  1. Thanks very much for your suggestions. I have a follow-up with my surgeon next week and I'll check with her then about the protein intake. NUT is hard to get in touch with.
  2. I've had three c-sections, gallbladder removed, lapband surgery and sleeve. From a surgical pain point of view, the sleeve was wayyyy easier than the c-sections, gallbladder removal and lapband. Truly, I had virtually no surgical pain from the sleeve surgery, and they took out my lapband at the same time. From a stress perspective, the prospect of a leak (I tend to be a very anxious person) scared me so much. That, coupled with the big life change from the sleeve, made the recovery difficult. Not painful, but difficult. Keeping track of liquids, Vitamins, planning meals so carefully... it's a job the first several weeks. Good luck, you will rock it!
  3. Hi - I've had to mostly give up dairy, including whey Protein drinks like Isopure, and am struggling to get in enough protein. My nutritionist wants me to shoot for 75g of protein every day, but offers very little help with dairy-free diets that can get me there. If I shoot for 50g of protein every day, which so far seems do-able, will that be adequate?
  4. Fish, fish and more fish are my go-to options. Sashimi, broiled or baked fish (I ask for as little oil/butter as possible. I have dumping from too much fat, so I just say that the oil 'doesn't agree with me'). Haven't had a single problem finding something that works, and we've been out a bunch in the last 9 weeks! It's nice to go and feel normal.
  5. Today is two months since my surgery. I feel much, much better and am thrilled with my weight loss! I got to a good point on the new sleeved way of eating and then had to wean off dairy because of reflux. Taking the dairy out (really, taking the milk and whey Protein out, because I still have some cheese every day) made a huge difference in my reflux but required me to re-learn (again!) how to eat. Now fish and chicken and deli meat make up a big part of my daily menus. Bottom line: I don't regret the surgery at all. When you're in transition, it's hard and the combination of recovering and changing long-entrenched habits at the same time was a tall order. But I'm doing it and I'm really happy that I feel my life is more in control and I'm healthier every day!
  6. Thanks for these answers! I'm just trying to figure out how to get enough Protein in, because I'm off dairy (reflux) and can't do the Isopure or milk-based shakes. So I'm trying to figure out how to get it all in by the end of the day.
  7. I've had this happen lately too. Left side pain, under the rib. It has come and gone a few times. At first I thought it was because I was sitting funny, but one day it lasted all day. I google possible causes - gas or spleen problem came back. I took some Gas-X, although I didn't feel particularly gassy. Good luck. Keep us updated, I hope you feel better!
  8. I'm curious - how far out are you from surgery and how much lean Protein can you eat at one sitting? I'm 8 weeks today, and can eat two to three ounces of fish or chicken in one sitting, closer to two usually. Thanks!
  9. I'd fake it. Order soup or fish for your meal and push the food around your plate, lift the glass to your lips and be merry. Doubt anyone will notice. Enjoy the evening!
  10. This is so helpful! Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I appreciate all the good idea. I'll let you know how it goes.
  11. I've cut out dairy and my reflux is much, much improved. Even drinking Isopure (watered down) was making my poor esophagus incredibly sore. So it would seem that I now have a dairy intolerance. I'm nearly eight weeks out and can eat 1.5 to 2 ounces at a time of fish and chicken breast. I'm not at the point that I can do nuts yet. What are my best options for getting enough Protein every day if Protein drinks, yogurt, cheese and milk are all off the table? Would love any suggestions, thanks!

    High Protein Fish Masala Curry

Yum! I've been looking everywhere around here for paneer with no luck, so this is a wonderful alternative. And so low fat, which is crucial for me because when I have too much fat I get dumping syndrome. (FUN!) Thanks for the great recipe. xoxo

    Spasms

Glad you called and your doc was responsive. I have Levsin (hyoscyamine I think is the generic) that's an anti-spasmodic to use when that happens. Good luck, I hope you're feeling better!
  14. Thanks very much to both of you. Will check with doc too. Couldn't be a spleen problem, right? My surgery was 7.5 weeks ago; surely something would have turned up before now?
  15. Hi - I'm having pain on my left side, under my ribs. It's not excruciating, but it's not going away either. I've had twinges here and there over the past several weeks and thought nothing of it, but today it's really bothering me. I took Gas-Ex and ibuprofen a few hours ago; neither have helped. Any idea what this could be?
