  1. So when I weighed a week ago I was 199. But that was too close to 200 for me to call it real. Well this morning I was 191 so I will officially Celebrate the milestone. That's the most significant loss I've had since preop, but I guess 2 weeks of diarrhea, 2 rounds of IV fluids and feeling like sh... 24/7 will do that to ya. I'd really rather be celebrating being off these damn antibiotics that are making me so sick. But still.... Yea Me!
  2. Click on your own name at the very top of the page to open your settings. Select My Tickers and you can create your own. Good luck at OCC. I was there in December and had a great time (yes, I'm saying that about having surgery). The OCC and Marriott staff were both super nice and I really enjoyed the 3 days with my sister who I only get to see 1-2 times/year. My only regret is I had to watch her drink a margarita instead of having one myself

    Gastric Sleeve nightmare

So sorry to hear your problems and I truly hope you are better soon. As for going to Mexico, I certainly wouldn't lump all surgeons in one category. There are a lot of good Mexican bariatric surgeons with excellent credentials, experience and skills. The one I used actually has a complication rate 1/100 that of the average (as per the US based SRC that certifies Centers of Excellence). Unfortunately, as for Dr. Huacuz, it took me all of 5 minutes to find DOZENS of patient complaints and complications dating back years when I googled his name. I'm really sorry you ended up going with him, but like lynn2win said, research can help others weed out the good from the bad. Thanks for posting so you can help others.
  4. That's almost identical to me! First 3 days and last two days were the worst. How's your vacation going?
  5. ALL weight loss is a "calorie game". The DS just adds in a level of malabsorption. But no matter what, calories burned has to be more than calories absorbed in order to lose weight. (People can stop losing and even regain weight even with a bypass or DS if they don't eat right) Why do you say your sleeve is inactive and misshapen?
  6. I had to pay my yearly deductible max out of pocket of 3500. Surgery was 18,000 and my deductible 3500. That is right, your surgeon may actually require you to pay your max out of pocket if it more than your deductible. A friend just had a hysterectomy and her deductible is $3500 but max annual out of pocket is $5000. Her surgeon required the $5000 before surgery. But again, check with your surgeon' office.
  7. So did he reconnect your duodenum to your sleeve? Or are you still bypassed with just a smaller stomach pouch (sleeve)
  8. In most cases I've heard of, (with any surgery/procedure) you will have to pay the deductible to your surgeon before surgery. But you may ask his office for clarification.

    Gastric Sleeve and MRIs

Staples are titanium and do not interfere with MRI. Same with most any other hardware you have surgically implanted (knees, hips, etc.). I've got a plate and four screws in my neck and it's fine for MRI, CT, airport security, etc.
  10. Yep, I was hungry the whole time. Just keep your eye on the prize and seriously, you'll barely remember preop. You can do it!
  11. Your stomach isn't "holding" anything. Liquids pass through your pylorus into your intestines within minutes. You will feel the restriction as you move to puree's and especially solids.

    Bananas

I am 2 months out and currently taking antibiotics for a bad Clostridial infection. The antibiotics are very irritating to my sleeve and I can barely eat/ drink anything. Supposed to take meds with food. Thank goodness for bananas! It's one of the few foods I can tolerate right now. I eat 1/3 small banana each time I take my antibiotic (three times/day). They weird thing is I was never a big banana fan before surgery.
  13. I skip even reading those posts, too.
  14. As far as skills, I believe these are all good choices. And of course everyone on here is going to cheer for their own surgeon. Since you 've narrowed it down, I think you and your daughter should try to have a personal dialogue with each of these surgeons. Find which one you both feel the most comfortable with. Don't forget to ask about their postop support programs as well..... For both medical and emotional issues.
  15. Got mine on Amazon. Around $17.
  16. Have you talked to your doc about switching PPIs or adding another type of antacid? The hunger feeling is probably acid and people respond differently to different Meds. A friend of mine who had bypass went through 3 different Meds before finally finding the that worked? How about sucralfate? If you've got gastric irritation or ulceration, that can really help heals things. Also, have you tried contacting OCC to see if they have any suggestions? Dr. So has been good at following up with my questions.

Out of Pocket and Deductible Question?

A friend of mine just had a hysterectomy and they required the full amount of her out of pocket max before surgery. They said if there was anything left over after all the billing was done they would refund her. Sounds like it may just be a common hospital billing policy.

    Catheter for surgery?

    No catheter here.
  19. thanks for asking, hoosier. I was the second one to go in for surgery yesterday in the morning around 11am. they had a really hard time finding a vein for bloodwork and IV, i already have tiny veins to begin with so on top of not drinking water, that was a pretty painful experience. i walked around more today, but i was just so tired. got back to hotel and fell asleep for a half hour here, half our there. i cant tell if what im feeling is pain pain, or gas pain. i think what im feeling is pain pain on the left side where the drain is. ive gotten in about 3 1/2 cups of water in so far today, still sipping away. not really hungry.. im debating on taking my pain medicine but the instructions say wait til tonight to take first dose so im trying to hold off. i waned to go walking around stores, but now i think im gonna hold off until tmw to do that. i dont want to push myself too much Congrats! I was the only one in my group that didn't have drain pain at first. Felt awesome the day I was discharged. Then the next day when they changed the drain dressing, they discovered I had a clot in my drain and when they suctioned it out, it moved the drain around and then I felt it! Sharp pain that was somewhat positional depending on how I moved. Went away when they pulled the drain. As for walking, when I was too tired to go all the way to Walmart, I actually did laps of the floors. The halls are in a circle so I would do a lap, go down the stairwell, do another lap then down to the next floor and eventually down to the lobby. That way I got out of my room but wasn't too far away to jump on the elevator and head back if I got tired. Or head down to the restaurant and get a cup of chicken soup to go and you can sip it back in your room. You're doing great!
  20. Thanks, I really do feel like a weenie for complaining about being sick especially knowing what you've been through. I really am happy with my milestone....just in a pity party kind of mood.
  21. Peanut Butter (or better yet PB2), tofu and puréed bean or split pea Soups all have good Protein and no dairy. How about puréed chicken salad or tuna fish? You could try them like a spread on saltines. I've become a little lactose intolerant...get very bloated and gassy if I make my protein shakes with skim milk. Had to switch to soy, but cheese still goes down OK. Weird. My mom is lactose and gluten intolerant and has always had digestive problems. Good quality Probiotics and digestive enzymes have really helped her. Good luck!

    POOP.

I'm on the opposite end. When I'm not sick with diarrhea from a Clostridial infection, my poos are soft formed and once a day. Rarely, I will go a second time, but it's never been hard and I've never been constipated. I stocked up on Miralax, benefiber and Metamucil in anticipation of constipation, but never needed any of it. Not sure why I'm different.
  23. Ok THANKS I forgot SPECIAL k it GREAT I already have that & will be trying the rest one at a time! THANK U SOOOOOOO MUCH! Oh yeah, and decaf green tea and Camomille tea...the warm stuff still goes down easier for me.
  24. Would you consider lap band, instead? This could help her learn healthy choices and to lose weight and yet not affect her physically for the rest if her life. That would leave her options to have the band removed once she's reached goal and still have the sleeve if she chooses to do it as an adult. Here is a link to Obesity Control Center's surgical options page for adolescents http://www.obesityco...s-surgeries.php You may contact Dr. Ortiz to discuss your daughter's best option.
