  1. So I haven't had my surgery yet but I'm posting this on the post op thread bc I want to hear from those of you that have. I have spent a lot of time on this site and while it has really helped me put some of my fears behind me, I still have this one major one that is lurking around in my head driving me crazy. Most of the post I have read seems that people are a lot smaller than me. They do great after surgery and have no trouble reaching their goals. I am 518 lbs and 5'9. I have been over weight my entire life but this is my heaviest. I have tried many different diets and I'm always able to loose but then I hit a snag and then usually gain all of it back. I'm dedicated to this decision and have a really good support system. My husband, family, and close friends are all in my corner 100%! I'm 28 years and I still have tons of things I want to do before I leave this earth. If I don't do something that will not happen. So my concern is with me being as heavy as I am is it possible to get to goal. I'm terrified of having the surgery and loosing 100 or even 200lbs and then not being able to loose anymore. I understand the major changes I have to make and I'm on bored. I just don't want to go through this and still be morbidly obese. Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated. BTW I'm terrified that I have actually put my weight on here, but I feel safe here. Hopefully that's the case.

    Bigger than the rest....

Thanks! You are all right! Any amount of weight off is an improvement.
  3. It's crazy how differently things are done in different areas. I had my apt with the Bariatric Coordinator on August 2nd. We discussed the different types of surgery and she took all my medical history. Then she scheduled me for my first apt with Surgeon which is Aug 22nd, and then she also scheduled my first appointment with buy on Sept 13th. I guess it doesn't matter as long as they get it done! Good luck to you all!

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement and for sharing your success stories with me. Hearing about all these positive things that you all are experiencing really gives me hope and reassures me that this is the right decision.

Thank you all for your words encouragement! It's really helpful to have a safe place to talk about this. My family is supportive but sometimes I don't feel like they understand. Ill defiantly check out the 200+ forum.

    Zumba-how long after surgery?

  7. I've just started my journey and as I have been reading your post I read a lot about protein shakes. Me being the OCD researcher that I am I'm curious to know if you guys are buying pre made shakes, or if your buying the powder and making your own shakes. In your opinion which is better? Also how to the pre made shakes compare in price to the others? Thanks for your input in advance!

    Clear liquid diet

I'm not looking forward to this part. I recently had a colonoscopy and was on clear liquid diet for the whole day prior the procedure. I was so sick. Nauseous, headache.... It looks like though from reading other post that Clear liquids get easier as you go. I wouldn't know this since I just had the one day, but one can hope. Hope you all feel better soon!

  11. You guys are probably tired of hearing from me, but I'm so glad I found this forum. It has really helped me stop freaking out and realize my struggle is shared. I was wondering if any of you have read any good books on the vertical sleeve? The more I know the better I feel.

    Tell Coworkers?

I'm disabled because of a back injury and some lung problems, but I have faced the same decision with telling my family. Of course my immediate family knows that I've started the process, but it's the more distant ones I am worried about. My cousin had previously had the gastric bypass and although he lost weight initially, he didn't follow instructions and gained a lot back. I can't tell you how many times I have heard people taking about him at family get togethers. I don't want that to be me if I fail. I'm told as long as I stick to the diet plan and follow instructions that this will not happen, but it worries me. I agree that I think it's a personal preference. I'm a person who gets my feelings hurt easily, so I have decided that other than my immediate family and a few close friends that I am going to keep quite for now. Good luck on your Journey!
