    Early August Late July Sleevers

Sleeved July 25. I've been losing pretty steadily. Not super speedy, but I'm happy enough. Are you drinking Protein too? I've had to remind myself (often) that there's no way I can eat all the protein I need, and my surgeon says "forever" we need to drink about 60 grams-worth a day to add to what we can get through eating.

    Any Regrets?

I too had major regret in the first few days, but every day has been better than the last and the only thing I regret now is that I wasted five years with the lapband instead of succeeding with the sleeve!

    Down 105.4!

Wow, you look like a different person! Cute either way, but healthier now!

    Breaking up protein?

I was told (and I've read elsewhere) that the body can only absorb about 30 grams of protein at a time, so breaking it up is a better idea than chugging (like we can!) it all at once.

    Little victory, big meaning

I want to be there! Congrats.

    Mental Hunger?

Oh man, I couldn't watch any TV except for home & garden shows for the week after surgery - any picture of food felt like it was directly designed to torment me and only me. It does get better, promise. Tho I occasionally want to throttle my husband when he comes home and instantly has his snack of gingersnaps. (And I don't even like gingersnaps that much!)

    So close :)

Could you do COBRA and so keep your current insurance for a month or two, just to get yourself through surgery?

    Egg protein powder

I tried Jay Robb's egg protein powder and couldn't stand the taste. But YMMV.
  9. Yes, I can say I came to know croissants very well during our 2 weeks in Paris last month - and pain au chocolat and palmiers and various other little treats. Butter is healthy, right?

    Stairs NSV

You go girl! Take that old lady *down*!

When do you know how far to progress after surgery

I was cleared for weight-lifting after 6 weeks, but am still working on stamina for high-endurance efforts like HIIT or 20+ miles cycling. It's tough getting in enough fuel.

    How much?

What Peggy said. I ended up returning several containers of protein powders because I couldn't take the sweetness post-surgery. Get yourself some unflavored powders and lots of samples - nearly all the bariatric sites offer sample sizes.

    Rant about myself?!?!

Eh, if somebody doesn't like it, they don't have to read. Your posts are worth the reading.

    My big fat bucket list

Neener, neener, neener. Last year on a 3-week vacation to France & Italy I ate at least that much Nutella after I had my first-ever taste in Paris. We went back last month and this time I only lifted a jar (and not even the biggest jar!) for a pic. I was pretty pleased. Another 10 lbs and I'll take another pic for you, Laura! Lisa B

    selfie update

Wow. Did it just get really hot in here or is it just me? You look great, congratulations!

    Regretting surgery

Oh sweetie, I'm sorry you're feeling bad now. But it won't last. Every day really is better than the previous. And pretty soon you'll be losing weight. The beginning is hard, I know, but it is oh so worth it. And if you don't believe me, take a look at the pictures on here, read some of the vets' posts, and remember: pretty soon you won't have a belly to hold!

    Cant eat poultry ?

I can't do chicken either. I asked the PA about this and she said chicken tended to be more fibrous/stringy and so harder to digest. I can't grasp how beef would be less fibrous, but my sleeve seems to think so! Stupid thing has a tiny little mind of its own most days.
  18. Off to a good start! Congrats and keep sipping (and walking)! Welcome to the club.
  19. I had pain for about a week, and I second the recommendation to keep up on your pain pills - set a timer. I don't know of anyone who has been able to get in all the fluids or Protein immediately after surgery, you'll need to keep working at it. It'll be a gradual progression. Most of all, congratulations and welcome to the club.

    post op appt ..

Tough love, huh? Yeah, not so useful for us grown ups, I think. 17 lbs in two weeks is great, but the recommendation to walk more is a good one, too. It's a big increase for you right now, but I'll bet you can work up to it. How far out from surgery are you?

    Wine

    My surgeon recommends six months.

    Psychotherapy

Coming from from you, someone I find well wittier and smarter than most, I love the compliment, thank you! The job search has put me in a funk over the last few days and that was the other thing - therapy lady made a comment about how much harder it is to get hired when unemployed over 50. I mean, yes, I am sarcasm girl (er, wizened hag), but jeez! Thanks for making me feel better Mme. R.

    anti-inflammatory diet

I've tried but not very successfully. I've used Kathy Abascal's Anti-Inflammatory Diet book and lectures. She may have some good ideas for you.

    Sleevers by profession.

Thank you! They're fun to make and very popular.

Tired of women leaving me for the "cute skinny guy"

OP: what was the common denominator in each of the three women (besides you )? If it's something changeable, maybe it's time to branch out!
