So the other night my surgeons office held a ceremony for everyone that had wls in 2013. My surgery was 10/21 so I was excited to go and see everyone's progress. I know what they say about expectations but it was really kind of depressing. They had people seated in groups by month, December, November, October then September, August etc.. as each group got up I expected (haha) that for the most part each group would be a little skinnier. With the exception of a few people the October, November December group was the thinnest! I wish I hadn't gone to this ceremony. I feel so discouraged after seeing all of these still fat people. I was one of the thinnest people in the whole room and I wasn't expecting that! Arg... I really need to find a way to get that picture out of my head!

It could be a reaction to a med or even dry skin from dehydration. I was super dry and itchy for a couple of months.

Seela replied to coopercoop's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think your psych is correct and most of us go through those exact things. I don't really care what it is, if you find something that helps you and something that motivates you than your lucky. You're doing great and thank you for sharing your experience for I'm sure it will help many. -
Losing Weight but not Inches?
Seela replied to Debi Amador's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 40lbs before I went down a pants size. It was gangbusters after that though! Hang in there -
I stayed one night but I was up and walking right away. I went for several walks that night and as soon as I could pee on my own I was able to go home.

Another thing to consider is that hormones are stored in fat cells so with rapid weight loss there is also a surge of hormones released which could account for the hot flashes.

I have always been a size 8 but with all the extra weight I had to wear a 9 1/2... now back to an 8. Having to buy all new shoes really sucks

How are things going for those are are at (or near) goal?
Seela replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still have about 35lbs to goal but I'm curious. .. when you try to stop losing do most of you gain a little in the beginning before you find the sweet spot? Maintenance scares me. -
What a great attitude! Definitely take pictures. .. you'll be so glad you did!

At this point I was only consuming 400-500 calories a day and struggling to get fluids in so, yeah, energy was a big problem. It gets better week by week as you heal and consume more. Once I got up to about 600 calories or so and more fluids my energy was more sustainable. Push the fluids, it really helps.. and the protein. Good luck

I agree with the above posts but I would have no problem, if he brings it up again, saying something like... I respect and appreciate your position but I've made this decision for myself and I need you to either be supportive or not say anything at all. The negative comments don't help me so please keep them to yourself. Thank you... Good luck!

Have you smoked or vaped e-cigarettes and not had complications post surgery?
Seela replied to GemmaLicious's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I Vape non stop... even vaped in the hospital. .. have not had one problem. I told my surgeon, I don't smoke I don't drink I don't do drugs i dont consume caffine and now I don't even overeat so it's the last bad habit I have and I'm not stopping. He said he could live with that. I have not had any problems what so ever. If you can stop though, I would. -
Congratulations! I'm right there with you. I was sleeved 10/21 and have lost 72.4 lbs and am about 35 lbs from goal and still losing! We're doing great!

Societies perception. .. i have been an open book about my wls as I'm incapable of keeping a secret. ..lol. so I get asked all the time; How much weight have you lost? What size are you now? Etc... it really doesn't bother me (too much), but when i tel people my goal is to lose about 35 more lbs and get to a size 7 the freak out. SIZE 7! That's way to skinny! You're getting to skinny already! Are you kidding me? Since when is a size 12 to skinny for someone that's 5'5" tall? I think "society" has become so used to seeing everyone so overweight that "normal" sizes seem unrealistic to most people. Sad.

Ok so every time I stall, doesn't usually last too long but about a week or so with no loss, all of my saggy, baggy "stuff" tightens up really nice. At the rate I'm going I don't think I'll need plastics. When my body's in losing mode my stomach gets all gross then I plateau and it firms all up again. Nice! Two months ago I thought for sure I would need some stomach work done but now I'm not so sure. Yay me!

how often to eat
Seela replied to hopeful2 be slim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 months out, I usually eat 3 meals plus one or two protein snacks in between. -
Personally I was a GREAT dieter! I've been on a million diets all of them lasting 2 weeks to a few months. Hundreds of pounds lost and regained over and over again. I'm so thrilled not to have to diet anymore. Being sleeved is absolutely nothing like dieting. On a diet, I'm starving all the time, now I have to force myself to eat. I'm 5'5" tall, HW 250lbs CW 178.4, sleeved 10/21- 5 months. Getting sleeved is what got me away from dieting.

There is no way in he!! I would have been able to change a tampon after surgery. I could barely wipe! Way to painful

1st week post op protein drink! :) yum!
Seela replied to bsmalls's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Try PB2 instead of peanut butter... pretty much tastes the same but much better for you. -
There are actually a lot of people on here that started at over 300 or even 400lbs. You can do a search, there are specific groups for that. Remember, it's not about how fast it comes off... it didn't go on fast... It's about following your plan and believing in the process. Come here often for support and don't freak out every time you go a few days with no loss. Walk every day and do do your best to meet your water and protein goals. That's really all there is to it, in the beginning anyway. Good luck!

What if you don't do it? To many what ifs. Congratulations on your decision, you'll do great

The one thing I thought I'd miss with a vengeance is Diet Pepsi. Every once in a while I get a little twinge but it passes soon enough and I'm so much happier and healthier without it. It's surprisingly been the least of my cravings
