August Sleevers...how are you doing? Any friends near Monterey?
debmd replied to MontereyMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Aug8. My original weight was 245, day of surgery I was 229. I gained 4 lbs after surgery. Today I weigh 215. Not the numbers I would have expected but I am being patient. I walk 45 minutes a day and average 800 calories a day now with Protein shakes and puree. My average protein intake is 50-75 grams. Water is the hardest thing to get in I find so I have been having herbal decaf tea to ensure I get enough Fluid. I am taking a multi Vitamin, Iron, Calcium as directed by my nutritionist. I had expected to be down a lot more than 14 lbs in almost a month but I think everyone is different. As my Dr said, some have more to lose and some lose differently than others depending on age etc so we can't compare ourselves. I am off work for another week because I have been dealing with extreme fatigue. I have moments where I just feel horrible and have to lie down that are very unpredictable. I hope this ends soon. -
Divorce rate..post op
debmd replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just for the record my husband of 24 years has been saying that he thinks I am going to lose weight and leave him. He is insecure because he has had me a certain way for many years. I think the surgery is only going to make both of our lives better. -
Divorce rate..post op
debmd replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe marriage is hard work and not always something everyone is committed to doing. Whatever your trouble, I hope that you take the time to make sure it's the right decision. Divorce stats are high and if you have kids it will be harder for their whole lives and yours. Not that a person should stay in a bad marriage but it has effect on everyone. Counselling is a good place to start so you can express some of your concerns with the safety of having another person there to listen and to help you both. Good luck -
why do people hide it?
debmd replied to KayCTheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's a personal choice. I told a few co-workers who I consider friends. I also shared with my immediate family and a few close friends. But not everyone from my work and not all my friends. I only chose the people I knew would be supportive. But, I think with anything if you tell more than one person there is always a chance that it will get out anyway. I have nothing to hide and am really blessed and proud to have had the courage to follow through with the surgery. The only thing that would hurt me would be people watching what I eat after and questioning it or people who say "she lost weight but she had it easy because she had surgery." Its a ton of hard work and dedication. -

My diet plan from my NUT is 2 weeks liquids including at least 60 g protein. After that it is soft mushy foods, everything must be pureed. I think as long as you puree you can have mostly anything except beef is not recommended for a while. Also no rice, bread or pasta for at least 6 months

I had my sleeve Aug 8. down only 8 lbs since surgery as I had left the hospital with a weight gain of 4 lbs. I am very tired and weak and find I get short of breath easily. I started preop at 240 and am now at 221. I wish I could be skinny right away too but realize this is a patience thing. I am very thankful to have this opportunity so don't want to mess anything up. I have been walking for 40 minutes a day but other than that I am recovering. 1 more week of liquid diet and then I start mushy foods. I have a wedding on Saturday and it will be hard when the buffet line starts. Haven't figured out what I will do, probably go sit in the car LOL

I plan on taking 4 weeks off but my employer is very good about time off and I get sick pay so it is much easier. I also am a bit of a baby when it comes to pain. My surgery is in two days
