Viral Chest infection and vomiting
Kindle replied to lblondon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Antibiotics won't do anything for a viral infection anyways. -
I'm a gobbler, too. Hello, my name is Kindle, and I scarf my food. I was really good about taking nibble sizes for the first couple months, only because it was uncomfortable not to. After 3-4 months, though, I found myself shoveling the food into my pie hole, especially when I was hungry. The best thing I do now is what thesuse2000 described. Utensil down between bites, chew very well and swallow before picking up the next bite. If I'm eating with friends, I try to pace myself so I finish after they do.

Get in all your protein, eat a balanced diet (protein, fruits, veggies, whole grains), take your vitamins, drink plenty of water and get annual bloodwork (including CBC, complete chem panel, iron, vitamin and mineral panels). You will be healthier than most Americans, even the skinny ones.

Constant Bathroom Issues
Kindle replied to JackieN78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe probiotics (the good multi strain 20 billion + CFU kind that are refrigerated and found at most health or whole food stores) and soluble fiber like benefiber or even canned pumpkin could help bulk things up. -

Is timing of hair loss important?
Kindle replied to Bluesea71's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ree224's explanation seems the most accurate. At least in animals, a traumatic event (anesthesia, severe illness, even pregnancy) can result in complete hairloss but usually within 3 months. If we are experiencing hairloss after this time frame it's probably nutrition-related. I'm over 6 months out and have had no hairloss. I have not taken any special supplements or used special shampoos. I take a whole food based multivitamin, have always been good about getting all my protein, have never limited healthy fats and oils, and once on real foods, have been diligent about eating balanced meals including fruits, veggies and whole grains. -
I mixed Unjury unflavored protein powder into every broth and cream soup I could find....Swansons hot and sour base broth, tortilla soup base broth, chicken broth, beef broth, strained wonton soup, lobster bisque, tomato soup, cream of spinach, cream of asparagus, cream of shrimp, cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cheddar cheese soup, potato leek soup, etc... I diluted and strained the cream soups while on full liquids and ran them through the blender once I was on mushies. And beware not to heat over 140 degrees or the protein will clump.

I feel like crying......weight loss before preop diet?!
Kindle replied to Anewlife2live's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 pound is super easy to lose preop. I lost 22 pounds in 16 days......3 protein shakes/day + unlimited green veggies and water. Do that for 3 days and then limit your water the last day before "weigh in". -
Ok, I was a bit of a stinker, messing with a couple people this week . Early in the week I ran into a client in the post office. He is kind of creepy, always smells of liquor (even at work) and one of those guys you can never get away from once he starts talking. When he saw me, he said "wow, you look so different, what have you done?" I explained I just got a hair cut. (Which I did). My mom was coming for a visit and she hates my long scraggly hair so I got it cut short just for her. He kept going back to the "you look so different" and I kept going on about how much I like my haircut, until I could finally drag myself out to my truck. (with him following me all the way....creepo!) Well that was so much fun, the next day, when another client asked if I had lost weight, I simply said "no, but I sure wish I could". They just stared at me like a deer in the headlights and didn't say anything else. It was all my partner could do to not laugh out loud. I know it's a little mean, but hey, my surgery and weight loss and adventures in diarrhea and fecal transplant have been a topic of interest and entertainment for others for so long I thought I should reap some of the entertainment value, too.

Advice Needed: Week 8, Still Weighing Meals?
Kindle replied to whitegerbera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Other than knowing how much Fluid I drink and how much Protein is in my shakes (which I still drink once/day) I have never measured or tracked or counted anything. I eat balanced meals of protein and veggies. I snack on protein, fruit and whole grains. I eat when I'm hungry (about every 3 hours) and I eat until I'm satisfied, not full. I drink my Water and take my Vitamins. I decided even before having surgery that the whole measuring/counting thing was not for me. Might as well be on a regular diet, and I was having this surgery so I didn't have to ever be on a diet again. I know my way might not be for everyone, but by keeping it simple, I was able to hit my goal (and beyond) without the all the number-related stress and drama. -
I've always preferred whole food based vitamins over chemically synthesized vitamins. They provide a lot of micronutrients, cofactors, enzymes, etc. that enhance absorption, bioavailability and who knows what else science hasn't even figured out yet. I take Garden of Life Vitamin Code for Women - 2 capsules/day. (Which is 1/2 the recommended dose). If you don't want to do capsules, Source of Life Gold is also really good and has liquid, chewable and tablet forms. I also take a B12 sublingual and a D3 5000 gel cap 3x week. My 6 month bloodwork was perfect.

So I normally weigh myself at work on Fridays, but I missed last week because I didn't work that day. So I stepped on the scale this morning and I was at my personal goal of 150 (10 pounds below surgeon's goal)!!! I was super surprised because I actually expected a slight gain after all the crap I munched on over the holiday weekend....apple pie, chips, corn on the cob, margaritas, and strawberry shortcake. (after getting in all my Protein and Water and Vitamins, of course ) I guess that means I'm officially in maintenance. But since I'm not feeling deprived of any foods and already eat as much as I want, I won't really be doing anything different. Yeehaw!

My Mexico surgeon required 2 months of 40mg Omeprazole (which he sent home with me) after that I weaned to 20mg for a couple weeks, and with no GERD symptoms he told me to discontinue. I occasionally took Rolaids or Maalox after that, but haven't taken any in at least a month. Just over 6 months out.

Plain Fage contains pasteurized skim milk and live yogurt cultures. THAT IT. I use protein powder, Torani SF syrups or puréed berries or fruit for flavor. Much healthier and less crap than all the flavored yogurts out there, and I can control the sweetness.

50-60% Excess weight loss in 2 years

BRAVO!! This should be the BP motto and EVERYONE should be required to repeat it to themselves everyday. And it should be written on stone tablets and hung at an official annual scale burning party. -
50-60% Excess weight loss in 2 years
Kindle replied to *Jade*'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Depends on what numbers you use to calculate your excess body weight. According to the Hamwi formula, I should weigh 125. (Which is fuc ... ing ridiculous, BTW). In that case, I've only lost 78% of my excess body weight. But if you use my surgeons goal weight, I've lost 113% of my excess weight! and if you use my goal, which is normal BMI I've lost 100%. -
I always thought of myself as a thin, fit, strong person trapped under 100 pounds of fat. So this surgery has helped the real me finally show through. Are your "friends"doing the exact same things and feel the exact same way as they did 10 - 20 years ago? If they can't truly say that then they are mean hypocrites by telling you it's not possible. Tell your "friends" to GFT and go find some more evolved people to hang out with

Should i be drinking more of my protein drink?
Kindle replied to sawzaw's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There is No or very little fat in fish, chicken, lean beef, nonfat cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, etc. besides, our bodies need fat for proper cell development and vitamin absorption. I've never limited my fat intake post op and eat "fatty" proteins like nuts and cheese and avocados everyday. In fact, once I hit surgeon's goal, I added more fat into my diet (switched from skim to 2% milk, nonfat to 4% cottage cheese, etcetera.) and I still lost 10 pounds in the last 5 weeks. That being said, I eat 5-6 times a day, but have such good restriction I can't reach protein goals without a shake, even 6 months postop. I have a 24-32oz smoothie with at least 30g protein everyday. Double bonus for protein and fluids. I'm not sure why some doctors don't want patients having protein drinks. Whey isolate is the purest, most absorbable form of protein there is.
