Whats it like being under and waking up from surgery?
BlueClementine replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went in and under easily, but my surgery only took about 45 minutes and as they were wheeling me into recovery I came to... Later the doc said most patients stay out at least 30 min to an hour giving the body time to adjust to the shock of the surgery. I wish!! The first thing I felt before I even opened my eyes was a terrible burning sensation on the inside of my body. I kid you not, the first coherent thought I had was "spontaneous combustion".. And I started to cry, vocalizing the my insides were on fire. I begged them to knock me out but they didn't, and it took about 2 hours before I was moved to my room. I was truly miserable and the first pain meds they have me didn't help. They ended up giving me dilaudid wich made it bearable. In hindsight, they just cauterized 80% of my stomach and removed it, I guess it's not surprising that I felt like my insides were on fire. It's funny, I've never heard anyone else on this forum complain of heat or fire like sensations... That and my surgery was at 7 pm at night and they released me at 11 am the next day. No dilaudid for me :-( -

First drink since surgery, i feel nothing!

So I planned on waiting a few months before experimenting with alcohol, but sometimes life throws well laid plans out the damn window. Was with my mom this morning driving her to a consultation for a lifestyle lift. She was so excited, dressed to the nines and I even did her hair and makeup. We arrived and were walking into the building when I heard her cry out. Turned around and she's on the ground not moving. Long story short, she fell badly and on pavers. And she's on cumidin. So now we are both covered in blood, ambulance to the ER, 40 some stitches later, her right leg and knee is destroyed and she can't walk or move her leg. Immobilized. Got her home and in bed, went to pick up scripts and stopped for a small bottle of vodka. F it. So a double vodka later, with Water and mio, and I feel nothing. It's like I didn't even drink it. I might have another and report back. -
Congrats, I bet it feels great!! Way to go :-)

On a side note, I think the reason the liquid helped so much for me was because it washed the acid lining my espophogus, etc. back down into my stomach. It's also a thick liquid so it coats everything nicely. Chewables or gas-x strips won't offer that. -

Hi Madam, just saw this thread and yes, I had the same symptoms... The only thing that helped was first, sleeping almost sitting up. Sometimes though,, I would still wake up with my lungs and throat on fire and feeling like I was burning up from the inside. I tried tums, Roland's, gas-x, etc. and the only thing that would quench the fire was a liquid extra strength mylanta. Tastes horrible but it works. I stopped eating anything after 8pm and only drink water during the night. It's gotten better but it still happens on occasion... I just push the pillows under my back and swallow two mouthfuls of the chalky stuff... One the bright side it's no where as bad as it was at first. sorry your going through this, I hope it gets better soon! -
My local flea market has a pickle stand, fresh with different favors. I bought the garlic flavored and would bite into them and just suck all the juice out until the looked almost like raisins, lol. Hubby said it was one of the grossest things to watch, but I was in heaven. Doc and NUT said no problem with pickles, just stay away from the skin for the first few weeks.

Finally logging food via Myfitnesspal, very suprised
BlueClementine posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I've been stuck at the same weight for 3 wks and YES it's frustrating. I'm totally aware it happens and why. I've always kept a running log in my head of my daily intake and thought I was doing a great job on protein, carbs, etc. But still the weight hasn't budged so I decided to use Myfitnesspal since it seems to help so many forum members here. So to my surprise, the people I've friended from here that share their diaries; the caloric intake and amount of food is SO SO SO small! It seems like they are barely eating, I can't see how they are achieving 80 grams of protein on such little food. Even if I only had 3 protein shakes a day and my vitamins, I'd be at 750 calories. How are ppl eating under 600 calories and getting the required amount of protein? I don't get it. -
Been at 204 for 3 weeks and I'm only 7 wks. Out. Ready to SCREAM!!

So I recently posted a thread that sounded pretty similar to the ones that are like nails on a chalkboard for you.... I wasn't whining in my opinion ( Madam eveRy time I read whinging I crack up, so funny the differences an ocean can make!) I was stating my progress thus far, how much I've lost, the fact that I hadn't lost in 2 weeks, and posted a before and after pic. I did this for my own benefit, to keep me motivated, and... I'm not gonna lie, maybe a few kind words of encouragement or GASP! God forbid, maybe 1 or 2 "atta girl's"! Lord knows I haven't had a life filled with kind words or recognition. Sometimes we are just looking for a response, period. Because we don't always get that when we need it from our friends/family... I was a little disappointed in the few responses I received, but hey, that's what happens with expectations. You constantly get let down. People need to treat others as they would like to be treated. That said, whiners are annoying as hell, especially when it's the same thing over and over. I get it.
