brushed it or in the shower. I noticed definite thinning along the hairline and top, but never a bald spot or anything like that. Also, I'm sure that I thought it was way worse than other people....I don't think others really noticed it.
