My rant is, it's too bad we aren't allowed to rant and rave in the Rants and Raves forum. It should be called the "Rants and Raves, But Only If It's Warm and Fuzzy and Don't You Dare Post What You Are Really Feeling or You Will Get Personally Insulted" forum.

Things you thought you'd miss but you don't?
Kindle replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Huh... What does your nut say about eggs then? A cup of skim milk has 90 calories and 8g protein, not to mention all the vitamin D, A and calcium. One egg has 75 calories and 6g protein....right in the same ballpark as milk. -
Hows the internet/cell service in Mexico?
Kindle replied to HeatherSchwartz's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The second you cross the border, you are on international rates. I was there in December and the Marriott and OCC had free wifi (as did the Starbuck's up by Walmart) I turned my phone to airplane mode so I wouldn't have to pay for incoming text messages. I used Skype, FaceTime, iMessages and email (all free via wifi) to communicate. -
I had chicken broth, beef broth, Swanson's Mexican Tortilla Soup base, and Chinese hot and sour base. The last two are a little spicy so I diluted them with chicken broth. I added unjury unflavored Protein powder to all my broths to help with protein goals. I was able to do full liquids (not just clear) after 3 days and my nut highly recommended drinkable yogurt to help replace normal flora. At that point I also added every kind of cream soup I could find including asparagus, spinach, mushroom, shrimp, potato, tomato, lobster bisque, and leek. I diluted the Soups with Water or milk, strained out any lumps and added Unjury powder. I didn't worry about fat content because my calorie intake was so low anyways. Beside, we need fat in our diets for healthy cell production and Vitamin absorption. Good luck!

Had my first negative spectator comment
Kindle replied to Kindle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Never got a chance to lecture her... Others jumped in before I could even open my mouth. Actually it's ironic she said my surgery was the "easy way". She is anti-surgery in general and was the reason we were talking about hysterectomies. She has uterine fibroids and has been bleeding for 6 months straight. Her doctor is adamant about her having a hysterectomy, but she won't because "it's really not that bad and surgery scares me". In the end, we all left with warm fuzzy feelings and the only one who got pissed off was the one who couldn't have an orgasm...she didn't appreciate our vibrator recommendations and technique suggestions. -
little worried

You won't feel full until you get to dense, solid proteins. Liquids and soft food run through our sleeves in 5-10 min at most. -

Did you develop lactose intolerance? I drink milk almost everyday. -

Can't you have subway? Not a footlong with chips...my staple meal. -
You might want to try sugar free syrup - tastes similar and will minimize your possibility of dumping No dumping with VSG (at least in theory) because your pylorus is in tact and nothing is rerouted so there is normal digestion. Of course some sleevers have reported it, but not nearly as common.

I was like that for about 3 months. Just as soon have an IV in so I didn't have to even think about eating and drinking. I "snapped out of it" a few weeks ago. It's actually nice to finally be enjoying food again.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log
Kindle replied to RunningA5K's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kindle, this is not a competition or a game...this is OUR life! When one loses, we all lose! When one gains, we all gain! We are in this together!!!!! Thanks. Actually seems like I lose more inches when I'm on a weight stall, so I'm not complaining in the least. -
Unjury Unflavored Protein Powder
Kindle replied to kcgeeck's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've added it to mashed potatoes, soup, and guacamole. Just this morning added it to pancake batter. I tried adding it to oatmeal once, but it made it really gummy. -
Wanting to feel normal!
Kindle replied to aNewTanya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started feeling "normal" at about 3 months post op. Don't worry, you'll get there. Just be patient and don't push it...I couldn't even dream of eating puréed meatballs at 10 days. I did liquids for 18 days and then SLOWLY transitioned to puréed, then soft, then regular food at about 6 weeks out. Your stomach is still swollen and your staple line isn't even close to healed yet. Keep it bland and simple and feel free to backtrack on your meal plan if things don't sit right. Be patient. This is about the rest of your life, not just the first couple weeks. -
Garden of a Life Raw Fit. Sorry, pics didn't show up on OP.... hopefully they do now.

Found this in a local health food store. Same brand as the vitamins and probiotics I take, so thought I'd try it. I was a little skeptical because most "organic, natural, raw" stuff tastes like dirt to me, but this was actually pretty good! It has kind of a nutty-honey taste. The "powder" doesn't dissolve... It's more of a suspension that you have to keep shaking or stirring, but it's a nice change from all the sweetness. Also has probiotics and good levels of vitamin D, E, K, iron and chromium that you never see in whey isolate products. I also found it on Amazon.

My grandma used to serve pancakes with butter and sugar, so it was a yummy trip down memory lane for me.

Protein powder will definitely clump in liquids if heated above 140 degrees. Just like when you add an egg to egg drop soup. Didn't seem to make a difference when mixed in the pancake batter and cooked.

Grew up in Plainfield, but live in Idaho now. I always make a Two Lakes stop when I'm home for a visit. If you click on the link in my post, you can check out their menu online...enjoy!

Not sure if I will be ready for work on the 15th
Kindle replied to beldary's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why would your doctor put you on antibiotics for a cold? Do you have a contingency plan at work with the lifting restriction? You really do need to respect this limitation. I went back to work after 1 week and I often have to lift up to 60 lbs. although my restriction was no more than 20lbs for 3 weeks, I did make arrangements to make sure I could follow these instructions. -

HW 238 SW 216 CW 177 Gained 2 pounds this week....sorry guys! Last time I gained, it was the start of a month long stall, so I may be bringing the team scores down over the next few weeks. -
Huh! I always drank whiskey so I could follow up with a cig. Aaaaa.... the good ole days.

Two Lakes Supper Club near Almond, WI makes the BEST shrimp pizza on a super thin crispy crust. Family owned and run since 1949. They close in the winter months and people put in their pizza orders by the dozens to stock in their freezers until they reopen in the spring. They also make a mean drunken chicken. Road trip anyone? http://www.hellotwolakes.com/history.html

Has anyone else ever had to pay 2 copays for their surgery?

Could be worse...you could be self employed with a $5000 deductible. Thanks Obamacare. NOT! -
Incision Stitch Mystery
Kindle replied to butternickles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah, and as for the little stitch sticking out, if it's still there in a week or two, you can snip it off with a tiny scissors or nail clippers. A friend of mine had a stitch sticking out of her belly button from a Laproscopic procedure 10 years ago and it drove her crazy until her doc just said to snip it off! -
Incision Stitch Mystery
Kindle replied to butternickles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to my OCC surgery report, the skin incisions are closed with 5-0 monocryl Subdermal sutures and dermabond. As for the dermabond, Dr. So said to just wash the areas like normal with soap and water in the shower (don't submerge in a bath or hot tub or pool yet). The adhesive will flake and peel off over 5-7 days and you just let it. I think the last of mine was gone in about. 9 days.
