  1. That is such a great idea and is really a true definition of the word 'balance'. I need some balance in my life with food. That doesnt mean I'll never go through periods of low carb or slide back into drinking liquids for a few days as needed but I'm just sick of diet after diet after diet before the sleeve. I crave balance now.
  2. Thank you for bringin this up! Everyone seems to be low carb cray cray on these boards. I know you need to watch your carb intake and all but I 100% agree with you. A 1/4 cup of ziti IS moderation. It's not like you're eating ziti everyday and even if you did at a 1/4 of a cup, you're definatly not taking in more calories than you're putting out. I am personally getting this proceedure as a tool to keep me from binging. Trust me, if I could eat just 1/4 of a cup of baked ziti I woudnt need the sleeve to begin with.

What A Difference 6 Days Can Make

Love this post. I am very much like you in the sense that I am trying to imagine/figure out how the days after the surgery are going to be. This is the best account I've had so far. Thank you.

    Quitting smoking

Yup, I had to quit deit coke last year because I found I am sensetive/allergic to aspertame and I quit smoking (a pack a day) this year at the end of January. The losing weight part? lol not so much. I am getting sleeved on Sept 10th though. Good luck, it can be done.
  7. What does your preop diet consist of?
  8. I am Sept 10th in Atlanta. My Surgeon is Dr. Scott Steinberg. Anyone else on Sept 10th?

    Day 4 of what?
  10. You'll be fine. All they do is remove the band and do a normal sleeve gastrectomy. Feel confident that this time your life is going to change in amazing ways. You've come so far, congradulations on where you're at and where you're going. Alan

    All done my upper GI!

I did my upper GI last Friday. The barium was nasty but it was really cool seeing the pictures inside of my body. I am not looking forward to doing the Upper GI after the surgery though.
  12. Congrats! I am post op. Only 25 days left. I am a little nervous about the pain after the surgery but I know I will be okay. Thank you for your confidence building post.
  13. I've been feeling the same way on and off recently. I have told some people but at the same time I find the need to defend myself (which thankfully I havent had to do much) but I did have one friend who said I was "doing it the easy way" and I really resented that because some people just think I decided to get this, walked into my doctors office, jumped on the table and said "okay lets do this" and I walked out 135 pounds less an hour later. Personally I think its jealousy. It's respectable to be a little guarded. Our culture perceives this as a weakness and its not. It took me a while to realize that needing this help and asking for it was a sign of strength, not weakness and I think this kind of puts a Type A woman in an oddly vunerable position. But that's not your burden to bear, it's theirs. This is your life, live it on your terms.
  14. HAHAHAHAHA "never trust a fart" really has me cracking up over here!
  15. Hey everyone.... my surgery date is Sept 10th. I am starting to get a little nervous but it's been a pretty great journey so far.
  16. I get heartburn all the time, constantly, daily and my Dr had no issue whatsoever with giving me the sleeve. In fact he told he he recommended it. Sounds to me like your surgeon isnt comfortable with sleeving folks and you have every right to be weary. You absolutly should get a second opinion.
  17. Our surgery date is the same I am only taking 3 weeks off work but I work in an office where I sit most of my day. You should be okay, my surgeon told us in the initial consultation that he has had patients get the surgery on a Thursday and they were back to work the following Monday.
  18. I do not have my surgery yet but I find that I need to place my glass out of reaching distance. So when I do reach for it to take a drink it is a very concious effort.
  19. Thank you, that page is very helpful. I have some friends who have had the surgery for a while and will benefit from this information.
  20. I'm not sleeved yet but will be within the month. I just found out yesterday about slider foods but I don't quite know what they are and why I should watch out for them. Can someone who knows give the run down please? Thank you Alan

    Enough Already with the Psycho-Babble

I found my psych eval to be quite pleasant. Exept for the LOOOOOOONG test they made me do. But sitting down and chatting with the therapist was not bad for me at all. In fact, I enjoyed it. It was just that fill in the blank test that takes HOURS to finish that I was bored of. But, its one of those things to gague if you can follow directions properly and that you're not going to blow a gasket when the weight starts to come off. I think the whole thing was necissary. Plus it was nice to read my psych eval when she was done with it. lol
  22. So basically it's just junk foods? Oh okay, I really wasnt planning on eating those kinds of foods that much any ways. One more question, what is 5DPT?

    Smoking !

Maybe (like me) look into safer delivery systems like a vape (for cigs AND green) . They're expensive but also cut out the crap from the combustion. Though I suggest you quit smoking cigs altogether. I find that when people vape their nicotine they just replace one addiction with another. I don't care how much more "healthy" it is. It's all about making healty choices.

    Smoking !

I quit smoking a year ago but still smoke marijuana. I'll stop for about a week before surgery and about 3-4 after but I don't think I'll be quitting either.
  25. This is pretty sweet. After the Seminar (in which I was the only guy), first consult with the surgeon, getting my PCP approval, Psychological eval, Pulmonologist eval and Nutrition course and sweating it out for about a week and 3 days I got the phone call this morning that I was approved for surgery. Stuff just got real. I go in for my upper GI on August 9th and I should have a surgery date shortly afterwards. I kind of enjoyed this process, even if it was a bit laboring. Boy they make you jump through some hoops but I think others have it much worse and I consider myself very lucky to not have to appeal an insurance decision. What are your stories about this point in your process?
