Decided on the surgery when I was 44 years old and 261 lbs. Married, 3 kids in middle school. Started the process in February and had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 24th. Couldn't tolerate pain meds so didn't take any except for 2 doses in hospital. Post-op issues: severe right shoulder pain (CO2 leaving body), dizziness/headache in mornings upon awakening (HYPOGLYCEMIA), trouble focusing vision close up, pain at staples when burp/hiccup/cough. But after 4 days post op was getting 64 ounces milk/clear liquid in and I had very little discomfort. Could roll around in bed, sleep on my tummy. I desperately wanted to taste something other than milk and tea and water. I hated jello and broth so I lived on milk and tea.
