  1. Hi all, I'm Sherry from WV, I'm 50 and was sleeved July 17th. My highest weight was 333 and I am now at 294. My biggest problem has been my emotions. I thought I was well prepared for surgery but my emotional response to it floored me. I know I needed to take drastic measures, I could tell that my mobility was decreasing, I have sleep apnea and hypertension. I wanted to be more active with my grandkids, etc. about a week or so after surgery I started to have theses horrible night sweats, would wake up in a total panic. Thoughts going through my head like I had ruined my life etc. thankfully the sweats have stopped and I am mainly having some anxiety now, worrying about making my everyday life work around the sleeve. Stuff like, if this happens will I still be able to get my water and protein in. Did anyone else feel this way? I'm struggling with water anyway so maybe that makes it worse. I tell myself that I hope as the days and weeks go by that it will get better.
  2. Hi everyone. I was sleeved on July 17th, I have about 144 lbs to lose. This first month has been hard, while I havent had any complications it has kinda done a whammy on my emotions. My biggest problem is that I have a lot of anxiety about getting all my water and protein in. My question to you all is, when did it all seem to become routine in your life? I hate it being the first thing I think about in the morning. I feel like it has taken some of the spontanaity out of my life, but maybe that's just because it is still new. I am however, beginning to enjoy the smaller me. I did this because I am 50, and I was getting so big I just wanted to sit at home so I wouldn't have to walk and get out of breath.
  3. Hi everyone I started out walking in the cemetery and park, a mile per day. Last week I joined the local gym and have been doing the treadmill and bike. I have had trouble with shin splints so I didn't do the treadmill last night but did five miles on the bike. I really don't know how to use any of the Nautilus equipment and they don't have trainers. The elliptical kicks my butt, can't do but a few minutes. I ordered a step aerobics DVD, I'm not brave enough to go to a Zumba class yet. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Work out advice appreciated

Thanks for the advice everyone. I did ten miles on the bike yesterday and felt really good about that. The gym is only open 1-3 today and if it isn't crowded I'm going to do some ellipitical today also.
  5. I don't think 50 is late in life! I did this because I wanted to live to see my grandchildren grow up, I was so heavy I was afraid I was going to die. I am a bit jealous of the younger ones who seem to be losing faster but I already feel 100% better! I'm down 59 lbs from my highest weight.

    Walking the treadmill

I am walking the treadmill and riding a stationary bike. I still love walking outside but I see your point about distractions. I wish the treadmills at the gym I go to had a place to prop a magazine or my tablet because I tend to watch the stats and I think it would go faster if I didn't do that. The main thing I like about the treadmill is that I can control the speed, incline, etc. I'm just starting at the gym and tonight I did a mile on the treadmill and three on the bike.

Sounds like you are doing great. I totally understand the reasons you did this. I was at 333 and getting less active every day. Good luck!

  14. Hi everyone, I was sleeved July17th and everything went ok. I will be starting soft foods this week and I am getting my protein in through shakes. I am still struggling with water but I am slowly increasing. My biggest problem is anxiety, or just a feeling of loss of control. I could use a pal that understands the after surgery emotions.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Hi everyone, I am a Family Nurse Practitioner in WV, I worked cardiac as a RN for seven years and before that was a LPN. I was sleeved on July 17th, physically everything went fine, especially after the J P drain was removed. For the first week after surgery I was waking up with horrible night sweats and av terrible feeling of panic or anxiety. The sweats seem to be gone, thank God but I am still having some anxiety. Everything seems a little overwhelming, I'm getting my protein in through shakes, building up my water intake, struggling a little with food. I think it has helped me to go back to work but I know there will be crazy days there that make trying to eat and drink hard.
  18. I was sleeved 7/17/13 and I have been a roller coaster of emotions. At first I was waking up at night in a hot sweat just feeling in a total panic, I would think "omg I ruined my life". That has seemed to be a little better. I did wake up this morning feeling anxious, no sweats just general anxiety about getting all my protein and water in. I went back to work last week and that has helped, but in the midst of my first week back I had a bad reaction to Cipro and my feet swelled and that made work hard. I can't put my finger on exactly what I am anxious about, I think it is just a huge change and I want so bad just to feel normal. Anyone else go through this?
  19. Hi! I was sleeved July 17th and am set to start my soft diet Wednesday. Currently I am drinking 3 Unjury shakes per day for a total of 66 grams of protein. While I think they taste good I am getting a little tired of them and would like to eat some protein, or at least cut down one of my shakes per day. I have even thought of this, usually I mix one scoop of Unjury with 4ozs 1% milk, I wonder if it would be better to mix 2 scoops with 8ozs and sip over a longer period of time just to get two out of the way?
