  1. Hello fellow sleevers, I came home yesterday. It's great to be here. I have some pain issues, mostly related to gas/constipation. I switched to liquid tylenol as they said the narcotics could be a constipation culprit. What are you all having to drink post surgery. Today I have 4 ounces of clears, and 4 ounces of protien every hour. Not even coming close. Worried about dehydration, as nurse said that is why most people come back to hospital after surgery. Would love to hear from you all.
  2. I'm 4 days out,and I have the same problem. Hospital said narcotic pain killers are a big culprit. I am trying to keep the clear fluids goings, and stay hydrated. I'm walking. Starting yesterday, (once I was home and wiih Dr's. okay I started a stool softener, and a gummy Fiber chew. I'm letting the fiber chew melt in my mouth before I swallow it. I also moved to liquid Tylenol which seems to be managing the pain ok. Moving into the TMI category, I have passed some gas, and just a little liquid poo-twice. Labels said it could take 12 to 36 hours to work, so I'm just hoping. That's actually the cause of my worst pain right now. Good luck everyone.
  3. Good luck SleevinIT. I got mine Monday, and it is such a relief to be on the other side. Bring chapstick a' ay they added milk, and yesterday they added Glucerna. They gave me medicine cups, and a check off sheets. First day post surgery was 2 ounces of clear every hour. Next day was 2 ounces, 1 clear, 1 milk an hour. Yesterday was 4 ounces an hour, 2 clear, 2 milk or glucerna. Today and until my post op it's 4 clears, 4 shake/milk an hour. It remains at 8 ounces an hour until I have my postop appointment on Tuesday. I moved off the narcotic painkiller and on to plain liquid tylenol. I've felt constipated since day 1. I also feel hungry, but haven't been drinking my Protein the way I should. I'm trying to get that down now. Just don't want it. I'm on Prilosec for the gas. Getting up walking every hour, just a few laps around the house. You'll do great, I'm so glad to be sharing this journey with all of you. Thanks sleevinIT for starting this thread.

    Why Am I So Hungry?

I was sleeved Monday and I have the same thing. I have Prilosec that I'm supposed to take for 90 days. I haven't been able to driink my Protein shakes yet, but am hoping they will help. It's a weird hunger, because when I'm faced with the food it doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm having a hard time keeping up with my clears to stay hydrated. So I'm hungry and don't want to eat. LOL. I'm going to try some Protein shake now, lets see if it settles.
  5. I agree with all the suggestions above, there are some great ideas. I am a personal fan of mirroring. First I would just tell her the questions are very personal, and you are working very hard to become healthy, and you find her repeated questions disruptive to your health. I would suggest Google or My Fitness Pal, Spark People, (although that could be risky-she might want to friend you). Then if she persists, you could either say, simply, "Sorry, you're crossing the line, your repeated questions are harassment, and I don't care to answer that." Then I would think about whatever area of her life she struggles with (Nosiness LOL), and for every embarrassing question she asks you, reply with a question that she'll find embarrassing. Doesn't have to be about weight. Maybe she has a troubled relationship, her children are always in trouble.
  6. Thank you all for sharing. I had a band journey, and now I have a sleeve journey. I know from the band that it is not all easy peasy beautiful. It's a struggle and emotionally challenging. I'm 2 days out of my sleeve surgery and find myself scouring these boards. You are real, you are honest, and I'm proud to be able to share my journey with all of you. I realize I'm not alone in this battle, that others have done it, are doing it, and are, despite it all, winning the war. I don't even "know" you folks, but I value and honor your input, honesty and caring. Big group hug!
  7. Another December 9th sleever here. Heading into the TMI area. I feel like I'm in bondage, Left arm has blood pressure and Left hand has IV. Right Finger has oxygen sensor, and Right wrist has 3 hospital bracelets, Nose has oxygen tube in each nostril. Legs have cuffs to prevent blood clots. Stomach has the bandages and I have a drain. Got my pain pump, and call button, and other room controls. Have my laptop and phone plugged in. Whew. And I have had to pee... a lot,so every time I have to go, I have to get unhooked from it all. Plus it takes forever to actually start going. I also Nurse game me omeprazole thru IV and that's generated lots of burping. Able to have ice chips but if I over indulge I get nauseous. Over indulge being about 15 ice chips. And I'm HUNGRY. That scares me, thought the hunger would be gone. Oh yeah, my scalp is itchy and dry. On the plus side my little cheats (the chicken and carrots in my "broth". The few ounces of turkey with a tablespoon each of potato, stuffing, squash and cranberry sauce. The 1/2 scrambled egg at lunch the day before surgery.. Those cheats did not come back to haunt me. I have a private room, Moving over to the post surgery threads, but wants to let you folks know it wasn't that bad. My complaints are all minor compared with my health issues due to obesity. Soooooooo glad to have done this. Good luck everyone, and see you on the other side~ Moving to the loser's bench. Can't wait till you join us there. Going back to sleep as soon as the nurses do their thing.

    Sleeved Yesterday 12/9-Tmi

Doing okay today, some gas pains, problem with the drain. Can't quite bring myself to drink the ounce of milk I'm supposed to every hour today. Keeping down an ounce of tea, Water, broth every hour ok. Jello doesn't appeal at all and had a problem with it yesterday, so haven't touched that again. Waiting to see if I can go home this afternoon or if they will keep me another day. Still feel constitpated, but they don't want to give me anything for it yet. Never had a catheter. Drain is coming out later today. Glad of that cause yesterday it dripped everywhere when I went to the restroom. Definitely glad I brought chapstick. Had a friend bring me tea bags, as the meal folks brought hot water, no tea for 2 meals yesterday, and some spicy Tazo cinnamon pepper tea for the other. Did not even open it. Fortunately there are decaf tea bags on the floor, so the nurses have just brought me one of those. I have to get cleared by respiratory ( I have a CPAP), PT, who gave me a cane for my stairs yesterday, and Endocrinologist since I'm type 2 diabetic. Then we'll see if I can go home.
  9. I just got my sleeve yesterday and I'm so glad I did. I was so happy when I got my date, and although the preop diet was not fun but I got thru it. I'm sure the next few weeks will be tough. But I already feel better from losing weight on my preop. I am so looking forward to continuing to lose weight and lose this humongous belly. I appreciate the constipation tips, because I can feel the beginnings of that starting, and now I know to get ahead of it. I'll pick up some Fiber stuff on my way home from the hospital.
  10. Best of luck with your surgery. I'm a revision too, and had my surgery yesterday. You'll do fine, I'm surprised how well I'm doing. I think the band surgery was a lot worse.

Yup less than 24 hours out actually! Feeling a bit spacy at the moment. The one bite of lemon Jello did not settle well. Doing great otherwise

Sabredy12 you'll do great. I was a wreck before the surgery, but once I arrived at the hospital, I felt confident I was in great hands. From the admission process, through surgery, and now as an inpatient, every employee I've encountered was reassuring, patient and knowledgeable. Think positive thoughts and remember what you are doing for yourself. I can't wait to lose my giant gut. All my fat is around my belly. My pre op diet was 3 carnation instant breakfasts, (sugar free essentials), one small fruit, and one greek yogurt or sugar .free pudding. As much Jello and sugar free popsicles and non caffeinated teas as I wanted. Day 1 post surgery, 2 ounces of Clear liquids an hour, decaf tea, Water, broth or jello. The jello did not settle well at all. I had one teeny bite and haven't been able to eat since. You'll do great.

  15. My surgery was yesterday too, and although I'd been pretty calm right up to the day before, I did hit freak out when I went to bed the night before.I was afraid I wouldn't wake up if I went to sleep~Pleased to say surgery went smoothly and I only have some minimal issues. I posted those in the Dec 9th sleevers thread. Best of luck Carlotta1, let us know how you are doing.

    December 9Th Sleevers

  18. So today is my surgery day. I've already had to cut my NPH in half, and then reduce the bedtime from 64 to 30. My morning NPH has gone from 64 to 32. I haven't had to use my Novolog since day 2. Still taking 1.8 Victoza, and 2 Extended Release 500 mg Metformin twice a day. My sugars went berserk the first few days of Protein shakes, like 280! Since then the highest I've see in 138! Lost 14 pounds on the liquid diet. Took 20 NPH and my victoza earlier. Nothing tomorrow morning. Surgery is at 11/:30. Let me know how you all are doing.
  19. Happy Birthday! Thank you so much for sharing your story. Today is my day to be sleeved. Less than 12 hours from now I should be on the loser's bench. Yay. Your story was very reassuring, and reinforced my decision to do this. Thank you again.
  20. OMG, It's December 9, and my day to be sleeved. Slightly nervous, more afraid he'll open me up and decide he can't do the surgery for some reason. We put up our Christmas tree tonight, and I cleaned the house. Like everyone else I'm afraid I'll have complications, but I know this is the right thing for me. Sure am hoping my Thanksgiving cheat won't come back to haunt me. I've also eaten the chicken and carrots in my broth! No noodles or rice though. Had half a scrambled egg yesterday morning. True confessions time. It's 12:48 and I'm sitting here with another load of laundry in the washer, kitty on my lap, my French exchange student and my son all here working on our laptops listening to Christmas Carols. I don't want to go to sleep, feel there is too much to do. I've lost 14 pounds on the liquid diet over the last 2 weeks. Gosh, my day is finally here. Can't wait to be on the losers bench, less than 12 hours away. Best of health to my fellow 12/9 folks, and I'll post as soon as I'm able to after the surgery. Group hug!
  21. 1day1life for now, I'm a fed with BC/BS standard option. I had to follow a 90 day pre surgical program before they would approve. I had monthly nutritionist appointments, nurse visits, 4 weeks of group meetings, stress test, blood work, psych eval, and pulmonology visit. Good luck, the surgeon's office handled everything. If you have the 2014 plan brochure it lists the bariatric surgery requirements in there.
  22. I have to weigh and measure everything because my portions grow if I don't. I've tried to really focus on eating mindfully, being aware of every bite, chewing thoroughly, and just focusing on what I eat. It's really hard, but I'm trying to change a lifetime of habits. My nut said there are lapses and relapses. For a lapse (like what you explained), you jump right back in and keep trying. For a relapse, you just give up. Have you thought about doing the Protein shake in place of a meal?
  23. I go on Monday, 3 days from now I'll be sleeved. My biggest fear is that my surgeon will open me up and go, NaaaaaaaaHHHH, her liver is too big, her stomach is a mess from the band, and her colon is too messed up from the resection. Never mind, go home. That's what's causing my abject terror.

    The Uncomfortable Truth....

I'm just jumping on the bandwagon in this post, hadn't seen it before now. It's real. I've had a lifetime of obesity, and at age 57 blame no one but myself and my genes!. I have never lost all the weight (unless you are counting the 30 carbs a day diet when I was in my early 20s) I have seen numerous therapists and never really gotten to the root of what makes me eat.. I know I eat when I'm bored, I eat in the car, I eat too quickly, too much, and too many fats and useless carbs. Bottom line is that I'm f*cked up about food, and you really can't avoid it. Foods on tv, the radio, the paper, the internet, magazines. You go into just about any store and there is junk food everywhere. We had a Japanese exchange student a few years ago who was amazed that every aisle of the grocery store is full of sweets. It's true, they are everywhere, you can't avoid them. The sleeve is one more tool I'll put in my arsenal to try to get to a healthy weight. I'm like obesity's poster child, if you can have a health condition due to being fat, I probably have it. I lost 60 pounds with a band, and kept it off, but the band slipped and I had to have it removed. I saw my health conditions improve with that loss. I am trying to work on mindfulness, really focusing on the moment on all areas of my life, not just eating. Am I going to be thrilled with every pound I lose? Yes. But that is not going to solve my other issues. Bottom line, I can drop dead after being a miserable invalid due to obesity related causes, or I can work to be healthier. Could I lose weight and get hit by a truck? Sure, there are no guarantees in life. Sorry for the ramble, but I did want to share my story, and to add that each and everyone of you have helped me by sharing yours. The sleeve isn't the winning lottery ticket or the magic obesity cure. It takes a lot of work to succeed. I'm on day 11 of my liquid diet, and can't wait for my surgery on Monday.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

Awesome idea. I'll send you a PM so you can add me. Actually, I can't figure out how to PM, so I'll just post it here. I hope to lose 100 pounds. Anyone know how to adjust the tickers? I got weighed today at the nut and lost 13 pounds.
