    Mind Games

Dinky thank you. I have had a similar experience. Losing slow due to taking 5 mgs of prednisone daily. As long as I dont gain. I exercise as much as I can AND I am encouraged.

    Skin breakout

Hi, I was sleeved on September 23, 2013. I started breaking out as well. I started itching and there were a lot of blemishes on my skin. First I thought is was from mosquito bites but soon realized something else was doing it. It was the surge in the amount of milk based Protein I was consuming. What I had was a slight reaction to the whey protein. I have always used the Atkins shake for Meal Replacement but never had a problem. Pre-op I was consuming 3 of the Pure Premium shakes which have 30g of whey protein. Since the operation I have tried to hold back on the Protein drinks to one per day. My doctor presribed something for my skin and I can definitely tell the difference. I still maintain my 60+ per day of protein just not from all shakes.

    African American Sleevers

Hello Sistahs and Brothers: Sleeved on September 23rd! and doing great! I was amazed that I had no complications but I should have expected no less when I put my trust and faith in God. My hospital stay was a wonderful. Virginia Hospital Center is the best!!! A sarcoidoisis survivor I had no complications what so ever. I am down 17 lbs. so far. The pain has eased up and I am anxious to get into the gym but for now I will stick with walking everyday. Not off the steriod though but down to 5 mgs. This seems to make my weightloss slower but that's okay too. So to those of you who are getting ready to be sleeved ... you are in my prayers!

    1 Year 3 Months Before & After

Gurl, you look good. You have done a phenomenal job! Be proud of your dedication and commitment.
  6. Hello September 23rd Sleevers: I had my surgery on September 23 as scheduled! I am blessed and happy to report that so far this has been a great experience for me. Virginia Hospital Center is the best! I know now why they are rated #1 for Bariatric Surgery in the USA!. My surgeon and the team of residents and nurses were second to none. We had concerns because I have sarcoidoisis, diabetes and asthma. But I had no serious issues. The only issue that came up was the first pp did not start until Wednesday:). I have 4 very small incisions on my stomach and of course one port hurts more than the others because thats where the stomach was removed. I have pain but it is manageable with liquid medications. My taste buds seem to be in tact so far. I am very confident with the decision that I made to have the surgery and have it at this hospital. Thanks to everyone for your posts because you all have helped me get this far. I'll keep you posted. Linda
  7. My surgery is September 23rd at 12 Noon. I've been on a clear liquid diet and have had no problems. In fact, I am feeling great. I am falling in love with the nectar brand Protein powders (especially the Roadhouse Lemonade and Fuzzy Navel). I mix with the Wyler's Light singles or Crystal Light and it tastes really good. I also like the Pure Protein shakes and the Atkins Cafe Caramel. I have 1/2 cups of SF Jello already made up! My Will and Health Directive are done and tucked away. No drama, should have updated my papers a long time ago. Looking forward to my surgery and praying for a good experience. There is no turning back for me. This is it and I am ready. I don't worry because I trust God so I can't wait until Monday. To my fellow September 23rd Sleevers, sending prayers up for you all! God knows how much we want and need this surgery so he will take good care of us.
  8. Today I start my pre-op diet which consists of 7-10 days of liquids: High protein shakes (up to 6/day), water, sugar-free drinks, sugar free jello, sugar-free popscles and broth. I resisted the "last supper syndrom". So proud of me today. The pure protein (35 mg) was not as bad as I thought. My sleeve surgery is September 23rd and I will be on clear liquids until two weeks after my surgery. So far so good. God is good!
  9. I start my pre-op diet in a week and I am dreading the feeling but I have waited a long time for this. I do take up to 600mgs per day of chromium (as recommended by my holistic doctor) on a regular basis. I don't even know if I will be able to take it up to the surgery. You gave me some questions to ask. Chronium definitely does help keep the hunger away. Also, drink water plenty of water and hang in there. I think you thought about it (eating) and you chose healthy choices. But, there is a reason you can't eat before your surgery. They need to decrease the size of your liver so that when they perform the surgery the liver will not be in the way. So, its for your health and wellness. Remeber that as you run these last few miles of the journey. You will make it!

    Vaginal Yeast infections

I had have had trouble with yeast infections in the past because I was antibiotics for a long period of time. My doctor suggested I take acidophilius and it worked. I have not had one in years. But I take acidophilius and eat yogurt frequently. Make sure the yogurt you eat is plain or the one you stir up from the bottom. I use a low sugar preserve and it tastes just as good. Cranberry juice is good but not the Ocean Spray you have to get the natural cranberry juice with no sugar added. Its quite sour so I did better with the pills and the yogurt. Driink your water!!! Reduce your sugar intake as well. Hope this helps.

I just want everyone to know.

What size was the Nectar that you purchased. I'm a newbie and still researching products:). I found the Nectar Protein for $32.99 at www.vitacost.com. Have you tasted anymore flavors? Does it mix well (expecially On The Go)?
  12. So, from what I am reading some of you have stated that you don't think you will have to be on a liquid diet for a period of time. I thought that being on the liquid diet was the standard. I have to be on liquids 7-10 days before and for two weeks after surgery. Pureed foods are next but only if I am approved to do so. I'm just gonna do what they tell me I don't want any problems. 09/23/10 my day!
  13. Hey! I am scheduled for surgery on September 23rd at Virginia Hospital Center. I am excited. Can't wait to start this new chapter of my life.

    African American Sleevers

Hello, my sistahs. Lord willing I will have my sleeve on September 23rd. Looking now for the best protein shakes that have over 30 grams of protein and is tolerably tasteful. The shots are an option but I guess I will have to try them for myself. I am already taking biotin because I too worry about hair loss. AND, I may purchase me some hair.
