What makes one doc in Mx charge 6800 for all inclusive sleeve surgery meanwhile many others do same thing for 4800 and less? All have drivers come get you from airport. You and a guest have accommodations etc, what's the difference? This is the only thing that scares me about Mx.

Has anyone heard anything or experienced southwest bariatrics? I just found out the hospital my doc uses isn't on my insurance company's approved list. So now I've got to start over with consultations and whatever this new doctor may require.

I met with dr obi. and the other staff. I like them very much. I'm dreading this 6 month diet but I am looking forward to the procedure. -
As anyone used this doctor? Or gone to wise regional hospital? I'm having to start from scratch and I need to research all I can on doctors people say are good.

My first Appt With Dietitian An Dr.
Lady Denham replied to Rach34's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been told they use your initial weight. Of course if you ended up with a bmi of 30 or so after dieting I wouldn't be surprised if they would deny you. They could be like if she can lose that much with dieting then she may not be the best candidate. My bmi is 41, I'm not losing more than 6 pounds. Of course I physically could but I know my insurance company doesn't require that I actually lose anything except maybe one pound. Some insurance companies want you to lose 10 % of your weight. -
Just left my initial consultation. Met with doctor, dietician, and insurance coordinator. This visit counted as my first month visit for my doctor supervised diet. Will do psych eval over the phone and since my surgeon is thee hours away they said my PCM in my city can do the 2nd-5th diet visits. They will submit everything in April since my final diet visit has to be with them in Dallas. Hoping for a late April or early May surgery date. Think in all it's going to cost me 4500 with insurance since the doctor isn't in network but the hospital is. My journey started in July and this is my second doctor due to insurance network issues. Not starting over again..... Can't wait to get that approval !!! 6 mos is super long but by then I will be able to take off a month with pay. I'm so grateful about that:)

No thyroid !?
Lady Denham replied to meaganchuckran's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too don't have a thyroid. I'm sure it will work. No doctors have even mentioned a slower rate of loss due to not having one! -

I'm hoping to get sleeved in April. I had to start over with a new doctor recently. I have no idea what to expect for a supervised diet. -
I found out today that the hospital my doctor performs the gastric surgery at is NOT on the centers of excellence list of approved hospitals. So now I have to start over with a new doctor; he or she may have an entirely different list of requirements. I now see how people can get inpatient and go to TJ. I don't have time for another round of hoop jumping

My psych eval is costing me 377 with insurance. If my new potential doc doesn't require it that is $$ that could go towards my copay. My insurance company doesn't require a psych eval or nutrition screening. Those two requirements were my previous doctors criteria. I was really hoping to have surgery scheduled in the next two weeks...

I haven't been told the price yet. I'm not self pay but I'd guess 12,000 or so but self pay is always cheaper. -

six month waiting period driving me crazy!
Lady Denham replied to Sofficial's topic in Insurance & Financing
I'm obsessed with getting my surgery as well. I've already had my initial consultation, NUT appointment and my psych eval is in 7 days. If I have to wait six months I will be upset knowing I could have it sometime next month. I'm so ready for this I'm thinking about going to Mexico. I live in TX so it's not far. Hubby isn't onboard with the Mx idea. Still not ruling it out. BMI is 40 I hope they approve me on my first try. I have government employee insurance. -
Has anyone heard anything about or been a patient of Dr. Senthil Sankaralingam?
