What a fantastic story of perseverance! God Bless! -
Oh it was so good! Take your time with it, and don't rush to finish it! Even as good as I've been doing, it still became difficult at the end!

question about food
nikkijane replied to cindymaried's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still on liquids. (Only on day 6, still learning) I can't wait to try a protein bar! Btw, I want to be clear (er) several rtd's, and powders were recommended to me by my dr, including some from Sams, WM, and Costco...I think a protein bar on the way to work will be a great idea for me as well, and will hopefully replace my urge to drive through McDonald's and get a coke! -
question about food
nikkijane replied to cindymaried's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon and LDN told me to shoot for 60-70 gms/day. So I keep a total. And I get that the one I use is 23 gms (not 20) with some varieties (such as the double stuffed cookie) being as high as 8 gms per one-fourth scoop. Plus this is full of all of the essential amino acids that our bodies need to fuel themselves. (That's where I would be careful-you could get one at Wal-Mart that meets the Protein requirements your team has set, and not realize that it may not have the quality control another product does or have all the nutrients. And I certainly am a wal mart girl myself. I mean...picking one up that has not been recommended, suggested, or approved by your Drs office, just bc the protein numbers look the same. Can you open this link? See I just don't get where it's 20...and add it to almond milk adds another gm of protein...so 3 of these a day meets my protein requirement. I'm only on my fourth day of full liquids and I just ordered another tub of this. I should have it by today. (Different flavor that is) and I also ordered a tub of the Isopure unflavored to add into Soups etc. so for me it was best to start out w one and make sure I could tolerate it, like it, etc before I bought others. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0016685ZE/ref=mw_dp_img_2?in=2&is= Hmmm link may not wk...maybe you can copy it...anyhoo...interesting talk! -

Oh, I am so getting hiccups! (Sleeved 7.31.13) I get them most often, in sets of of one or two, and they are giant and uncomfortable! But once or twice I had repetitive long lasting hiccups! I felt like walking around and breathing in through my nose out through my mouth helped somewhat.

Dr. Nicholson cash pay patients- question for you
nikkijane replied to butterfly984's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I used a different surgeon in the same area and I, too, am self pay. From the time I made my first phone call, had my consult, some labs, a scope, a stress test, an EKG, and then had my sleeve-I think barely four weeks had passed. I'm quite sure it's because there was no insurance involved! -
I have told very few of my family and friends. My husband and my mom are hugely supportive. My sister, fairly supportive, my cousin and my aunt, kind of mixed...ranging from making sure we knew about their friend who had had weight loss surgery who had had a terrible time and looked AWFUL, (I personally think she looks great) to them calling to check on me post surgery. Friend-wise...the few I have told...either are very supportive or fun ruiners, and say stuff like...isn't that dangerous? I was talking about this with my doctor because I was really struggling w my decision not to tell people certain people I work with, especially. He gave me the BEST answer. He said, people see this as an elective procedure. And to us, it is NOT an elective procedure. He had also told me that the procedure itself is rather benign. Especially compared with other wl procedures. Even compared with other abdominal procedures. It has the same risk as any other surgery, of course...but our relatives, especially, flip out, thinking we are removing our guts "just for fun." I am 40. But I went on my first diet at age 10. In fact, when I was 24, I would have qualified for a sleeve had I known anything about it, but that was the year of phen-fen. Anyone remember that? Oh yeah! I am barely 5' tall, and I weighed 204 pounds (at the time) I did lose about 50 lbs, kept it off for almost 10 years...with every fad diet under the sun...but phen-fen harmed a lot of people. So yes, I would have done this years ago, I I could have done things differently. Good luck, Scared!

Can I come out and play, too, girls??? I live in McKinney!!! I got my sleeve 7.31.13.

Hmmm...I was overweight when I found out I had celiac, tho not as overweight as I am now, and strangely, severely malnourished, because my hair was falling out by the fist full, I was bruising easily, was crazy tired. I had no traceable Iron level...then for two years, I ate, REALLY well! No processed foods at all, and no wheat. I lost weight and didn't abuse my body. But then I began to...IDK...if backslide is the right word or not, but I literally began to see that so much junk food was gluten free, so I'd have a coke here or grab a tostada there... When I say I haven't been taking care of myself, it's bc my beloved and I have literally been trying to keep another human alive. our little son who will be 7 this month suffers from several chronic illnesses. One of which gives us the pleasure of living in hospitals and ER's... Another issue he has, unBELIEVABLY, is food aversions! He spent one year, 3 x a week in intensive food therapy, at four years old, one was even group therapy, believe it or not, re-learning how to eat! So our entire night time meal time for four years has revolved around teaching him to eat a decent plate of food...and then I would gobble down some junk at 9:00pm after I had scraped together some highly specific food for his lunch the next day, mixed up all his supplements, etc...my life was far too out of balance...and my little boy is finally healthy enough where I feel like I can do something for me. I have a long history with my weight...I didn't mean to imply otherwise either...I went on my first diet at age 10, and visit a wls for the first time 6 years ago, though I didn't quite meet the requirements. Many, many people think "gluten free" means good for you...but that was kind of my point...a person should be eating more whole foods, with fewer junk or processed ingredients... Btw, I'm pretty new...I didn't mean to jump on to anyone's thread or post! This is ALLLL very interesting and helpful to me!

I have celiac disease. I cannot eat anything containing wheat barley or rye. When I was first dx'ed, because I only had a very basic understanding (which in retrospect served me far better) of what foods were gluten free, I only ate things like grilled chicken, or other meats, steamed vegetables, nuts, occasional rice and Beans, etc...I lost 40 pounds in what seemed like a flash...and kept it off, too. And then I slowly began to figure out that, Cheetos are gluten free, Cokes are gluten free, a hamburger is gluten free if you leave the bun off, even! And BAM! The pounds found their way back to me, the pound plus some, plus plus plus, I should say. My life has been way out of balance for years...and I have not made time to take care of my self... I know that most people who stop eating wheat for health reasons consider it highly inflammatory. It can cause gut inflammation, joint inflammation, headaches, and more...my son eats gf/cf because we find that it improves his health issues and his autism symptoms. Now all that being said I very rarely eat bread replacements...(even before sleeve, especially, I might say, since I am still on full liquids) but my son does. But I have found myself staring at the paleo breads, unable to purchase due to the large price vs. the small size. If you try it, or find one that is especially good, I would like to know!!!

How are you doing? I had my sleeve on the 31st, and I am planning on going back to work on the 7th. My dr said I should be able to since I just have a desk job and if every thing goes ok! I really think ill be okay!
