1 week and significant muscle loss !
ScottsGirl replied to TheDue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG! No Protein or Vitamins the first week?! This is SO crucial in recovery, especially for maintaining muscle. I am seriously blown away by this and would be interested to know if anyone else is. You should def make sure that you get in at least 80 grams of protein a day according to most bariatric post-op diets (80-120 grams) AND take a multi-Vitamin. You should be able to regain your muscle deficit within a few weeks, especially if you have started short walks yet; just don't overdo it. I've been using 1lb dumbells for my arms while I lie in bed watching TV, the doc said it was fine. Please let us know the outcome, I hope you get the muscle back quickly! -
Party on!!!

Don't know any homemade, but Premier makes them with 30 grams of Protein, and Walmart carries one exclusively that has 20 grams... BOTH very low sugar! The one at Walmart (peanut butter) is very tastey! Here are the links... http://www.lifechoicefoods.com/products/best-protein-bars http://www.premierprotein.com/product/chocolate-peanut-butter-bar/

Confused about Pre-op diet
ScottsGirl replied to nervousnelly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do what you surgeon says! And tell your NUT that you are inclined to do what the surgeon wants because he/she is the one doing the surgery. You really only need to do "liquids-only" the day before surgery; that's what my surgeon had me do. Congrats on the 20lb loss, that's what I lost before surgery; amost made me wonder if I needed the surgery or not, the answer was, "yes!" -
Difficult question to ask.
ScottsGirl replied to MinnesotaDreaming52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've not heard a singe person mention this that I know that had the sleeve done. I am barely 12 days out and have no issues, quite the opposite. That lady may have crohn's or something else going on; she should have that checked out! More jealous sleeve haters, I think! I have a friend that had the bypass done, and I sat there at Jamba juice and watched her eat an entire soft pretzel and small smoothie... can you say streeeeeetch? Oh, and my pretzel eating friend also told me NOT to get the sleeve done because there were too many probs, but according to my surgeon, it depends on "who" does the surgery! An inexperienced surgeon may have a history of problems, not necessariy a "general" sleeve problem. Just sayin'. -
Couple of items my Dr. Recommended that I haven't seen elsewhere - thought I would share in case it might help others
ScottsGirl replied to trudyjo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Um, are you going to be crushing all of these tabs? I have a few that I have to crush or open to consume and it is just nasty!!! Good luck with that. And, no, I haven't heard about this type of regimen. Let us know if this actually works! -
9 weeks post-op PIC!

Lookin' good! -
I had to go to countless classes, support groups and a nutritionist before the surgery, it was all ingrained in my brain before I went in. Didn't you have to jump through firey hoops like myself in order to get the surgery? I did everything in a matter of 2 months, but it was A LOT!

Sounds like a pinched nerve or inflamation somewhere around a nerve. Tell your doctor and see what he says.

No weight loss with sleeve?!
ScottsGirl replied to keke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't heard of anyone not losing weight, but it is possible to stretch the sleeve once you start eating regular food. It doesn't stretch nearly as much as your stomach can now, but if your not careful you could consume too many calories (depending on the food). There are times when people stall, but resume losing weight again (like during that time ). We've all had the same concerns, but think about your life without the surgery! Think positive! -
No weight loss with sleeve?!
ScottsGirl replied to keke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's weird but I actually have more energy than I did before. The high Protein is key! Before the sleeve I was a healthful eater, but I didn't always eat enough or ate too much at one time. I had severe sciatic nerve pain and had to stop my 5 mile a day walks. Now I am up to 3.5 miles a day, no back pain, and only 12 days in! So happy I can walk more than half a block!!! It's amazing how much energy you'll have for not eating food! -
I've done it a couple of times, but only because I was legitimately hungry! It's not something I think about doing everyday.
-
It took about 5-6 days for me, but I found that they more I moved the better I felt. Are you walking a litte bit everyday? Your pain should be subsiding this week!

Weight regain & non-supportive family members
ScottsGirl replied to Texas Belle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have friends here! Your family's attitude is probably the reason you got so heavy in the first place!!! Steer clear of them every opportunity that you get. Make new friends, see if any of us on here live close to you - start a new thread for this. Also, YOU are the master controller of your body, don't forget that. As far as having no hope...??? You are on your way to a Master's Degree which is an accomplishment that many people around you can't say that they have attained!!!!!!!! Your life is going to get better, I ASSURE you that this is only a temporary situation and you will be in a much better place sooner than you think. Pease stay focused on what you need to do for your health, you will figure that out. You also need to realize that "depression" itself will make you gain weight no matter how little you eat, so get out there and walk away the sadness! WE are here for you. -
First post op poop

You are not alone! Although I didn't give myself an enema with the shower massager, Iol, I was painfully patient and managed to go on my own, but boy, did it make me feel like I was going to pass out! Anethesia will do this to you! -
Nothing wrong with low fat cheese, I especialy like the light Babybell's! Looking forward to having them again

Helpful tips for post op surgery?
ScottsGirl replied to txblueeyz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep a positive attitude and do your best to drink your liquids in the hospital as soon as you are awake so that you can go home asap. Ice chip help with inflamation too! Walk as soon as they let you, and do it as often as they will allow. I also opted for NO pain killers, such as morphone etc, they just make you sleepy and slow down healing. I had no pain, just soreness. You're going to be happy that you did it! Have someone bring you crosswords, book/magazines or a laptop if you have one, it does get pretty boring and there's usually nothing on TV during the day that's worth watching! They wouldn't let me bring anything with me, but someone could bring stuff after I was out of recovery. Much luck to you! -
Gross.

Wow, in reading the different threads, I've come to realize that all the doctors that do this surgery are SO different in how they have their patients eat afterward. I know that each patient is different, but the pre and post diets are extremely different by comparison! My doctor is one of the best in the country, so I have to trust his orders, I guess.... I'm so ready to eat regular food, I was from day 2!

LMAO!!! No THAT'S talent!

Six Months later......94 pounds!
ScottsGirl replied to determined4's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look GREAT! The committment shows and looks realy good on you! -
If you are on full liquids, why are you eating yogurt? That's on the puree list for me... hmmm. Anyway, I woud say that plain non-fat greek yogurt has plenty of protein so there's no need to add more. You are probs right, the powder is causing your problem; maybe drink plain water every 5 mins or so and see if it goes away. I'm really curious to see how your body reacts to the yogurt in general.

Clear liquida intake
ScottsGirl replied to dcmusicmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should let your doctor know tomorrow that you are able to drink more than that. I would say in an hour at this point you should be consuming 6-8 ounces, but I'm not your doctor! LOL Surely 4oz is enough if you are getting all of your proteins for the day, but I would be a little concerned about keeping my stomach at the appropriate size to prepare for when you begin the puree stage. If it is too small, you will have trouble eating, and that's not good either! Call your doc and tell him. -
No Straw to drink with!

4 days til surgery and I'm not ready for this!
ScottsGirl commented on vsginkc's blog entry in vsginkc's Blog
You WILL get through it and YES, it IS worth it! I only had to do liquids the day before so I'm really sorry that you are suffering through more than one day of fluids, I don't understand why they do that to people. It may have to do with the actual procedure that they are performing. Your life is going to change for the better, this is only temporary and will pass. Rely on the people in this forum and your loved ones that know about your surgery, to help you get through, you are NOT alone in this! To satisfy hunger, consuming lots of protein helps. If you have broth, make sure you drink protein with it. The broth can be from egg flower soup or ANY restaurant soup that you like, it will satisfy you better. Premier shakes have a lot of protein and some calories to give your stomach something to do. After the surgery, you won't be nearly as hungry as you are feeling right now, it does get better - hang in there!
