September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!! -
OH NO!!!! I have the same likes and this is bad news! Cottage cheese is now styrofoam - grapes are nahh - not tomatoes? My only hope is that my chocolate premier protein drinks are still OK. I don't dare ask about oatmeal or eggs and bananas. As for Ice Cream, I already wrote that one off my preferred list months ago. However; I totally agree with your saying that " I eat to live, and I am not living to eat!" Same here! Have a fantastic week and please post any new favorites that come along....

Congratulations, now keep up on your protein and 64oz. of water..

September 2013 Sleevers :)
BayshoreBuddy replied to CantHateYourselfThin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow marks 1-week post-op! So far so good, I had a textbook operation without complications, what little pain was easily managed, limited swelling, and hardly any "gas". I have strictly adhered to my post-op clear liquid diet and have my 1-week followup with Dr. Reich tomorrow. I continue to lose weight slowly and under Dr. orders stopped my diabetes medicines in light of normal blood sugars (testing twice daily). For fellow posters who are post-op, Congratulations, and those pre-op, follow your DR's orders, diets, prepare for post op, and be confident in your decision and goals. God Bless had have a great week. -

I'm back, my surgery on Tuesday went very well according to Dr. Reich. 2-weeks on the pre-op diet reduced my liver's size making the operation a "breeze". Woke up in recovery without a foley and was admitted to recovery by 5 o'clock. Needless to say I was still groggy from the anesthesia and NPO. My friendly morphine drip took over pain management as the anesthesia wore off. Wednesday morning I passed my barium swallow x-ray leak test and was granted liquids. Parched, I attacked the "broth" like a man lost in the desert - drinking too much too soon and paying the pain price. Having learned my lesson, I slowed down on the liquids to 3 oz/hr. My morphine drip was still there to take the EDGE off my pain and lull me to sleep. I also has a fast flowing saline IV pumping me full to avoid dehydration. Thursday morning came bright and early. My friendly morphine drip and IV went back to storage and I prepared for discharge. My doctor's team briefed me on post-op meds for indigestion, nausea, and my old meds. I was ready to take my new stomach home and begin my re-training. Eventually I was able to get to sleep, using a small pillow to support my abdomen. This morning I awoke with limited gas (CO2) pains and began day-1 of my clear liquid diet despite the growling from down below. I have started doing my walking laps to take care of the associated uncomfortable digestion that feels like my stomach is churning. No regrets and have misplaced 2-3 pounds - likely the 80% of my stomach that was removed on Tuesday. All in all, I have no regrets, so far, in taking the leap to have a sleeve. Note: My Doctor told me that my pre-op dieting was directly responsible for my operation being less complicated and likely to speed up my recovery!!! -

Today my waiting is over as I check in to the hospital at 12:45 pm and my surgery begins at 2:15 pm. I expect to be in recovery by 4:00pm and in my room soon after. I did my pre-surgury dieting and have lost weight, reviewed all the Dr's literature, know what is about to happen, and am ready for what it will take to reach my goal weight. My thanks go out to the many people who posted their victories, failures, and solutions - you all helped me get to this day. I will continue to share my thoughts and progress as I recover and work on achieving my goal weight. Thanks again and let's keep posting! -

I have completed all my evaluations, X-Ray, blood work, Nutritionist and Doctor clearance appointments, and I am 24 hours away from my VSG surgery. Two weeks of pre-op dieting have taken 16 lbs. off my goal and the prospect of my next week being all clears will be "interesting". It has taken a year to get to this point; but, I am totally committed to making successful use of my VSG tool. NPO after midnight, check-in @ 12:45 pm, and my surgery begins at 2:15 pm.. I am good to go!! -
My surgery is also 3 nights away. It took a mini stroke last year, more meds than I care to list, and years of mirror shock for me to realize that eating myself to death was not the answer. Life doesn't give us too many do-overs; but, we can make Tuesday our Do-Over, and changing our lives for the better. Being "older", I can tell you that at 35, losing weight will dramatically change the rest of your life! Focusing intently on your efforts to lose weight using you sleeve "tool" will also help your emotional recovery. Not yet having children means you can cut any remaining strings, walk away, and never ever look back. Congratulations on Tuesday being the first day of the rest of your life!

WOW, a stress test to remove stress! I love it when a plan comes together

A husband was watching TV, changing back and forth from a fishing channel to a "adult" channel. His wife comes into the room and sees he is watching the fishing channel. She suggests he watch the "adult" channel because he already knows how to fish! I hope that broke out a smile. Congratulations on losing and keeping with your program!

Congratulations! I suspect your body was waiting to catch up with previous weight losses before dropping more weight. Something like a "growth spurt" in reverse. -

This may be something you need to discuss with your prescribing physician to check on possible medication changes or dosage revisions. -

Welcome, while you are waiting for the nutritionist you may want to consider an early start on your pre-surgery diet. There are many postings on this blog and on the Internet that give the details. I started my pre-surg diet two weeks before my surgery (only needed 1-wk) and have lost 16 lbs. Diet as follows; 1. Drink 4 servings of Protein supplement each day Mix (2) servings with 8 oz. skim milk 2. Include at least 6-8 servings each, daily from the following food list; a. 1 cup V8 vegetable juice (8 fl. Oz.) b. ½ cup oatmeal, cream of wheat or farina (not presweetened) c. 3 ounces of grilled, steamed, or roasted chicken, fish, eggs (only 2 choices daily) d. 6 ounces of sugar free, fat-free, low-fat yogurt – Greek Yogurt (plain, vanilla, lemon) Dannon Light & Fit, must be smooth – no pieces / chunks e. ½ cup unsweetened applesauce f. 1 cup fat-free raw vegetables (lettuce, carrots, tomato, green peppers) g. ½ cup sugar free Jell-O 3. Diet does not meet daily requirements – take multi-Vitamin and 1500 mg Calcium sub. -

Welcome! We all were nervous in the beginning; buy, keep coming back and reading the pre-surg and post-surg posting. Listen to your Doctor and query the internet for information on bariatric surgery - sleeves, dieting and Protein supplements. The more you learn, the better you will understand going with the sleeve's advantages of banding. The more you know - the better you will feel! -
Congratulations, my turn comes on Tuesday.

Feeling stronger every day (isn't that a song?!)
BayshoreBuddy commented on smryan's blog entry in My New Life
Thanks for posting your day-4 post-op update. I plan on doing the 8oz./hr. shake routine and have Unjury chicken and WonderSlim chicken soups to balance out the shakes. I also have the Unjury unflavored to boost over the counter diet foods and supercharge sugar-free Jello. DietController software is my food/nutritional log that I use as my diet speedometer and keep track of what I am eating and managing my protein drinks. Thanks again and please keep posting updates because they help pre and post surgery bloggers. Have a great Labor Day but avoid the BBQ! -
Oh my, this is more than I really need to know.....

Yup, Tuesday is THE day. Check-in @ 12:45 p.m. OR @ 2:15 p.m. I am looking forward to waking up @ 4:00 p.m. +/- and continuing my plan to lose weight. Good Luck to 9/4s! -
Bad News! Woke up with no sleeve!
BayshoreBuddy replied to beebs13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unbelievable, how small was the hospital? It's a shame there were no attending gastroenterologists, who could have assisted your bariatric surgeon in removing the tumor (including it in the 80% removal) and completed the sleeve. Will you be billed for the non-procedure? -
Take pics! It reminds you where you started

This reminds me of that old saying; "with friends like these, who needs enemies?" Life is too short to waste on toxic people when there are so many considerate people you haven't met yet.

Beginning my week long countdown to surgery next Tuesday. Staying the course on pre-surgery diet and getting use to daily borrowing 64 oz. of water, crystal lite, Jello, etc. Met with my surgeon and reviewed the sleeve surgery and Dr. Reich's OR philosophy to deliver better outcomes. REceived my insurance approval today, all my testing is done, my heart and mind are in agreement that this is what I must do, and I am ready for next Tuesday. -

This may or may not apply; but, many years ago, by accident I cut my cheek which generated a 1.5 inch scar on the left side of my face. After the wound healed, I daily shaved the scared area every time I shaved my face. Call it aggressive dermabrasion - but after a few months the scar disappeared and was replaced by normal toned skin.
