Whoo hoo is right. That's awesome. I must admit though that I don't know hiw those obesity classes are defined.

different facilities and doctors have different protocols. Didn't have any classes where I got my RNY. I thinks it's a great idea.

  3. Help! I feel so confused on the nutritional information I have gotten from my surgical clinic v. the information I learned in these documentaries. Casein (Protein from animal products) is important, per my surgeon. According to Forks over Knives, it'll give me cancer! I'm about 3 weeks out and seriously considering juicing for a month after watching these documentaries. I'm not usually so easily swayed, but maybe I've had my head in the sand about nutrition for too many years and now feel completely confused about the contradictory information I've learned. Have you seen these documentaries? Do they completely contradict the nutritional advise you've been given for post surgery? Thoughts? Comments? Help welcome! I don't know whether to eat my cottage cheese or not!!! Ahhh!

    WHAT TO DO?

We're all biased toward the surgery we've had, but I have been very happy with the sleeve.

getting the jitters and having some questions

I didn't have any problem getting Water in. Only the day of/after surgery did I not have a lot of liquids. After that, it was no problem. I was taking very small sips right after surgery, and when I went to take my barium, he doctor said after my sip, 'The was a wimpy sip, now try for one a little bigger!' LOL I told my doctor I was surprised I didn't have any trouble with liquids at my post op appointment a week later and he said basically the smallest amount of swelling between different people can make a difference on how easy or hard it is to get in your liquids.
  10. I was secretive at first, but have now told a healthy handful of people I like at work and lots of relatives, and if they happen to slip and tell someone else, I'm OK with that. I'm not going over a loudspeaker with the info, but I'm also not keeping it a secret. I'm proud of my choice, feel it was the best one for me, and have received very close to nothing but support. Plus, it just would have felt uncomfortably deceptive to me not to tell, though I know that's just my personal feeling and not everyone shares that thought.
  11. Just sittin' here, crossing my legs. New trick I learned ;)

Not sure which BC to use after surgery?

I have Mirena and love it. I've been losing very consistently since my surgery Dec. 2013 and have had the Mirena for 3.5 years. I have a friend who got one w/o a kiddo, though you may want to talk w/ your doctor just to make sure that it's OK for you to do that, too.
  13. OP here with an update: My partner & I have been juicing daily for about a week and LOVE IT! Our toddler even loves it and I feel good about him having that for his juice!
  14. End of ALL preop diets was today. I'm free to eat anything. So I went and had nachos. This was not a 'cheat meal' IMO, but rather a planned splurge. My promise to myself is to eat healthy, protein rich foods 90% of the time. Oh, and for the nachos? I ate like three or four of them and a couple of tortilla chips and was very full! Couldn't stand to eat another bite :) I really enjoyed it and have no regrets! Back to health in the AM!

  15. NSV from Friday, jeans day at work: Got dressed in the AM and my jeans were falling off of me! Too baggy to wear without looking silly. Down from a 20 to a 18 :)

why dont u just stay on the pre op diet?

I got this to. I mean, it's logical from the outside. It's working, right? The thing they don't understand, although they may be well meaning, is that it simply isn't going to have any longevity unless you are going in for surgery and absolutely know you have to stick to this diet to have a safe surgery. I truly believe more and more that obese people (myself included) simply have a more ravenous appetite than people who don't struggle to maintain a healthy weight. I'm not saying other factors, like psychological factors, can't play a role, too. I am just simply amazed at how much *easier* a healthy lifestyle and weight loss (post-surgery) is than it's ever been before. I still think about what I put in my mouth.. each bite. I enjoy eating, and I'm even enjoying eating the healthy foods now. Seeing the numbers decline on the scale is so motivating. And having that ravenous, out of control hunger and appetite is simply gone. I believe this was my number one defeater of all my best efforts in the past. I'm not very far out, but if this lasts and I continue on this path, I swear I'm going to preach the word of the sleeve like it's my new damn Bible. Amen.

    Scope

Is this the endoscopy? No, don't be nervous. You'll go to sleep and wake up and it'll be over. Your throat may hurt slightly. My only reaction was I was sleepy from the anesthesia and slept much of the remainder of the day. No biggie.

December sleevers 2013 just checking in!

Down 30+ lbs & feeling great! Had my first meal yesterday that didn't agree with me, on day 2 of the soft foods diet: 3/4 can of tuna fish with light mayo. I don't think I'll be having tuna fish again for a while.

    Problems with medicaid

http://www.ndhcri.org/Healthcare_Professionals/medicaidcasereview/preauthorizationareas/Criteria_for_Bariatric_Surgery.pdf It does look like they won't cover it if the condition can be controlled with medication, unfortunately. I'd still finish and submit. What do you have to lose?
