  1. I wouldn't say I have lost as much as I wanted after a year, but I could have. I go through spells where I dont' want to workout and/or overeat every chance I get. Luckily right now I'm going through a good phase and I'm dropping weight again.

I am new to Knoxville, have the lapband, single, and work at UT. We have soo much in common Seriously though. A singles thread for East TN would be a good idea.

    Nashville Docs and Support Groups

Most support groups will take patients from any doctor. I would suggest trying Baptist Hospital in Nashville. There are a few support groups in the Franklin area. One is on the first Monday night of the month at the Franklin Library. It is run by a nurse from Centennial Hospital. I think it starts at 6pm.

    Diabetes and the band...

Arin, If you are worried about your blood sugar levels getting too low, I wouldn't worry. The medicines should keep it level even when you are in the diet stages.
  7. I thought my dr. was aggressive with fills. Nope, it took 3 weeks before my fill and hen it was about 4 ccs.

    Michael Vick

The day he was going to court to submit his plea, there were supporters there saying he should be forgiven. He hadn't even made it to court to enter the guilty plea and everyone is supposed to forget what happened? Is he not supposed to do his jail time because he said he was sorry? What's wrong with these people.
  9. To me it sounds like there is air getting in your stomach when you eat. I have that problem sometimes, even when I drink.

    10 cc band

I think the band is more circular and it holds more fluid. the older bands were closer to a horse shoe and the new bands are closer to a circle.

Question for people banded for over a year

3 weeks post op 4 cc 6 weeks post op 2cc mores 9 weeks post op 1 cc more. the first 4 cc did not do a lot, but I still felt some restriction. the second fill caused a lot of restriction and the third fill maybe my last one. I think i have found the sweet spot.

    Hicurps? Or Buccups?

It's probably air getting in when you drink causing this. I get some bad hiccups if I eat too fast.
  13. Sometimes a warm soup like broth will help with the hunger pains. I tried chicken broth it helped some. The 2 week diet sucks, but it will be worth it in the end.
  14. Paula, Good luck. I doubt you caused damage by eating a sandwich. I was 4 days post op and back on regular food for every meal. Two weeks after surgery I could tell there was some restriction, but not enough. I have had 1 fill and it did not do much. Also, I would look around for more fill doctors. Mine are $150 (US) each. Most people on here are going to agree that the first couple of fills did not do as much as we had hoped. Most have said it took the third fill to get a good feeling of restriction. I have the new 10cc band. One difference is the new 10cc band is a complete circle of Fluid where the older bands were more of a horseshoe shape. It is supposed to provide better restriction, but we will see.
  15. FaithMD is right. I lost about 10 pounds in those 3 months and the insurance approved me pretty fast. I think it is just they want to make sure you are committed and will follow all the rules. Lap-Band isn't a cure all, but it is a great help.
  16. My insurance (Aetna) has a 3 month pre surgery approval process. What mine was for was to get me used to the lifestyle and make sure surgery was the right thing to do. Going to support group meetings and meeting with exercise specialist and nutritionist did help. I do wish it could have gone faster, but the support groups and information helped tremendously.
  17. I was driving the day after surgery, but only for a couple of miles. I think you might be too sore and too tired to drive that far. In other words, I wouldn't suggest it.
  18. Since you do not have restriction from a fill yet, a beer is not as bad. The empty calories will be the worst thing. Don't drink and take pain medicine though. Sure you will feel good, but you'll pay for it later.

Even though I don't know their names right off, there are a few fill doctors in Knoxville. I can try to find some names for you a little later.

    Frustrated and Confused!!!

I would go by what the surgeons office thinks, and not the exercise specialist. In my experiene, I lost some weight by going through the diet and exercise program, and I still got the insurance to pay for the surgery. The insurance makes it a hassle, but it also helps ensure you are ready for life after surgery.
