Hi all, I am in Red Deer and going to get sleeved on September 10, 2013 by Dr. Valenzuela in Tijuana, Mexico. I saw there were some Red Deer and Calgary sleevers here. I go to Calgary often so I'm interested in hearing from both cities: who was your follow-up doctor? I'm worried my family doctor will not be on board. :/ Also, are there any support groups you can recommend?

I'm so glad we can claim it through Alberta Health (and that we have evidence via alanah that they actually do pay out!). I wonder how much we will get back on our income tax?

You find a surgeon you want and you set it up. They do want you to do a 2-3 week pre-op diet though to shrink your liver and that's pretty much it. As for cost, it depends on the surgeon. I am going to Dr. Valenzuela in Tijuana. The cost for my surgery is US$4500. I had two colleagues from Saskatchewan who went to Dr. Aceves and Dr. Alvarez. They cost about US$8700. They have had no problems at all, one a 30 year old woman and the other a mid 40s man.

Congrats on finally getting referred! Unfortunately I have no idea what the answer to your question is. I am in Alberta but I'm going to Mexico next month/self-pay.

Thanks! My coordinator is Cindy. She has been awesome. Very quick to respond to anything and everything, phone or email. I will probably make a post once I am there and do a play by play update. Or maybe even make a twitter. I wish more people would do that! It certainly helps to know what's going on beforehand and what people's impressions are.

I'm having the surgery September 10th. It's Dr Valenzuela/Mi Doctor for me. Can't wait! I'm worried about my pre-op diet. I have to lose about 5-10 lbs which isn't that much but what if I lose too much??

I am booked for a sleeve with Dr. Valenzuela on September 10th. I need a lose a bit of weight beforehand but I think I can do it easily. It's only about 10 lbs.
