December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log
Kindle replied to RunningA5K's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HW 238 SW 216 CW 169 3 pounds down this week. Woohoo -
Slept on my side from the first night after surgery. The biggest "pain" was dealing with the drain I had for 3 days. I ended up pinning the bulb to the front inside of my jammies so I could roll from one side to the other without rolling over it. It was about two weeks before I could sleep flat on my stomach, though. But it was more of feeling bloated than because of any pain. Good luck.

Yes, reglan can cause tardive dyskinesia when used long term. http://www.tardivedyskinesia.com

I would avoid both at that point. Youy stomach incision will be barely healed at that point and the alcohol can be very detrimental to your new, healing stomach, and cigarettes actually impede healing. So the reasons to avoid so soon out are really to avoid leaks and ulcers rather than the usual "empty calories/not good for you" reasons. I had my first wine at 3 1/2 months out and it really didn't affect me at all. But, if you really feel like indulging on the 15, I would maybe experiment in the safety of your own home beforehand to make sure the alcohol or cigarettes don't make you hurl or something. As for non-Water things to drink, I used Mio and Dasani flavor drops, drink dilute organic juices, Propel Zero, Sobe Lifewater, K2O, and Vitamin Water. And of course lots of Protein drinks.

As I've posted in other threads, I originally tried to keep my surgery on the down-low, but the 4 people I told ended up telling the rest of the world, so that didn't work out so well. But the upside is I've had nothing but support and congratulations and positive feedback. Lots of curious questions and it's been nice not to have to lie to people about my weight loss. Anyways, last night we had a girls night at a friends house (where I splurged on the toppings of 1/2 piece of pizza, a couple chips with salsa and a glass of Chardonnay!). We were talking about my recent fecal transplant, hysterectomies, menopause, and another girl's inability to have an orgasm (love girl's night). Towards the end of the night someone was asking something about my surgery. One gal jumped in and asked what surgery? Another girl proceeded to fill her in on the details. She was shocked! "I am SO against this kind of surgery" and "I saw how much weight you lost and I was so proud of you...now I know you just took the easy way out". And you should have seen the look on her face when she found out I had it done in Tijuana! Anyways, I really didn't have to say much, because everyone else jumped in to my defense and she got more grief over not even knowing about my surgery...everyone else in our circle of friends know. It was actually pretty comical. I still don't regret people knowing about my surgery....she is kind of a loon

Anti nausea Meds can do that. I was seeing double even before surgery as soon as they gave it to me IV. I didn't need any anti nausea postop, so vision was normal by the next day.

I know...I'm a vet tech and have done them before. Also done rumen transfaunation, so the procedure seemed quite logical and normal to me And today is two weeks off antibiotics and so far so good.....!

Like NMJG showed above, when you try to go low fat, you usually end up with higher carbs. Check out the label on Fat free 1/2 and 1/2 for another example.... The fat is replaced with corn syrup. Personally, I'll take the fat. And yes, I ate 4% cottage cheese.

How long till you feel normal

You are all right. Prejudice would have been a much more appropriate term to use... Her post insinuated that Mexican Health care is inferior to US, based on one story she heard. And prejudice is defined as "an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason." I apologize for my misuse of words.

Anyone tatse any non-artificailly sweetened protein drinks?
Kindle replied to Ageekygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, be forewarned about the Raw Fit...it does not dissolve completely. It's whole food ingredients, not a processed isolate, so it's more of a suspension. I mix and drink it straight from my blender bottle, and keeping shaking and swirling it as I go. It would settle out if just left in a glass of water. I don't mind the texture, though. -
Has anyone incorporated the NAKED protein shakes in their diet?

becoming increasingly frustrated
Kindle replied to Lamonica2013's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm no doctor, but I think you're doing great. It's not always about the scale. Sounds like you are developing great, healthy workout habits and perhaps building muscle, which weighs a lot more than the fat that you are losing. Are you dropping clothes sizes? I lost a whole pant size during a month long weight stall at 6-10 weeks out, so obviously something was happening. -

So you're upset about "only" losing 50 pounds in 2 months?!? Unfortunately I can't give you any suggestions, because I don't see the problem. You should be happy and proud of your success. And your doctor should go pound sand. -
You will be able to do "normal" stuff soon. You can still go out, do the movie thing, whatever, it just doesn't have to involve eating as much. I've been to girls night out where we had a bunch of munchies and lots of alcohol. I nibbled on the stuff I really liked and since I was the DD, stuck with Water and juice. Been out to a Thai restaurant and pizza joint for birthday parties and enjoyed little bites of everything. Everyone knows I 've had surgery, so my strange eating habits aren't questioned. For your down time, besides the exercise suggestions, maybe pick up a new hobby or start a project that will keep you occupied. As you lose weight, you could use your weekends for mini shopping sprees...Use your Taco Bell money to buy something new to wear. But be careful - I guess you could replace food addiction with a shopping addiction...maybe stick with the thrift stores to minimize the damage

You may end up making your own shakes with unflavored protein powder to avoid all the artificial sweeteners. -

I found this one at my local health food store and on Amazon. It has a nutty flavor and although it does contain stevia, it is not really sweet. It's been a nice break from all the sweet, artificial, whey isolate shakes.... -
I'm really sorry to read such a racist statement. As a matter of fact, my surgeons both have over 15 years of experience, one is a professor of Laparoscopic surgery, has taught at Harvard, and has proctored many US surgeons in bariatric surgery methods. They are both members of the American College of Surgeons and the facility is certified as an International Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation. They have done hundreds of more VSG surgeries than any of the bariatric surgeons within 200 miles of my home. His complication rate for VSG is 1/100 of the published average. The surgical center, medical care, and skills and hospitality of the staff was impeccable. The pre and post op support and instructions have been more than adequate for my success. I had no postop pain, was up and shopping the day after surgery, back to work in a week, and have had no surgical complications whatsoever. My PCP is thrilled with my results and my OB/Gyn has recommended my surgeon to several of her other patients. So no, I have no problems with Mexican health care. (Thanks to Obamacare, I'm sure I'll be going back there again someday.) Good luck with getting your surgery and I hope you have as great of an experience as I have had.

HELP! HELP! Not doing well with weight loss..

Other than what's in my Protein shakes, I don't really track or count or measure anything, so my routine might be a little hard to follow. I'm about 5 weeks further out than you, and I've come pretty far in how much I can consume over the last month...especially liquids. I can take several large gulps at a time now, and a month ago I was still kind of sipping. I also couldn't drink plain Water until this past month. During the week, I'm on the road working, so meals are tuff. I make a large Protein shake for Breakfast (at least 24 oz. and 30g protein) and take and hour or two to drink it in between appointments. Premier Protein chocolate with skim milk and blended banana is my favorite these days. Then I'll have a string cheese stick or Natures Valley Protein Bar (a month ago I could only eat 1/2) for lunch. In the afternoon I make sure I drink a liter of water or better yet a liter of Syntrax nectar (I mix 2 packets in a 32 oz Nalgene bottle which gives me another 46 G protein). Sometimes I'll eat one Chobani Greek yogurt if I have time. When I get home I eat whatever I'm in the mood for...always protein first...tuna, pork loin, crab cake, grilled chicken, hamburger, turkey curry salad, whatever. I don't cook, so most of my meals are whatever yummy thing they have at the local deli. The smallest container they have usually lasts me at least 4 meals before I end up giving the rest to the dogs. I get a few veggies here and there...squash, spinach, green Beans, cucumbers, or at least some V8 juice. I stop eating just before I get too full. I try and get some more liquid in before bed. Sleepy time tea is a stand by. Favorite Snacks are Greek yogurt, cheese slices, and apples with PB2 On the weekends I eat more food and only one protein shake/day. Yesterday I had 1/2 pancake and 1/2 piece turkey sausage, 1 Protein Drink, about 1/2 cup split pea Soup, 1 1/2 pork ribs, 1/4 cup acorn squash, 1/3 apple with PB2, 1 liter of water and Sleepytime tea. I could not have eaten this much and still gotten in enough Fluid a month ago. I learned early on to try and kill two birds with one stone by trying to make everything I drank have some protein in it. I also started hating the taste of artificial sweeteners, so I began drinking diluted organic juices instead of flavoring water with crystal light, Mio, etc. No idea what my calorie/carb/fat/protein numbers are. I really just wing it keeping fluids and protein a priority. Good luck! You can do this. Just find something that works into your busy and demanding schedule. -
Are you getting 60oz+ of protein and at least 64oz fluid? This will help with energy and healing. Pudding and jello have NO nutritional value. Add unflavored protein powder to your soups if you aren't already. Cream soups with Unjury protein, shakes, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese were all still staples for me at 4 weeks. You are still healing....It will get better I didn't feel normal till 3 months out.
-
My preop was 3 protein shakes/ day plus unlimited leafy green veggies. I lost 22 pounds in 16 days! I only weighed 2 times during that time so I couldn't tell you exactly when it all came off. You will be fine if you stick with the plan.

Weight lifting and weight stall...
Kindle replied to shoopaie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you are building muscle, you will gain pounds. But could be losing fat and inches. Are you taking measurements? Are your clothes getting loose? Do you have any way of measuring body fat/lean muscle mass? These would be better indicators of what's going on with your body than just the scale.
