How are we going to do this? Will we post updates as we go along? I set my goal to lose 20 lbs. I hope I make it to that as I'm an extremely slow loser. I'm going to work hard at it though. I need this to motivate me. :whoo: -
Last night I had the weirdest sensation. I was laying in bed on my side with a pillow propped against my belly for support (only been a week since band was put in) and I could feel my stomach grumbling like I had air bubbles rolling around in there. Then I felt what I could only explain as an air bubble slipping through the port hold up into the pouch. I'm afraid maybe it was actually the band slipping. Do they slip that easy?

Okay, faith, that definitely doesn't sound appetizing at all. lol Yuck! Sounds like something I jokingly posted once about asking whether you could puree pizza. lol It's the one thing I can't wait to eat a slice of when I get to eat real food again.

Hi everyone! I'm a lapband newbie too. I was banded June 21, 2007, at Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti, MI by Dr. Poplowski. They were really great with me there. I was supposed to go home the first day, but had to stay overnight due to some unrelenting nausea episodes and excessive drowsiness. I was glad to stay overnight though. It helped me to know they were there if I needed anything. I just got to start my puree/mushee stage yesterday. I'll be on it for two weeks and then I get to go to soft foods that can be easily chewed. I made some tuna fish yesterday and ate a little yesterday and a little today. Today it made it down, but then it kinda got uncomfortable in my stomach. As soon as I stood up, it went away. I'll have to remember that next time that feeling comes. I'm down 11 lbs so far. I wish it were a tad bit more, but I've been a slow loser due to PCOS, so I'll take whatever I can get. I'm so glad to find this forum!

Trying to decide whether to do this or not
dacer123 replied to melstl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course, ultimately, the choice is yours to make. However, here's my 2 cents. I never had much luck with diet plans and would always end up off the wagon within a few days. I once lasted several months, but that's not the norm for me. I now look at the band as a tool to use to help keep me honest with my diet. I'm two weeks out from my surgery and at first I thought "oh no, what have I done," but that passed. I'm really liking the band. I'm not liking the post op diet phases until I get to real food, but I'm trying to be patient with it. I think you might want to do a lot of research that you can show your family and support people in your life to show them that it does work. We all have to keep in mind that the band works as well as we work it. If we cheat a lot, then it will eventually not help. My problem has always been portion control, so I think it will work for me. Good luck in your decision. Either way you decide to go, you'll definitely need people to be supportive. -
Hi everyone! I was banded June 21st and I'm down 9 lbs so far. I'm still on liquids for a few more days and then I get to go to pureed foods. It's been tough watching everyone else while I drink my meal, but I'm not giving up. It's going to seem so weird to finally be losing weight and getting healthy with more energy. I can hardly wait! Please help me with protiens!!!
dacer123 replied to Bamalama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just my 2 cents, but when I was struggling to get my protein in (and sometimes I still do) and not really liking any of the protein powders I was trying, my nutritionist suggested a serving of nonfat milk powder in my carnation instant breakfast along with my skim milk. I've been doing that everymorning and usually end up with at least 22 grams of protein right off the bat. I like it and it costs so much more less. -
Thanks so much! I think you're right too.

I was just talking with my nutritionist earlier today about my issues with the protein powder. She suggested instead to try nonfat dry milk powder instead of the protein powder. Of course, I couldn't add it to everything, but it would dissolve better than protein would and add 8 grams of protein per serving. Have any of you been told to do this?

nonfat dry milk powder

I just noticed we're from the same area and had our surgery the same day. I'm from the Flint area (a little north of Flint actually). I had my band at the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti. What a coincidence! How are you doing since your surgery? -
Is there a protein powder that disolves?
dacer123 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm struggling with my protein powder at the moment. I don't have a small fortune to spend on trying all the different types of protein out there. I hate the gritty protein powders that don't disolve in my smoothies and such. Does anyone have any suggestions for protein powder that disolves, especially if it comes unflavored so I can use it in more things without altering the taste? -
I was banded on June 21st and I feel like a zombie. I don't like the protein powder I got, so I'm going to try to find another one I like. I hate the gritty texture of it or the vitamin taste. I feel like my head is in a fog, which I'm sure is from the lack of food. It's going to be a long two weeks of full liquids for sure. Plus my port site hurts and so does my back. In fact, I can't hardly sleep at night because my back hurts. Does anyone have any suggestions for this stage? Does this last a long time? :think
