    Snacking?

    Wow. That is a lot of food. I can't eat that much and I'm over two years out. Maybe try eating a lot less but more frequently. I could only do a couple tablespoons at a time for the first 4-6 months. But once my sleeve relaxed a bit I could eat more. At this point I typically eat 1/4-1/2 cup 6-8 times/day. I never bothered to distinguish between meals and Snacks. Also, are you taking a PPI? Acid often feels like hunger. And is what you're eating all high Protein? Carbs will definitely make you feel hungry sooner.
  2. @@docpaddle you may have to sacrifice for a little while, but know that you will be eating your wife's delicious meals again.. Once I passed goal, there's nothing I can't and don't eat....in moderation.

    Thanks...it took two separate 3 hour sessions (that's all the tattooing I can handle at a time) but it's my favorite one. As for timing for your tat I would probably wait a couple months at least. I have no scientific stats, but yoir body is already taxed with trying to heal from surgery and your nutritional intake is minimal. Even though it's "just" a tattoo, I'd say give your body a break. Slow or impeded healing could turn into an infection.

    What do you mean by "when it's OK?" Like how far out from surgery? And on your foot?! Ouch! I had 3 tats prior to VSG and got a 4th one in honor of my brother about 1 year postop. It's runs from just under my collar bone to up around my shoulder. He died 4 years ago but took me that long to come up with the perfect design.

    I've always woken up nauseous from anesthesia and I made this very clear to Dr. Jimenez (the cardiologist that does your preop health survey) as well as the anesthesiologist. They definitely listened because I woke up pain free and with no nausea for the first time ever. I never needed a single pain pill. YEAH! In fact I was so impressed with my recovery that 2 years later I contacted Dr. Martinez and he had the anesthesiologist email me his protocol to give to another anesthesiologist when I had my gallbladder removed here in the US. Unfortunately one of the anti nausea medications they used at OCC is not available in the US, because it is a form of THC. So they ended up using injectable anesthesia on me for my gallbladder instead of the usual inhalant. But that worked, too.
  6. I guess I've got a below average capacity. At 8 weeks a could barely finish 2 tablespoons and then I'd be stuffed for 1/2 day. Even a piece of string cheese was two meals. Now I'm 28 months out and have been maintaining below goal for over a year and a half. If it's mostly liquid (like soup) I MIGHT be able to finish a whole cup of something. But anything with any density, I'm limited to about 1/2 cup. I get in what I need by eating 6-8 times/day. This has been my max capacity and hasn't really changed since about 14 months out. THANK GOODNESS!

    10 Days Post Op

    I puréed and added unflavored Protein powder to every kind of Soup I could find (that didn't contain rice or noodles)....cream of shrimp, lobster bisque, butternut squash, split pea, French onion, bean with ham, ginger Thai, Chinese hot and sour, Tuscan chicken broth, cream of asparagus, broccoli cheese, chili, etc. Also had refried Beans with melted cheese, soft scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, hummus, plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein Powder and/or Torani syrups, mashed potatoes with unflavored protein powder, homemade guacamole, egg salad, and pureed tuna fish with mayo and mustard. And of course still drinking Protein shakes through all the stages.

My postop transitions were a lot more conservative than some of the others posted here.... 1-3 days Clear liquid 4-18 days Full liquids 19-29 days pureed food 30-42 days soft food 42+ Days regular food except seeds, skins, nuts and other crunchy stuff which were forbidden until 3 months I actually transitioned slower than the above plan to allow my sleeve plenty of time to heal and get used to different foods. made for a very easy recovery. As you can see there are very different plans, so If you don't understand the information given to you, definitely call your nut or surgeon.
  9. I agree. I didn't start eating eggs until 3 weeks out, but it was at least 2-3 months before I could eat a whole one. 6 months before I could finish a whole container of Greek yogurt or a whole Quest bar. Boy, I sure miss that kind of restriction

    What Valentina said. Having a deputy there on civil standby is the way to go. If your future ex is there, fine, the deputy will hold the peace. If he's not, then the cop can verify what you are taking in addition to taking video tape before and after removing items. Also have an inventory list of exactly what you took and what you left in case you have to show it to a judge. Try and come up with most of the list ahead of time so you won't have to be there that long. But it's still your apartment and you do not need his permission to go in. But in the end, other than the sentimental personal stuff, remember it's all just stuff. When I broke up with my live in boyfriend of 6 years, I left with almost nothing. We had a 1400sq ft house that we had purchased together along with all the furniture, a fishing boat and a canoe. Besides my personal belongings, I walked away with a waterbed, a small TV, the computer, the dog and the cat. I Let him have the house and everything else. My new apartment was furnished with milk crates and beach chairs. I just wanted out and I never regretted not getting my "fair share". The dog and cat (Kona and Cladaugh )were the only things that were irreplaceable anyways.
  11. I just freeze protein shakes and eat like ice cream. Endless flavors..... Chocolate banana, peanut butter, red velvet caramel, coconut, dreamsicle, "rocky road", peppermint, hazelnut, cake batter, Irish cream, vanilla blueberry, etc....
  12. It's the only way I could meet protein goals for the first several months and now that I'm in maintenance it's an easy way to get in all my protein. It allows me to eat more variety of veggies, fruit and whole grains and not have to eat protein for EVERY meal and snack. Even at 28 months out I still have a cupboard full of my favorite protein powders. In fact, I'm sipping on a vanilla Carmel protein smoothie as I type this. 24oz fluids, 30g protein, 200 calories. Win win win. Premier protein is a staple in my fridge. And I pay $25 - $35 for a 2 - 2 1/2 pound jug, so $100 for 3 pounds is a total rip off.
  13. I'd say your sleeve is definitely not ready. I was on liquids for 3 weeks then slowly transitioned through purées and soft food. It was at least 6-7 weeks before I'd even consider eating something like pork, no matter how much I chewed it. It takes 6-8 weeks for your staple line to heal and I treated mine like a newborn baby so I would not tear anything. I certainly wouldn't feed a 2 week old pork! And I never had any nausea or pain or a stuck feeling and I never vomited. Your surgeon's postop plan would have been far too aggressive for me.
  14. Or turn the tables on him and be super "helpful". Offer to give him a copy of the strict diet plan you've had to follow all the way from preop to now. Let him in on the "secret" of measuring and tracking every bite that goes in your mouth. If you use an app like MFP, invite him to join so you can share daily menus. Let him know how important Water and Protein goals are and how staying away from carbs is vital for him to successfully lose weight. Once he sees for himself just how much effort you actually put into your weight loss, he may change his tune. I had a few people smart ass, jealous girls make somewhat similar comments and as soon as I even started talking about what and how little I eat they shut the fuck up and just said "I'd rather be chubby".

    Absolutely not. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's "sparkling", right? Carbonation is a huge no-no postop. If you want probiotics, stick with Greek yogurt or better yet a supplement like Garden of Life Raw probiotics which have 75-100 billion live CFU instead of just the 4 billion you get in Kevita.

    Water, Protein and Vitamins. That's the only "tracking" you need to do right now. The numbers on the scale mean absolutely nothing at this point. Remember, weight loss is not a race, it's for the rest of your life and you can worry about the scale in a few months. I managed to lose over 100% of my excess weight and I don't even own a scale! Good luck. Sip sip sip.
  17. I use 1/2 scoop Protein powder to flavor plain Greek yogurt. Adds 10G of protein without adding any carbs. Quest bars Summer sausage and cheese Cream cheese and a pickle (or olives) rolled up in sliced deli meat Health wise protein chips Simply Protein chips Jerkey
  18. It certainly won't hurt to go with your plan. I was super excited to get started, too. I was also a little concerned that I wouldn't lose the required 5% of my body weight on the 14 day preop. So I started my preop 2 days early. Mine was 3 Protein shakes and unlimited leafy green veggies. Silly me, worried for nothing.... I ended up losing 22 pounds instead of the required 12. But hey, that just put me 10 pounds closer to goal. With all the bitching people do about the preop liquid diet, I've found it a useful tool to help maintain. I have voluntarily reverted back to 3-5 days of Protein Shakes a couple times. Not only do I lose those couple extra pounds, it tends to tighten up my restriction, clear the carbs out of my system and really get my head back in the game if I find myself veering off plan. I say go for it! Be excited and start drinking!
  19. I had one. Removed 3 days postop. Caused a little cramping, but more of an inconvenience than anything. Wore sweats with pockets to have a place to put the bulb and pinned it to the front of my PJ's so I wouldn't roll on it in my sleep. It was actually a nice peace of mind that I could visually confirm I had no internal bleeding or abnormal discharge (i.e. From a leak)

    You CAN have whatever you want. The better question is SHOULD you have it. I personally did not have anything like that (high carb, no nutritive value) until I was well below goal.
  21. Imagine someone who has had open heart surgery, or a hip replacement, or an ACL repair. Do you think the way they feel the first month or two postop bares any resemblance whatsoever to how the will feel at six months or a year or 5 years? Absolutely not. WLS is no different. You just had 85% of a major organ removed. Of course it's gonna suck for awhile. Not sure why you thought it wouldn't. It Took 4 months before I felt "normal".....suffered through diarrhea, then constipation, struggled to eat cause I was always "full", needed IV fluids 3 times for dehydration.....but I still never regretted surgery for a second. I knew these were all just part of the process.
  22. Two years postop and sinking farther and farther into the darkness of depression, I finally sought the help of a therapist. A lot of shit happened in those two years and without food and alcohol to comfort me, I finally hit the wall. Everyone has given very good non-food suggestions on how to deal with stress. Find what works for you, but if you are find yourself struggling, don't hesitate to seek professional help. I know it literally saved my life. Good luck with everything.
  23. I had surgery on a Friday, back to work Thursday. I'm a vet tech and work 10 hour shifts. On my feet all day, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling and lifting. Lab work, surgery assist, holding dogs, carrying cats, wrangling horses, wrestling goats and pigs. I had a 20 pound lifting restriction for 3 weeks so we didn't schedule any large animal appointments or big dog surgeries during that time. Back to lifting 40-60 pound at day 21. I had no problems other than being pretty tired at the end of the day. I was on a full liquid diet for the first 18 days so I just made sure to have plenty of fluids at work to constantly sip in between appointments. I added pureed fruit to my Protein smoothies and that really helped with my energy level.

    Wellbutrin?

    Thanks for the input. Yeah, I haven't really noticed a decrease in appetite. Would have been a nice bonus, but oh well.... At this point I'm just glad I can sleep while taking it, unlike the SSRI's. In the meantime I gotta say the Wellbutrin has been helping. It's by no means the "happy pill" some people speak of, I'm a long ways from experiencing happy sunshine days. But it did brighten my overall outlook from a pitch black hole to maybe a charcoal grey. Life doesn't seem quite so completely unbearable. With my therapist's help and getting my testosterone back in the normal range I'm looking forward to some more grey days.

    Soda

    I could not tolerate water or artificial sweeteners postop. I drank fruit juice, regular vitamin water, mlife water, and regular Gatorade/Powerade, all diluted with water. Also pedialyte, protein shakes, milk, broth and LOTS of decaf herbal teas....both hot and iced. The real sugar never impeded my weight loss and staying hydrated was far more important than trying to stay "low cal". Sipped every minute all day from the moment I woke up and didn't go to bed till I'd gotten in my 64oz.
