who is a great doctor in Mexico
raven123 replied to Malaika13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dr Ariel Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center did mune last Monday. It was a wonderful experience with no pain and little discomfort. He has done 10,000 of these. It's all he does. he runs a Center of Excellence that is certified to US Standards. I think it's a plus that he has a clinic not a hospital. that means that there are no sick patients. Less chance of infection. There is a reason he is a rock star in bariactic medicine. -

At 66 and from a medical family, 3 of whom have been sleeved, I felt very confident that all would go well. It did. I'm 5 days out and home now. Very little discomfort, no issues. i don't need the support of the doctors, I have that from my family. -

Hello everyone! I took my nexus 7 with me instead of my laptop. I don't have the password to this forum on the nexus so I couldn't post while I was there. My experience was very similar to BacktoBarb's. she has described it very well. I did not feel sick after surgery. The most discomfort came from the area around the drain and that wasn't bad. I was able to drink without trouble. I was tired. The other patients and their families made the waiting at the clinic enjoyable. Everyone was sweet and fun to be around. BacktoBaeb's parents were wonderful! Everyone loved them. The third day after surgery i wore my bra to the clinic. After waiting awhile for my appointment I went into the bathroom and took it off. I haven't worn it since, even on the flight home. It put too much pressure on the top incision. I had jackets to hide in so it wasn't a problem. I had several books on the Nexus so I read when I wasn't walking and drinking. For all the hanging out with Dr Ortiz that Barb got to do i never saw him when I wasn't sedated. My consultation was with Dr Martinez who is very sweet. He has a great bedside manner. I liked him. I walked to the plane in San Diego. It was great because it was the closest possible gate. When we got to Detroit my husband ordered a wheel chair for me. I was so grateful. We had to go through the tunnel to a different terminal and it was at the far end. The wheelchair made a big difference to me. I'm really glad the surgery is over. I am delighted with my choice of doctors. -
Is their a minimum B.M.I. requirement for surgery?
raven123 replied to *Rosana*'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm 35 and going with Dr Ariel Ortiz in Mexico. There is a different mindset in other countries. The US seems to want to fix you after you have developed co-morbidities. Other countries look at preventing them. -
I'm 66 and my date is October 7. I'm nervous and excited. My sister was 69 when she was sleeved. She loves it! She just showed me some new clothes she bought for a trip she is taking to The Galapagos Islands and Manchiu Pinciu with her grandson.

I'll be in the hotel Saturday and Sunday. I hope you see you!

I don't think you have to worry. I'll be there getting mine next Monday. He folds the edges over and triple staples. They won't let you leave until you've passed a leak test. Leaks are almost nonexistent in their practice. When do you go?

so 20 days out of surgery but curious

Drink more! If that doesn't fix the problem, call your doctor. You don't want to get into trouble now. -
I wish this surgery had been available when My kids were young. At 66 I'm doing it so I can enjoy my grandchildren and just just be the grammy that sits in the big chair. My surgery is a week from today and I am excited and nervous.

I'm thinking of going for the Bypass instead
raven123 replied to Mid West's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sleeve was first used on patients who were too big or too sick to have the bypass. It was thought that after they lost some of their weight the bypass could be done. They found that most people were so successful with the sleeve that the bypass was not needed. I agree that it is your decision and your research will help you make it. I chose the sleeve because my sister and brotherinlaw both had it. They are doctors and did a great deal of research. They chose the sleeve because of the malnutrition issue with the bypass. -

Can a relationship really work out if....
raven123 replied to soonerorlater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister was sleeved a year and a half ago. Her husband saw how well she was doing and 6 months later get sleeved. Give it a little time. My date is a week from today. My husband is very supportive. He is the same size he was in high school. He has a sweet tooth. I've asked him not to bring ice cream into the house till I get into a routine. It's been my downfall in the past. He works out of town so he can have whatever he wants when he working. -
What are you doing to prepare for your surgery?
raven123 replied to McButterpants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery is a week away. I'm off coffee and Nsaids. Following the liquid diet with greens and walking. -
I think it takes a year or so for the skin to contract as far as it's going to. After that, live with it or surgery.

Today I took the vitamin with the shake instead of water before and it was much better. I'm not too hungry today. I like the idea of mixing the shake with coffee. It's getting closer. -
It's never a good idea to stop antidepressants and anxiety pills abruptly. It can really mess your mind up. I take Effexor and plan to open the capsules.

I'm working on sticking to the guidelines too. I agree about the taste of the Premier shakes. I'm using them for the high protein count. right now my worst problem is that the multivitamin I have makes me nauseous. I ordered the vitamins form OBCC. I hope they are better. -
