Hair Loss - A Harsh Reality. Picture of Loss.
BookWorm replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm losing the exact same amount and it started around 3 1/2 months. I have a ton of thick hair so I don't think (maybe I'm in fantasy land) it is that noticable. I bought a shampoo w/ Biotin; however, I haven't noticed it helping. Your not alone. -
My biggest (and only) disappointment with WLS
BookWorm replied to Sassy Pants1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Heartburn. I never had heartburn until the surgery. Not that I would go back. -
Pre-op diet starts today!
BookWorm replied to Jen40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First 4-5 days will be bad, not going to lie. You have to keep yourself very busy. When you feel the urge to cheat (cause you will), get up and walk or do some activity. After day 5, its much easier and managable. -
My DR requires a 2 day stay for everyone; however, I had some blood issues (I'm on blood thinners) and had to stay an extra day (3 days total).

Your Weight - A national security secret ?
BookWorm posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about you all, but prior to surgery nobody knew my weight. Not my husband, not my kids, not my doctor (I refused to get on the scale when I went in, I just provided an estimate), not the state for my driver’s license (again a low estimate). My weight could have been considered a national security secret. Now, post surgery I find myself telling everyone how much I weigh. Have I reached my goal? Nope, but it doesn't stop me. People ask me all the time how much weight Ive lost and I respond back with my current weight. They look at me like, that's not what I asked you. Anyone else find themselves doing this? Is your weight no longer a national security secret? -
Getting up and out of the bed will be worse then the stairs. Any use of your stomach muscles is what's gonna hurt. I slept in my recliner for 2 days and was fine after that. I agree with the above. sleep at home in your own bed. It will be worth it.

I didn't give up my caffeine just the forms in which I consume it. I used to be a huge soda and coffee drinker (high calorie coffee, i.e. Caramel Latte). Now I drink hot and cold tea w/ splenda. I get my caffeine fix without the calories.

Struggling and depressed. Does it get better?
BookWorm replied to wwled's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem and it does get better. sugar free popsicles helped. Freeze your liquids and then lick / suck on them. That way you get the Fluid but don't get the feeling / act of consumption. -
Driving...Post Operation
BookWorm replied to survivingsleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, I drove the day after I got home. I was supposed to wait 1 week until my 1 week post op check-up; however, like you I have 3 kids and a full-time job. The biggest challenge will be when your turning or when you have to lean forward to see aroung a curve or something. -
Disgusted and embarrassed!

100 pounds down in 8 3/4 months!
BookWorm replied to Wags's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's Great! I'm running a 5k in April with friends and bought matching camo tanks and butterfly wings. (a tutu was our other option). Hope I'm not far behind in posting I'm down 100lbs. Awesome job -
So funny, I had this same moment. I'm now in a size 14 big, size 12 a little tight and I had to ask a friend where to go to shop. I've shopped in the plus size stores for so long I'm having a hard time walking into a regular size store and feeling comfortable and not lost.

Common comments after weightloss surgery
BookWorm replied to Stephannie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had a co-worker tell me yesterday that I was too skinny and needed to stop losing wight and start eating. (Little does she know I have 40 more lbs to go and I'm far from skinny). -
Question for those who had lower start BMI/under 100 pounds to loose
BookWorm replied to Bluesea71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, here we go. I am 5'5 and I was 236lbs prior to surgery. I have 3 kids and horrible stretch marks. At one point my OBGYN told me that it looked like a bear had clawed my stomach. (Yeah, they are that bad) According to my doctor, I should weigh around 138-140lbs. I have to tell you, I will never be that small because I am large boned and I would look sickly if I was that small. So my goal is really 150lbs (still considered overweight by medical standards). If I can reach 150, I will be happy. I am almost 5 months post op and I weigh 174lbs (this morning). The only problem area with reference to saggy skin are my arms and my breasts (i breast fed all of my children for 1 year each). I work out faithfully everyday running 4-5 miles. I have weeks where the scale won't move and others where I lose like 6 lbs. Has it been as fast as I would like (NO); however, am I being unreasonable, yes! 60lbs in 5 months is good and I'm trying to be happy with that. I will say that the next 25 are proving to be difficult. (longer stalls) However, I am the heathiest that I have ever been and I'm happy with that. -
How many months in before you committed to exercise?
BookWorm replied to uwillwillu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spent 2 days in the hospital when I had surgery. The day after I got home I started walking. I workout faithfully everyday! I'm now almost 5 months out and I run 5-6 miles a day. Your ultimate long-term success is going to be dependent upon exercising. Good Luck! -
Wasn't worried at all until the day of surgery. Like others, started to have a mini panic attack. I remember laying in the bed after I got my IV thinking, how the hell could I have let myself get to a point that I am laying here getting cut open and my stomach taken out? While I was committed to the change prior to surgery, that moment was the game changer for me. This surgery will be the best thing you ever do for yourself. Just keep that in mind when those doubts creep in and find your life changing moment that is goind to keep you going through this journey!

Does your insurance company have an on-line benefits guide? While I called my insurance company to get the requirements and information regarding the surgery what I found most helpful is that the information in writing wasn't disputable. I wish you the best of luck. It only took me 2 days to receive approval from my insurance company. Here's hoping that it is just as speedy for you!

This is normal, don't freak out. Your body has been through a lot and I hate to break it to you but this will be one of many stalls you face in this journey. What does your exercise regiment look like? It's still early, but I would start as soon as you can with beginning an exercise program. Be sure to change things up. Walk, run, bike, treadmill, elliptical, Yoga, etc. Steadily increase your calorie burn rate. Again, its early but as you incorporate food make sure you increase your Protein and change up on your protein rich foods. What I have found is that you have to change up the routine, both food and exercise to get things moving again.

How many sizes have you dropped?!?
BookWorm replied to rensterness's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Before surgery I wore a size 18 tight and size 20 comfortably. I can fit in both a size 12 and 14 depending on the name brand. I've seen several comment regarding "the girls". Unfortunately, I have similar problems to some of the others. While my back size of my bras has decreased from 42 to 36, my cup size has stayed the same at a DD and I would love to be a C or B. I too find that I have to buy a larger top to accommodate the bust. -
Heartburn - Does it get better?
BookWorm replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, it doesn't get better. Recommend that you talk to your doctor about getting prescribing an acid blocker. -
I was sleeved on October 4. Some things that I would share for those in October that haven't gone yet: 1. You will have buyers remorse. Just stick with it because everyday gets better and better. 2. You must get up and walk as soon as possible despite it being the last thing you want to do. 3. Getting out of bed, coughing, sneezing, etc sucks really bad. Oh, and getting in and out the car when you leave the hospital. 4. I know this sounds crazy but get off the pain killers as soon as possible. You will be so pumped with gas and fluids you will feel bloated and disgusting. For the ladies I compare this to how you felt after the baby expelled itself from your womb. If you need meds take children's Advil liquid form. 5. I know people say sip, sip, sip and trust me it gets annoying but it's the ony way your going to get near enough to your goal. Good luck everyone!
