    Constipation

Hey all! So I'm 10 days post op and I have terrible constipation. Ive only had 2 BM post op, and both have been relatively painful. I've been taking colace at night but it doesnt seem to help. It seems like my Dr's diet progresses much quicker than everyone else's. Since the 4th post op day I've been on "full liquids" which on their list includes: mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, refried bean, pudding, grits, eggs, oatmeal, and several other things that really aren't full liquids. Knowing that I could hurt myself if I proceed too quickly I've made sure everything I consume is watered down to a liquid consistency. I'm wondering if the progression of my diet has anything to do with this. TIA for any advice :-) -A

What are the kitchen MUST HAVES?

Other than the stuff above. You may want to take a robe since you'll be walking the halls. I would ask the nurse to saline lock my iv so I could use my robe and walk comfortably. And I also bought a clip on desk fan at target for $10 ( it's with the dorm stuff). It was an incredible idea. I clipped it onto the side rail so it could blow in my face. The pain meds made me really hot. As well as when the anesthesia was wearing off and when I started drinking Water I would get nauseas... The fan helped. I also asked the nurse to leave me several alcohol pads in the room. Smelling it when you feel nauseas really helps. I would carry alcohol pads with me when I was walking the halls (started doing this after I gor nauseas walking and had to stop at a random nurse's station and ask her for some). Good luck!
  3. We're right around the same post op time frame! I, too, get very hungry still. And I think I've said this in every post possible... I can eat more than the "3bites" everyone talks about. Definitely not nearly as much as before, but way more than 3 bites. Anyway, I feel ya! For dinner, you should maybe make yourself a one egg omelet. I have found them to be incredibly filling (and I hated eggs preop). I add a capful of milk to the eggs and it makes them fluff nicely. 1 egg, seasoning, a tiny bit of cheese, and a sauce (salsa, marinara, etc) this should fill you up and be tasty. Plus you won't feel like you're going over your calories bc of a bar that left you hungry :-(that's got to be the worst feeling. ::hug:: Follow me on instagram if you have an acct. My user name is: andry919. I'd love to buddy up since we're I similar stages. Good luck. -Andry
  4. I've been constipated since surgery 2 weeks ago, and I've been taking stool softeners every night. They seem to help produce a BM every 2 or 3 days. Well it seems that even with the stool softener I have developed a fecal impaction. I'm supposed to return to work tomorrow so I need to make this all better tonight. I've taken milk of magnesia and used glycerin suppositories. I passed some of the impaction very painfully and even had to digitally remove some of it (I'm in nursing school so I've learned to do this and had gloves). However, part of the impaction is still there. Any suggestions? I'm feeling miserable for the first time since my surgery and have no clue what I should do. T.I.A.

    Fecal Impaction... tmi... HELP!

Thank you! I'm going to check it out. Tea is probably much better than drinking mag citrate. I really appreciate everyone's help.

    I made a mistake

At least you were at a gathering... I feel like I need to start seeing the therapist to work on how I deal with food and my marriage. I feel like you felt pretty much everytime my husband eats. I about died a few days ago when he was going to make 4 corn dogs. I don't want to be the food police so I know I need to learn to deal with this.

    Shower

Only? That's an incredible loss!!! You should be proud of that. Remember this is a process not an overnight fix. Just be patient and stick with it. You're doing great!

    Fecal Impaction... tmi... HELP!

The mineral oil enema didn't seem to really help, but the mag citrate seems to be doing the trick little by little. I'm already feeling better. Still bloated, but that will pass when everything passes.

    Sleeping possition

I didn't have much pain after surgery. I slept propped up for 3 nights, then on my side with a pillow applying pressure to my belly for about 2-3 nights, and then one morning about a week after surgery I randomly woke up on my stomach. Been sleeping like that again since. The only thing is that I cant really strain too much to get comfortable... The stretching of my belly feels uncomfortable.

    The infamous 3 week stall

I'm at 2 weeks and it feels like I'm at a stall... Then again I'm suffering from terrible constipation. It's probably our bodies adjusting. I've recently learned the importance of fiber. Take your fiber and tons of water daily.

    Shower

The PCT offered me a shower the morning after surgery. They unhooked my IV and covered it so I could shower comfortably. It seriously felt heavenly to shower.

    Fecal Impaction... tmi... HELP!

Soooo the lady at walgreens looked at me like I was crazy. I spent $30 on poop things. I got magnesium citrate, mineral oil enema, saline fleet enemas, miralax, and fiber chews.... Add to that the milk of magnesia and glycerin suppositories my hubby got me yesterday. I'm desperate y'all! Hope this works. Thank you all for all your tips and advice. Lots of Love!
